Yes. The only other cost you have to factor in is the brokerage fee for delcaring it through customs. If you ship air with ups or fedex its included ... ship ground and they will charge you.

Obviously if you pick up and drive accross the border with it ... you do your own declaration and only pay the sales tax.

I'm going to get one from Cleveland Plasma and have it shipped to Champlain, NY to bordermail.us. Then, I'll just drive down, collect, pay my taxes and save around $200.

Will none of the US online retailers ship them to Canada?

Yes they will, it's all about warranty. I've called epson in the past and 1 time was told it wasn't covered and the other time was told it was. Rep people don't know any more than you and me LOL!

That's why I decided to order it in Canada. I just want to know for sure that the warranty is valid. Also, getting it shipped from the U.S. can be expensive and there can be surprise borkerage fees etc that would bring the cost close enough that risking the warranty wasn't worth it for me.

Don't understand why the projector is $300 cheaper in US over canada. No duty, dollar almost at par.

Companies set their U.S. and Canadian prices independently. There's also more competition in the U.S. since it is a bigger market, giving vendors there more incentive to offer discounts. Epson is actually one of the better projector makers for setting the Canadian prices close to the U.S. prices. For instance, a Panasonic AE4000 when it launched was $1999 in the U.S. and $2999 in Canada.

If you get a premium shipping option like UPS's Worldwide Express or Expedited, brokerage is included. It can be cheaper than paying for ground shipping plus brokerage. In any case, all can be calculated from the UPS website in advance, so there should be no unpleasant surprises.
In my case I was fed up of great US prices, but then a huge additional shipping/taxes/brokerage bill on top, when the same item would be shipped for free just 40 km away. The savings on my first purchase (an Onkyo receiver for $1200US, but $3200 in Canada) were enough to pay for my bordermail.us membership 40 times over.
I'll just drive down on Saturday and pick up two receivers and a subwoofer to bring back. In a few weeks I hope to do the same with the 8350.

Yeah, for someone who lives close to the border it may work out very well to have it shipped to a U.S. address and pick it up there. For those of us 5+ hours from the border, the gas cost of picking things up would quickly eat up whatever savings could be had.

When I bought my Epson 1080UB, a bit over two years ago from AVDeals.ca (now known as HD.ca)
Their Can$ price was the same as the best $US prices on-line at any of the AVS sponsors.

But it Gets Better....

My PJ is still going strong, never a single problem or issue at all in two years, and have yet to even use the spare lamp (still NIB)
(original bulb has over 1500 hours on it still works great in low lamp mode)

But I did call HD.ca to get a price on the new JVC HD250,
...Wow!, cheaper than the MSRP was on my 1080UB way back in Dec 07' when it was launched.

I may need to build another HT room!

Just called Epson and got an email right from the Canadian Accounts Manager of Projector Products. Here is what she said --

Thank you for your interest in Epson projectors. Our warranty would cover you if you ordered in the US, however, we have built a dealer channel in Canada to service Canadians and would prefer the business stay in Canada, however, that is your decision to make.

There are no brokerage fee's shipping to canada if you select UPS expedited. I'm unsure what Fed-ex level offers the same however UPS got sued a few years back and cleaned up their "brokerage racket".

You will get charged the sales tax for your province however. Sometimes hit and miss however, but lately it's mostly hit.

I don't blame most companies who charge more in canada and don't let the warranty transfer.... epson has to pay canadian salaries, canadian benefits and canadian everything to run their busines up here. It's bound to be a difference in cost for operating in canada...as everything is more expensive you would assume the cost to operate up here is more expensive.

It's somewhat generous for a company to allow you to pay less and receive the same service while they pay more to deliver it. Unless I'm wrong and it's cheaper and they are just gouging us... I don't really know.

I've also called Epson twice and gotten 2 different answers. One said I will need to deal with the US office for warranty issues. The other said it's a North American warranty and it shouldn't matter.

I personally ordered from Visual Apex tonight for $1199 US. Free shipping to Niagara falls NY... I'm only about 2hrs from the border. Visual Apex said they believe I will need to use the US warranty service.

I think it would come down to how hard you pushed epson, and who you got on the phone. It sounds like they are a company who would like to make their customers happy. In the end like the response from the manager above implied...it's probably not a big deal to them.

Also over the past year shipping from usps->canada post has been obscenely slow and painful. Tracking is terrible, and i've had items at the border for close to 3 weeks. I'm not sure if you can bump the service up to make that better, but I would keep in mind it might take a bit longer.

Has anyone in Canada been able to get this projector for a good price? wither from a Cdn or shipped from a US retailer?

The best price i am seeing in Canada is from electronicsforless which has an installers package for $1499 and when you back out the cost of the HDMI cable and mount, the price is about $1,300. I purchased from them before and Mason was great to deal with (and is willing to haggle) but i would love a price closer to the approx $1000 US some people are reportedly paying for the projector at HHGregg in the US!

Friendly people, good service. Worth a call.

+ I got the screen from them (Draper) so that's another 10% off and top of that, got a free ceiling mount for the PJ.

So US retailers have it on sale for $1099 but of course epson canada won't allow them to ship to Canada. Canadian retailers under the protection of Epson gouge there customers for a great deal of $1398. Wow $299 more then US, and they wonder why I will not BUY CANADIAN!

Do you live close to the border? I got mine a few weeks ago from Cleveland plasma and picked it up on the US side of the border. I paid taxes but no duty crossing back to Montreal. It took almost 3 hrs, but was worth saving $500 for the trip. (I also had other stuff to pick up from my mailbox service).

I was in Visions about 2 weeks ago and talked with a guy there and he said that they were getting them in soon and would be able to give a decent deal on one, so Im sure you could walk out with one from there.
