Any help with changing SPDIF out port to a headphone jack?

I have a TV where my only audio out option is a SPDIF Out jack. I want to be able to connect my headphones, or some other little 2 speaker with a subwoofer setup to my TV, and use that for audio, especially the headphones, so I can listen to my TV late at night without having to worry about disturbing anyone.

Problem is, I don't know how to do this, and I've tried calling up stores asking for adapters, and they say they don't know of any SPDIF to headphones( I think it's a 1/8" connection?) adapter. I just find it hard to believe that no one has invented this, so I figure the error is with me, and that I'm just not looking in the right places. I was hoping you guys could help point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

EDIT: In addition to what I was asking about above, anyone know of any good headphones that use a SPDIF connection? This would be an 'in the future' purchase, and isn't the main goal right now. For right now I just really want to find a way to connect my current headphones to that SPDIF port.

EDIT2: I suppose it might be helpful to include the model of the TV. It's a Vizio E371VA

You need a DAC (digital to analog converter) to convert the digital audio from the TV into analog and an amplifier to boost the signal to drive headphones or speakers. A box such as this would work for headphones:

A/V receivers will also have digital optical inputs and a headphone jack. With so many people upgrading to HDMI you can probably find lots of used pre-HDMI examples on Craigslist.

You might be able to find powered speakers that offer a SPDIF input and might even have a headphone jack - perhaps someone else can suggest something?

Quite a few wireless headphones offer digital audio inputs.

Here's an example of a powered speaker with optical inputs and a headphone jack:

Wow, thanks a lot. Both of those options are a little more expensive than I was trying to go. What do you think of this product:

amazon.com/Digital-Analog-Converter-USB-Headphone/dp/B0038HX3S8

It's $65 bucks, but seems like it might be what I'm looking for.

Apparently I haven't hit 3 posts yet, so I can't post a URL.

That looks promising. It's also available at Parts Express for a bit less:

Yeah that does look like a better deal. I'll have to check the difference in shipping between the two sites. Crazy how you found that better price so quickly.

This does NOT have a built-in headphone amp, but the price is low:

If your headphones are wireless, you could use that without an amp.
