Subwoofer to match monoprice in-wall speakers?

Help - I am new to the audio scene.

I am interested in purchasing monoprice in-wall speakers, but I am unsure about a passive in-wall subwoofer (not sure what passive even means other than it isn't powered?). From what I gather, I would be better off just purchasing a normal subwoofer especially since my setup does not require the subwoofer to be in-the-wall.

(1) So if I purchase the monoprice speakers, will any subwoofer match from a sound perspective?? The more detail you can provide in basic terminology would be most helpful.

I was going to do an entire Polk surround system, but felt monorpice might deliver similiar quality for lower price.

(2) Perhaps I can still just purchase the Polk PSW10 for my subwoofer and use with the monoprice in-walls?

Subs do not need to match, and I'd stay away from cheap Polk subs -- they're garbage.

The cheapest I can recommend is the BIC F12 (roughly $190).

As for speakers, the monoprice speakers can't touch the sound quality you'll get from any Polk set... sorry.

Which Polks were you considering?
