MPC-HC and DXVA

Hello,

I have a DG45ID intel board and I am trying to use MPC-HC in DXVA mode to play various mkv files. Whenever DXVA is enabled I get a weird video output, it's not all the time, it happens right after scene changes in a movie and clears up in a second or two, then reappears on the next scene change. If DXVA mode is disabled the movies play fine with no video distortion. I have done a fair amount of searching and couldn't find anything specific. DXVA works fine in TMT. Am I missing something simple or does DXVA mode not work in MPC-HC with a G45 intel board? I am running Vista X64

Thanks,

Bryan B

What's the video codec of the MKV file? VC-1? What video decoder are you using? MPC-HC's internal one?

That board uses an onboard video card which means shared ram. From what I've read about the G45 chipset if you don't dedicate at least 256mb (512mb preferred) to the video card DXVA won't work properly.

how much ram have you dedicated to the video in the bios?

H.264 is the video codec of this particular mkv in question, an MKV of ghostbusters(blu-ray). I also have ones that are WVC1, those seem not to play with DXVA at all, again with no video distortion. Trying to work out my problems one codec at a time.

I am attempting to use the internal MPC-HC video decoder.

I do have the maximum amount of ram dedicated in the BIOS.

There are a couple of H.264 video decoders supporting DXVA: CyberLink, ArcSoft, Microsoft. I recommend to try them. VC-1.

If you have Nero installed it's worth to try Nero DXVA H.264 decoder. Personally, I prefer Cyberlink HAM's picture under Win7.
