Energy Take Classic 5.1 Paired with Denon AVR-1911

Hey guys, I was planning on purchasing a Denon AVR-1911 receiver and pair it with a Energy Classic 5.1 Satellite system. The room I am putting this system in, is a 14 x 22ft family room. The sitting area is 13ft from the 12ft wall, with the rear surround speakers about 9ft from the sitting area. I have heard good things about the Energy Classic system and like the satellite form factor, but I am worried that they aren't big enough for a room that size. As far as the Denon, I want a receiver that has the new HDMI 1.4 for 3D and I like the Audessey setup. My budget is no more than $800, so any other suggestions for a system should fit into that price bracket. Looking for clear, clean sounding music, good surround sound, and decent sub power (walls do not need to shake with every explosion) Thanks for the help.

I'm anxiously awaiting some opinions on your question as well. I'm in a very similar situation (13x23 rec room, $800-ish budget) and have narrowed my receiver to the Denon AVR-1911 or the Onkyo TX-SR608, but am stuck in trying to decide between the Energy Take Classic 5.1 or piecing together something from scratch.

The receiver is fine but I'd want bigger speakers in my room than the little Take Classics.

Go to Best Buy and check out the new Pioneer speakers. The BS21 bookshelf and CS21 center will fill your room much better than the Take Classics. They are alot bigger though.

You can get two pair of BS21 for $90/pr

Center is $80

Pioneer subwoofer $140.

So for under $400 you'd get a nice 5.1 system that would blow the Energy away.

I prefer the Denon 1911 over the Onkyo 608 but that's just me.

Thank you for your input and suggestion, how much will those pioneer speakers fill the room with sound? I take it more than the Energy's, but how much more? Thanks.

Alot more.

I'm not sure how to quantify it for you. Have you actually heard the Take Classics or any small satellite speaker? The satellites only go down to about 120hz. That means you get no bass from them, your subwoofer would have to do all the work for the low frequencies. If you plan to play any music on your system definitely go for the bigger Pioneer speakers.

I own original Take 5 speakers and while they are good satellite speakers they just dont compare to a good bookshelf speaker.

Go to best buy and check out the Pioneers and see if the size and sound is satisfactory to you.

Thank you for your reply, I will go to bestbuyand try them out. I was thinking for the center, left and right speakers the bookshelves would be fine. But for the surround, I would then have to buy 2 stands for each speaker. Would it be better to buy 2 towers for the surround, or would that be a waste?

If you buy bookshelf for the fronts - then don't buy towers for
the rear. More info comes out of the front. Buy cheap stands
for the rear.

Would Bookshelf speakers be the best option, or should I go for tower speakers for a room my size? Also, my entertainment center has the center speaker compartment high toward the top the entertainment center, is this going to effect the sound I can hear versus one that is sitting level or that is below sitting level?

I thought you were on a budget which is why I didn't recommend the towers? If you have the money get towers up front, the center and then BS21 bookshelf speakers for surrounds. You can use something like the Sanus 24 inch stands for your surrounds. They're only $30/pr.

How high is your entertainment center shelf? Make sure that Pioneer center will fit in there too. You should be able to aim it down towards the listener a little.

I measured the entertainment center drawer and the center speaker will fit in it. The center cabinet drawer on my home theater system is 6ft high. so i'd say a good 3 1/2 - 4ft above a person sitting on the couch. I have about 400 to spend on the speakers.....The Denon AVR-1911 is about 378.00 shipped......I like the idea of towers up front, bookshelfs in the back

Where did you find the Denon for that cheap? That's a really good price.

FYI, Central Digital is not an authorized Denon dealer (no warranty) thus the low price. Dakmart is an authorized dealer and they have the 1911 for a lower price. Granted, it is a refurbished unit but it does have the warranty. With shipping, I would imagine the price is comparable to what you're getting from Central Digital.

Just thought you might like to know.

You can get that 1911 for under $400 shipped from World Wide Stereo which is an authorized dealer. Use COLUMBUS in the promo code field.
