Panasonic TC-P50G25 Vs. TC-P50S2

I was wondering why the TC-P50G25 is around $200 more than the TC-P50S2 but has no built in tuner? Will the picture quality be the same for both?
No the G20 is a nicer picture it is generally agreed. It has the Vierra Cast internet stuff (useless to me) but it also has a THX viewing mode that makes it close to a calibrated set OOTB (relatively speaking). It was worth the extra for the THX mode alone to me.

I have the G20 which is essentially the same as the G25 & it is a pretty nice set for the most part.

Yes! At 49, I still play my 360. Halo and Gears of was rule. Do you think I'll notice a difference over my 2006 TH-42PX60U 720P?

All Panasonic TVs have a built-in tuner. The G25 has the same built-in tuner that that S2 has. What makes you think the G25 has no tuner?

The picture quality on the G25 is much better than on the S2 (already discussed in several other threads). The G25 is better than the S2 on many levels and is definitely worth the extra $200.

The G25 is a huge improvement over a PX60U. My G10 is much better than my PX50U, and the PX50U is better than the PX60U and the G25 is better than the G10.

You're px50U is better than your 60u?

I think my PX600u stands up VERY well to my S1 and G25 to be honest, its black level performance isn't far off from my risen S1, plus much better color accuracy

That $200 buys you a much better anti-reflective filter and THX mode. I think it is worth it.

Your going to notice a huge difference when it comes to black levels, color saturation, and the depth of field will look more realistic on the new sets. When feeding the S2 or G25 a 1080p image, the difference will be very obvious, when using a high quality source Like a blu-ray. Cable HD channels? Maybe not. Video games? Definitely.

However, I still have my 60u and I agree, the colors looks much more accurate then any newer S1,S2,G10,G25 I've played around with. Most have said the decoder and color temps are similar, but something is different, you will see. The new sets appear greener in color temp to me, and decoding looks different then my old set. No one has ever been able to explain why! I have a 60u, 80u and S1, and setup an S2, G10.

You will love an S2 or a G25 though. I would spend the extra $200 and get the G.

the G25 is the better tv it has better PQ and it has usbs and stuff like like
the S2 dont have that stuff. i allmost got the G25 but iam holding out for 3d
if there was no 3d iwould have gotten the G25

You are right on the 5OU being better that hte 6OU. The TH-42PX50U was my first Plasma back in 2005. $2500! I had a few dead pixels and was brought to the shop to be fixed. It ended falling over in the van and they replaced it with the 6OU. The picture wasn't as good.

Now that you guys have me pointing toward the TC-P50G25, I have read some negative reviews on it's ability to handle 1080P 24 feeds. I have Direct TV and they use this a lot with VOD. I wonder if this will be fixed in the 2011 models

Talks about the 1080P 24 problem in the last paragraph.

Right now I can get an S2 for $400 less than a G25. Is the G series worth an extra $400?

Not really. Nothing is worth that kind of jump imo considering the S2 is very good from the start. Maybe wait for the G25 to get cheaper?

I bought a 50" G20 on Sunday for $1099. Got it home, played with the picture for a few hours, watched some football, and then found myself listening to the TV and looking at the internet on my cell phone.

I traded it out yesterday for a 50" S2 for $799. Best Buy price matched Conns.

I'm totally TOTALLY happy with the S2 at this point. Especially for the damn price. That G20 had some fancy features but $300 less on the S2 and the picture, in my opinion, is just as good.

My wife was pretty hot when I returned the G20 because she didn't see how a cheaper TV could have a picture that was comparable. She got up and watched the news this morning and woke me up to tell me I was right.

My room can be well lit or dark and I haven't seen a problem. I came from a 3 year old 42" Vizio LCD. No complaints from me yet.

Make the decision for yourself. If I listened to everyone here I'd still feel guilty for spending over $1K on the TV and listening to the G2. LOL! Listening to...

There you go. I suggest get the S2 unless you really want internet on your tv. Btw I'm happy with my tc-42px24 (C2 with AR filter). Panasonic doesn't have a bad plasma out now.
I think I'm sold on the S2 as well. I simply cannot beat the price my local electronics store is selling the TC-P50S2 right now. They are selling the 50" S2 for the same price Best Buy is currently selling the 42" S2. It will actually be $450 less than a 50" G20 I was considering. I don't need the internet connection and I can live with slightly brighter blacks.
How much are they selling it for?

I might be crazy but the black on this TV is BLACK. It OS very dark if you want it to be.

Hell try it out, you have thirty days to decide if you should upgrade or not.

Fry's is selling the 50" S2 for $649. In store only.

A few weeks ago the TC-P50G25 was actually 9XX dollars shipped.

If you're looking for the better PQ paying around 1050/1200 for the G25 is the way to go. If you're kind of strapped for cash and want still a good PQ and stay in the Panny family go with the S2.

Or you can go with C2. A supposed weaker tv but it looks great to me.

As bad as my eyes are I can only see terrible picture quality if its just there and lets me know its there. I've seen the picture of the C/U2 to be a bit fuzzy. But then again that was at a big box store with the contrast cranked to 100 playing split single of content you really don't care about.

The store settings are pretty poor most of the time. It might be done deliberately to try to sell their more expensive tv's. But I might eventually go to S2. Just didn't want to pay the extra $150. But Cinema Mode is much better than the Standard Mode. Also turn down the contrast and brightness to 50-60.

If you are considering downgrading from the G25 to the S2, maybe you should go for an LG or Samsung instead?

If your not totally impressed with Panasonics high end model like the G25 - I just think you should look into getting an Lgpk550 or Samsung plasma.

Just my 2 cents.

24fps playback was one of my main considerations when purchasing a plasma. I went with the G25 with full assurances from the retailer that if I was dissatisfied with the floating blacks or the 24fps, I could return it.

I haven't returned it. 24fps at 48hz is perfectly watchable in THX mode with brightness below 60. Occasionally I see the flicker in really bright, white scenes, such as anything polar on Planet Earth, but otherwise my eyes adjust and disregard the flicker quickly. That said, I also see some flicker/strobe effect under the same conditions at 60hz, so much of it comes down to your eyes. I almost suspect reviewers like Katzmeier at CNET froth and squirm and clutch at the armrests whenever he's in a theater if the 48hz flicker bothers him that much.

The 48hz 24fps playback is totally worth it if you appreciate enhanced depth-of-field in a scene, not to mention lack of interpolated judder. If you must have ultra-smooth no-flicker playback, you'll have to either 1) get a VT25, or 2) get to cracking the the panasonic software. I'm sure the refresh rate is software based, and given that somewhere the Panasonic software has a linux kernel tucked away, it's entirely possible that with patience and a few bricked $1g tvs, we could all have open source firmware for our tvs.

Hey guys...that $649 at Fry's is the real deal. Best Buy price matched today.

Aren't they the same, picture quality aside? They have the same input lag (1-2 frames) and display full motion 1080p.

On paper, G25 has better blacks and contrast ratio. But some can't see the difference.
It also has a lower input lag for gamers.
