Official Sony Internet TV (NSX-DDGT1) Thread

These TVs were just officially announced yesterday but should be on store shelves by the weekend. I've been in the market for an LED LCD for a while and I'm seriously considering one of these new sets.

My main concern is the quality of the panel. They are competitively priced which leads me to believe these aren't Sony's high end panels. Does anyone know what panel they are using, or which panel it is comparable to (e.g., the EX700, etc)?

You can find more information and specifications here:

It's 60hz. Based off the ex600 probably. I was ready to buy it till I found out it's 60hz....what a failure.

What makes you think it is 60Hz? It doesn't say as much on the specifications page. Where have you heard this?

You don't think it's odd they don't list motionflow on the features page?

I did think it was strange, but I didn't want to assume anything (also, I was hoping).

In the link you posted it seems my hopes have been squashed:

The three larger screens feature edge-lit LED backlighting but they only have 60Hz refresh rates.

After shopping around for months for a new bedroom TV, I bought the 32" Sony Google TV yesterday. I have been impressed so far (although this is my first non-CRT ever). Build quality of TV and stand seems sturdy. Controller is intimidating at first but my wife and I have figured out most of it. The controller is not nearly as big/heavy as I thought it would be, feels good in the hand(s).

One problem I have, the instruction manual and support website are not very informative. The TV has a lot of extra functionality that I cannot find help for (like syncing an iPhone to use as remote control). Although I am chalking this up to it being a new TV, early adopters. I am hoping this owners thread grows so we can share info!

A certain website did a review of this tv, and i didn't like what I read. The website says it has poor viewing angles, poor sound, and highly reflective screen. Can someone comment on that?

For this TV , I don't think PQ is Sony's main concern...

That's prob why you can buy the Blu-ray player with Google built in. If you do not want to replace your existing TV you can buy the Blu-ray. Or as some of the posters above said that 60Hz is a failure....thats prob why they are offering a Blu-ray player, not just the TV.

I haven't been able to find an in-depth review on the TV, could you PM me a link?

I did notice the poor viewing angles but since we have the TV mounted directly infront of the bed that won't be an issue for us. My wife and I were actually impressed by the sound quality but like I said, this is the first real TV we've ever had. And yes, the screen is highly reflective.

A side note, we enabled Rovi TV guide which installed itself overnight. However, we still don't receive programming/channel data...

I am not trying to spam, but I recently did a little hands-on review with the Sony Internet TV (NSX-24GT1, NSX-32GT1, NSX-40GT1, NSX-46GT1), which I think you may find interesting:

Thanks for the reply! I actually did read your review. To be honest though, with a website named Sony Insider, I thought the review was probably biased.

I still CANNOT get Rovi TV Guide to work. After calling Sony a few times, I was finally connected with a product "specialist." She, almost laughingly, claimed that Rovi TV Guide did not work because it was a subscription based service that I would have to pay for... So I called my cable company, Knology. They had never even heard of Rovi and are researching it now. Although, on Rovi's website, Knology is listed as a provider of Rovi TV guide for my zipcode. Next I decided to call Rovi. The lady I spoke to assured me that I did NOT have to pay for Rovi, that it was free to the consumer. She is also researching my issue...

Does anyone know if this TV is wall mountable?

I'm thinking of using it as a TV in the bathroom while taking a bath in a tub. Would be cool to watch regular TV or use the internet. It has a pretty nice look. Don't mind the refresh rate for my viewing purposes.

Good overview of the TV. You did mention that the remote was IR. Actually, it is an RF remote. That is why it must be paired with the TV. A regular IR remote will perform basic funcitons on the TV but you will need the RF remote (included) to surf the web.

RF is the better one right? Does not require line of sight?

Does anyone have in information on any upcoming Black Friday discounts?
It is probably too early for a discount, but I would like to know if it is worth waiting or purchasing now.

The SONY GOOGLE remote might be RF, but if any of your devices you want to control don't have Control For HDMI (whatever that is) like my samsung smt-hd3270 that must get controlled from sony's ir blaster hooked to google tv talking to ir blaster on dvr. damn you DISH. I want TV in Bedroom and everything else, except an older blu-ray player, across wall with main 50-inch TV.

any ideas? drill hole thru wall and point sony blaster 15ft across other room?

sorry about DISH, but they seem to have everything worked out and i can only access cable.

Hi all, just signed up on the forum after buying the 32" inch model NSX-32GT1. I'm having a beast of a time adjusting the display settings to where I am happy. This is my first LCD television, and the factory settings are awful. I turn on a baseball game, and I feel like the park is enveloped in fog.

I've been reading through the forum, and found this "quick and dirty TV setup".

http://www.lyris-lite.net/quick_and_dirty_tv_setup.html

I'm going to work with this, and see if I can improve the custom setting some on my own. I fully realize that every room is different, so there is no "best setting". I'm just looking for an improved baseline. So if anybody might share their picture settings, I'd appreciate it!

Thank you in advance for any assistance! I don't need perfection, but I would like it to look better than it does now.

William,
Were you by any chance watching a SF Giants night game? Gets foggy some times.

The instructions you got are really good. Do your best and follow them and then tweak them to comfort to your vexing environment.
I've tweaked the settings following the instructions I alluded to. But it still seems like it could be better.

Nobody on the forum has one of these TV's that could share their picture settings???

Sorry to bump this thread.

Has anyone used this TV as a computer monitor? A 32 Inch LED, with a panel that is probably something better than a TN for $500 seems like it'd be great. 60 Hz is fine for a computer monitor as well.

Anyone using it as a monitor, what are your impressions?

Any reason not to use this as a monitor?

So, based on this thread, not many people have bought many of these NSX series TVs?

Are they that bad? There seemed to be quite a mix of reviews on Amazon, and the thread on the NSZ or whatever stand alone BluRay player on AVS, doesn't seem too favorable either (although I admittedly scanned it very briefly).

I was considering reducing some of my comcast cable services and getting netflix streaming and/or dvds. I thought these TVs might be perfect for the bedroom.

Anyone have any updates on their experiences. Have there been any additional firmwares that have made picture quality or processing better?

Bottom line I'm trying to find a smaller sized LCD that I can stream wirelessly to (32 - 40" or so max). There doesn't seem to be many options in the smaller sizes with this feature. Anyone have any other suggestions?
