Netflix On PS3 goes disc-free...(Gets 1080p streaming and DD+ 5.1 surround sound) - Page 38

I did the like the old interface better but it has been 15 months since I lost it and they tweaked this interface so much it does not bother me as much anymore. I like the kids section because I can just browse stuff without any R and MA rated crap showing up that does not interest me. Some of those family movies are good though.

Anyone notice the (I think) new screen that comes up when show hit the credits? It's like the Xbox client now where it allows one click to play the next episode. I like that a lot. Can't seem to bring it up any other time though, to view the plot and stuff like other Netflix clients offer.

Not exactly sure what screen you're talking about. Everytime I watch a show, I hit stop at the end (when the credits START to roll), and it takes me back with to the screen where I can play the next episode with one click. Just like the screenshot below: in this example, I would have been watching Episode 5, got to the credits (or near the end) then hit stop on my remote, and this would show to play the next episode (episode 6). Been like that for as long as I can remember.

It would be nice if they synopsis on the right gave an overview of that episode's plot, rather than the overview of the entire series like it does. But going down once to "More Episodes" and pressing "OK" will send you there with the current episode selected.

Got that for the first time last night watching "Rubber" (which unfortunately has audio sync issues, arrrgh). I actually am not at a fan of this client change as it functionally cuts off part of the credits by making them too small to read. For TV shows that is less of an issue but for films that sucks, credits are often interesting or may contain clips and such.

I sure wish Netflix would stop degrading the client and instead spend some beefing up their quality control. I have encountered far too many films with messed up aspect ratios or sync problems for a company with their monetization.

Cheers

Half of Doctor Who Season 6 is HD w/5.1 and subtitles and the other half is only stereo and no subtitles. The quality control is definitely annoying and I've complained about it to them.

Ok, apparently this is different than what I posted above. Have not seen that, but I haven't streamed anything for 2 days. Will check it out though, but based on your description, sounds like i'm going to hate it (sounds like what Network TV does to the end of movies....squishes the credits into a small unreadable space)

How do you know this is the fault of Netflix? The studio could have given them half the season in 5.1 and the other half in stereo. Since Netflix can only encode what they are given by the studios. It would not be the first time a studio has done this.

Things like this happen with VUDU as well. Often they will contact the studio to see if they can get a different encode, but if the studio doesn't give them a different encode then they have to use what they are given.

I am not sure how that changes anything, it is still Netflix's problem. It is not like they advertise "watch all the movies with incorrect aspect ratio and out of sync audio you want!"

If you pay someone for content and they give you improperly encoded garbage then you demand a replacement or your money back. What you do not do is just pass on garbage to the customer pretending nothing is amiss. . .that is like a grocery store peeling the best before dates off of products so they can sell them after expiry.

Cheers

Several Facebook posters have reported this since the week began. When a tv show ends, the credits are reduced to a box-a la network tv, and promos for other stuff runs as well as the play next feature.
I'm really not looking forward to further credit smushing. Sometimes, you'll see an actor in something, but can't place their name.

I haven't seen any 5.1 streaming since the last update no matter what the show. Can someone confirm that it is working for them? I have checked all my settings, everything is right.

Hi TornadoTJ, no issue here. What Netflix software version are you running?
Whatever that latest version is that installed recently. Is there a way to tell for sure?

Go to "More episodes" and find the episode name/number.

Frankly I find it kind of annoying. I'd rather not know what the episode is about before I watch it. This kind of thing is useful outside netflix where I can't remember whether I've watched an ep or not, but Netflix's auto-advance feature makes it pointless.

I have version 2.06 and didn't update to the new version 2.07.

To check what version you have just highlight the Netflix app in the XMB, then press triangle and click information.

It could be worse...it could be like the Xbox version that the minute you choose a series it autoplays what it thinks is the next episode...even if you just want to see what episode you're on, choose a different episode, read about the show, etc. Very annoying.

OK, last night I watched a movie on Netflix that didn't have DD before, and it's working again. But, boy is the UI different! What the heck? Ads, etc. It looks like they tried to copy some of the good stuff from Amazon streaming, but went crazy with it.

You have the option to full screen the credits if need be. It's a pretty nice new feature. I think it skips the "previously on..." if you choose to play the next episode.

^^I just saw it do this last night after watching a movie ''Blood and Bone''. Credits reduced to a box in the upper left corner, underneath it, dvd covers for other titles, and the entire right side features a recommended title based on the movie just watched with option to play. The recommended title offered-the Bernie Mac Show, bore no resemblance to the movie at all, and neither did any of the other titles. Tried to back out and return to the credits but pressing O just took me back to the title summary UI. It's not as bad as I feared-at least this first time, it seemed to wait until after the actor credits passed by.

Of all the enhancements they could do, the one I'd most appreciate is returning full page viewing of each genre back to the main UI, rather than this confining scroll across in one line business they stuck us with for over a year now.

if you want to watch the credits, highlight/select the credit box in the top left corner and press x.

^^Thanks.

None of the content from Epix is in HD anymore. This has been for about two weeks now. Rango use to be in High/HD but when I played it last week it only went to High/SD. So now they can drop Epix like they did Starz because it is low quality now.
Also if you watch anything from the Just for Kids GUI it does not shrink the credits well at least for now.
I'm still getting audio sync issues. Did some research, when 1080p is turned off the menu the sync is fine but some reason 1080p stream causes it. Both my Roku and Netflix built in to the tv has no issues. PS3 is the only device i can receive 5.1 and 1080p.
Epix content is in HD again. Watched Rango last night. However it is not in HD on the computer saying Available in HD on your TV crap. I hate that. I watch Netflix on my computer just as much as my TV so it annoys me when something is available in HD on the TV but not on the computer. I noticed it more with new movies and any TV shows from FOX.

Did you click the HD button on the player to switch from SD? Just asking, as the webplayer forces you to choose HD instead of automatically playing it.

That is awesome! I was pissed...ton of movies in my queue were suddenly SD.

There's less titles available in HD on the PC than their are on the other streamers (probably due to concerns from content owners about people ripping the streams....although why anyone would rip the streams vs the higher quality BD's doesn't seem to make any sense).

You can verify the discrepancy in number of titles by going to Netflix and clicking on Genres then HD (or click here to go directly there). You'll see separate tabs for "All HD" and "HD for PC/Mac"
Does the Silverlight player have DRM that prevents ripping. Anyway thanks for the link. The HD only on your TV I will have to watch like the Epix stuff on my PS3.

At least the Disney content is all HD on the PC now as it was not before.

hmmm I've kind of stopped watching NetFlix on the PS3 for one reason alone. On the Xbox 360 it allows you to still stretch the image to fit your TV. I get annoyed by the black bars to the side. The PS3 however has no such option. I know when you watch a DVD the player allows you to do this but when in NetFlix no chance.
You mean when watching 4:3 content? I can't stand when 4:3 is stretched to 16:9. If I wanted it that way, I could do it with my TV anyway.
