What version of the PS3 do you have? It's not on mine.

Do a system update then

It's above the place you'd normally see a DVD
post #98 of 1195
Only some of the consoles have the Netflix update as of yet, don't expect to see it until sometime tomorrow.

I'll say I find Instant a tremendous value. In my area our Movie Gallery closed and our Blockbuster is full of 1000 copies of the mainstream Hollywood crap. Movie Gallery had a great selection of not quite A quality titles, Blockbuster does not. That said we have Redbox, that stays empty and Blockbuster is useless. I'm planning on increasing my Netflix to 2 disc at time and swear off the rest. Can't wait for this application to go native.

Rejoice, PS3 owners, your Netflix streaming experience just got vastly better than anything else on the market. Starting October 18 Netflix on the PS3 will no longer require a disc, and it'll stream some content with 1080i 1080p resolution and / or 5.1-channel surround audio, while everyone else will be stuck with a max of 720p stereo for the time being.

i live in the US. and i created a canadian account. logged in that account. and in the xmb, under the 'whats new" section i clicked on the netflix icon. it took me to the PS store and i downloaded the netflix app 2.0 19mb. i deleted that canadian account and went back to my original US account. the netflix icon is still there in the video section of the xmb but it wont work until monday or tuesday.

Not to be flip, but does it really matter? If you don't have it later in the day tomorrow, then make an issue out of it.

I have the icon. Trust me, it's not a big deal.

No sweat till tomorrow but do we need to dload from ps store? Or
post #109 of 1195
Nothing yet for me. Says I have the current update installed.
Update went live for me at 5am on the dot...
Downloaded from PS Store and done.
It loaded up fairly quickly and took me to the new home screen which is way better.

They now specify if a selection is in HD and 5.1.

I checked out The Secret of Kells and Undisputed III and they both look really, really good.
Undisputed III is in 5.1 and man what a difference !

The streaming quality is amazing...there is still compression artifacts, but not as noticeable overall.
There definitely is a difference going to 1080p from the already good looking 720p HD streams...

Very worth the wait IMO : )

Netflix streaming just got waaaaay better !
Haven't got the update (will when I get home), but there has been some dispute elsewhere that the 1080p is just the PS3 upconverting 720p.

Can anyone confirm it's actually 1080p coming down? Also, if so, is there a way to identify a 720p vs. 1080p in the menu system, or do all titles just say "HD"?

Can't wait to try it out tonight though. The sound alone has me excited.
Installed the app just now. I went to the 'What's New' section of the XMB, and there was a Netflix icon linking me to a PS Store download.

Once installed I gave it a quick try, and just about everything is an improvement over the streaming disk. It loads faster, you can fast forward and rewind faster, and it starts playing your selection more quickly. Just about an improvement in every way. I am very glad that the exclusivity agreement with MS expired. It was a long wait, but it was worth it.

yep netflix works in the usa now

You know as I get almost to middle age not many things make me giddy like a kid on Christmas morning, but looking forward to playing around with this after work tonight does.

I know what you mean. I had to leave for work this morning at 7 AM but one of the first things I did before leaving was seeing if it was in the PS Store yet.
I agree with everyone. Well worth the wait. This just eliminated an Apple TV from my list.

Ok watching the secret of krells.

Hitting select, this pops up:

Video: X-High/HD
Audio: English/Stereo (primary)

When I hit the info button on my Samsung Plasma it says this:

1920/1080 @ 60hz

On my rx-v765 AVR I'm showing Dolby PLII and 3.1 (my rears aren't hooked up)

The picture is great and so is e sound.

Switched to When in Rome (non HD)

Says this...

Video: High/SD
Audio: English/Stereo (primary)

Sammy info says:

1920x1080 @ 60hz

Same result on the AVR.

Hard to tell if I'm getting truly 1080 but all in all, well done netflix/Sony

Is there a separate area to search for just HD movies?

I'm looking but I can't see it. I'm having to hit details on every movie to see unless I'm missing something.

Amen, my brother! Your four sentences summed it all up. I am so glad I rolled the dice with internal/external streaming. Over the past two years, the quality has ever so slowly improved...Now this!

Definitely a quantum leap forward, especially with the sound quality. I am quite giddy at the moment...Will
