I don't get bent out of shape when a player has trouble playing non-compliant video...

So, people with the 1080p60 camcorders from Sony / Panasonic are going to be disappointed when they find that the new WDTV Live SMP doesn't play back those streams reliably while they could have just invested in the Live Hub which performs better in that situation.

As for 16 reframe videos, I thought they were pretty rare too.. But, turns out that there is plenty of anime content out there encoded with those characteristics.

You can use this method with any media player. I do not have any sort of Raid yet. However, I will be building a server soon. I'm not sure what OS I'll be using yet, but unRaid is a the top so far. I'm waiting for the hdd to drop in price.

Right now, I've got 2 2tb hdd in the 4 bay external enclosure. I was going to put 4, but my ripped movie library isn't as big yet since I've stopped ripping due to some issues I'm having with the A-300.

Well, I plugged in the WDTV to my router/switch and it was automagically detected by my network. I'm no networking guru, so if you're having issues with seeing the drive on the WDTV from your PC, you'll need to do a little research, but I'm sure it can be done.

As far as creating folders goes, I deleted the stock folders on the drive (sample media ones) and just created folders like any other drive (Right click on the drive, highlight 'new', left click on folder). In my case I made 3, 'TV shows', 'Movies', and 'Music'. I then created shortcuts to each from within the WDTV menus. Now, all I do is press the down arrow at the home screen on the WDTV to bring these up and click on the appropriate one. As far as making additional folders for files, you just do the above as subfolders and name them as you will.

Is this model going to have a reboot anytime soon? Is their anything this model does that the live without HD does? Also what is the best price this model is going for? Thanks.

Has anyone tried using Promise Technology NAS/Servers with hub? I'm thinking of purchasing one soon

I got mine for $59 on Newegg at the end of November. (Technically $79)

They had it on sale for $149.99, which was cool, but they also had a $50 coupon code for it. That brought it to $100. I then used my Google offers code for $40 off. (this cost $20, so the total paid was actually $79).

Keep an eye out, I have seen them for around $100 a bunch of times.

So did I, with $3.99 Next Day Air, I got it yesterday, just finished moving all my movies onto the 1tb hard drive. For my purposes the WD Live Hub is GREAT!

Is anyone using Windows Media Audio Lossless files with the Hub?

I have spent a huge amount of time with my media library getting into ripped, filed, album art, ratings, etc. and would love to be able to just import it into a device that is less cumbersome to use than my PC.

Should I put each movie in its own folder or just dump a bunch into say theme folders like 'action'?
Probably depends on how many movies you have on the hub. If there are so many it takes to much time to go through, then yep catagorize them with seperate folders. Its your preference.

Keep in mind that METADATA / Backdrops / etc. don't work at the folder-level if you put everything in their own folders.

You have to descend into the containing folder to view that.

Yep, and I guess I really don't understand that. I like to keep my videos separated from one another. But at least there is some info there, even if you have to drill down for it.

Different boxes have different requirements... Boxee, for example requires you to put movies in individual folders, or the artwork gets screwed up.

The WD doesn't, it just limit one feature: metadata.

To me, it makes sense... If you put THREE movies in one folder, what would the WD be expected to display? Pick one of the movies' metadata? Pick the First? What would be considered FIRST in that case? ...etc etc.

I think it's more intuitive to group movies in folders ad-hoc. But that's just one user's opinion...

I completely shut down my hub (press power for 5 seconds) each night. Is it normal for the "WD" logo to flash numerous of times when turning the hub back on?

I have a few movie titles the Live Hub can't find content info for. I have the Get Content Info set to automatic, but it isn't working for titles like Contagion, 50 50, The Thing 2011, and a few others. Selecting the title and pressing options on the remote used to display an option to get content info where I could pick the correct title, but that no longer appears in the menu. Any suggestions to fix either (or both) problems?

You might try setting the Get Content Info to manual. After my initial automatic scan, I found several titles missing. Once I set it to manual, I was able to search and find the appropriate info.

Of course. It's explained in the manual.

I was looking at getting a 1-2TB external hard drive to backup some of my important files and all my pictures that are on my current HTPC. While searching, I stumbled across this device. Now thinking, should I spend an extra $70 or so and go ahead and get a media hub. This would allow me to put this into my kids play room and then play movies for them there....? What you guys think?

I wouldn't. I would spend more $$ on a 2tb hdd instead.

How many pictures would fit on a 2TB? I was think a 1 TB would last me forever.

There is no one but you that could answer that question. We have no idea what the file size of your pictures are.

Is this worth the extra money to get its advantages over a normal drive? Specs look really good!

It's your decision. You want it buy it.

Did a search and can't find the answer and hope some power users can help or direct to the answer if it already exists.

I am looking to buy the WD TV Live Hub or non-Hub version and want all the advertised functionality to playback all types of audio, video, and picture files, but I am very curious about how iTunes fits into things.

First, I don't really care for iTunes, but it does currently have all of my music managed on a home server with access to it from laptops and desktops and works well and given the number of Apple devices will not be going away and managing multiple libraries or copies of files is not an option.

I would like to be able to use playlists already created or new ones that may be modified often in iTunes with the WD TV to playback these files which I imagine would be moved over to the device and managed by it.

Can the WD TV read playlists and then actively play them back? If not, is there a way to create a playlist it can read and use? Is there a way to automate this process so the latest playlists for mp3's I have ripped with no DRM are available on the WD TV?

Can someone also provide some insight to the iTunes server? I am not clear if it scans all sources of audio and video and copies them over or if it wants you to move them to it or if it actively plays from network locations and itself. I believe the server side of things means it makes this "library" of information available in an iTunes readable format so then iTunes can use the "library" generated by the WD TV to create its own iTunes library, but not actively manage the music location or folders. Therefore each computer in the network that can access the iTunes server would create its own playlist. Would WD TV have access to play those playlists referencing back to my first question? How does one import (rip or download) new music and get it into the managed WD TV "library"?

I just put 50/50 blu ray rip on my Hub yesterday, it found the content no problem, go to manual search and search for 50.50.2011 it'll find it no problemo!

Good luck!

There are times when I have no network connection , I then go to setup and try to reconnect .It will not and then I get the message "limited or no network connection "then unplug network cable and power cable and then reconnect , is there any way to stop my Hub from losing network connection ?

I don't think its your hub. Do you have your hub connected directly to your router? Or to a switch? If you are using a switch try connecting it to your router. If this fixes the problem then you need a different switch. If it continues it might be your router.

I don't know your network set up. So I'm just guessing on your connection.

Thanks for your response , I do have it connected to my router along with my AVR and Blu Ray and no problems . Do you still think it could be my router ?
