I didn't realize the linksheets could be separate from the movie itself. I don't remember the theme I tried, but it required everything in the same folder, movie files, cover files and linksheets. As you said - chaos. I currently have all my movies in their own folder, and I believe there is a folder.jpg in each one that is the cover pic. Now, if I could keep that structure, but still use linksheets, I may have to take another look.

As far as I can remember, linksheets always had to be in the root of the theme on the HUB. Prior to that (and can be done still), it was an XML that had to be in the same directory as the media and cover.jpg. The XMLs dynamicaly create the sheet and call up images from the net. People with the SMP are pretty much forced to still use that method since there is only 30MBs available for themes on that device, which is not really enough room for the theme and all the linksheets if you have a lot of movies or tv series

You can do it with your setup, but you will be making linksheets for your folders instead of the movies files. That way as you browse your movies, each folder you click to would show a sheet for the movie that is inside of it. Worth looking into. The "Simplicity Folder Sheet" template will get you there, but you probably want to have a decent grasp on using Thumbgen. Linksheets certainly enhance the HUB a lot. Since I started using them, there was no turning back for me.

Good Luck

I seem to have terrible wifi problem lately with my hub and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Currently running 1TB WDLTVH thats about 2yrs old. Using belkin usb wifi adapter and its been fine in the past. Wifi transfer from comp to hub as I understand is terrible at 20-35mbps which I learn to live with. But lately whenever I dl'ed something on utorrent and try to send it over to the hub it keep getting d/c. I tried swapping out to a new tplink usb wifi adapter and it still persists. However streaming I absolutely have no problem with. HULU and Netflix works perfectly fine. Its only when I try to transfer something I would always get d.c Any ideas? Router Netgear WNDR3700.

What is d/c?

Disconnection or disconnected.
I have mine connected via ethernet (using powerline ethernet which I highly recommend!), and for some movies I stream via Plex, occasionally my hub is at a standstill where I get the circling arrow and it won't let me watch anything. At that point I have to re-boot the device in order to get it all working again. It's very annoying, especially with how long it takes to reboot the device. Not sure if this is similar to your issue, or if it's just a straight disconnect you are having with your wi-fi. Reason I bring this up is that it might have nothing to do with wi-fi but has something to do with the hub rendering certain movies causing the device to basically "freeze" with that arrow. When this happens, I can't even watch movies that are stored locally on the hub or via the connected USB drive. There must be some kind of "memory" issue in the device is all I can think of that might be causing this behavior.

Has anyone tried or know of any tutorials to replace the internal hard drive ? Logically it seems you could do it by just mirroring the drive on to a larger one ...
Hi all,

I got a question regarding the WD TV live hub 1/2 Terra..

my setup:
1. LG TV 55" LM9600 at living room
2. Samsung TV 40" F6400 at Bed room
3. Denon 1917 as AVR at living room
4. Home Theater speakers setup at living room
5. Macbook and iMac as the computer to store and download media files - located at living room

now I would like to have the ability to be able to stream my media from my macbook or iMac to both LG TV (sound output through Home Theater speaker) and Samsung TV (build in speaker), both simultaneously and independently..

So is buying one WD TV live hub can help me for my case? and is the file stored inside the WD TV live hub can be played simultaneously and independently to both my TVs?

another quick question, the HDMI on WD TV live hub do have the ability to pass the 5.1 sound setup right?

Thank you in advance for reading this.

any input or helps are greatly appreciated.

I don't know if anyone has successfully mirrored the drive onto a larger one, but there are a couple threads out there with regard to removing the drive completely. You'd probably be better off just attaching an external 2 or 3TB drive.

hey so... I am having issues with my WD media player remote... I cant get letters to come up on the remote so I can log onto my netflix account..........any suggestions?
Not sure why the remote is the issue. I have only logged into Netflix a few times but if I recall correctly, similar to most logins, the keyboard comes up on the screen and you use the remote to move to each letter and press enter. Anyways if you are having a remote issue here are a few options to solve your Netflix Login Issue as well as all other remote problems.

1) Get a universal remote. A cheap one will work but a decent logitech one will make your life a lot better
2) Attach a USB wireless keyboard to the the WD Device
3) Download and use either IOS or Android remote apps from their respective online stores for free. I use the IOS one on my Iphone and the Adroid one on my Nexus and they both work pretty well.

Not really sure that solves your problem or that I understand it correctly, but if it remote specific, those above three are all usable solutions.

Good Luck

Press the OK button and the On-Screen Keyboard will appear.

Good call WDFan1970. I am betting you are correct, that the poster just has not hit enter (OK) while highlighting the name / password boxes to get the keyboard to popup.

Tried this at Hub Forums, thought I would try here too...

Any help here would be appriciated...

I use WDTV Live Hub XML Editor to write my own XMLs for my Network Shares...which works fine, will display thumbnails, backdrops and XML info. But if I use for movies on the Hub itself or USBs it will not show the thumbnails. Everything else works/displays fine.

I have tried changing jpg to metathumb, even putting old folder.jpg or folder.meathumb nothing shows...

any suggestions?
It shouldn't be called "folder.jpg", it should be the same name as the movie. Like "moviename.jpg" or "moviename.metathumb"

Tried that too WdFan....Thanks though

If this previously worked, and now doesn't, maybe it has to do with TheMovieDB shutting down the old API. Don't know if that XML Editor has been updated to use the new API?

No this doesn't us TMDB api it's all manual, you put your own thumbnails or backdrops yourself from any source. It's weird because if I write my own onto my shares the Hub will display the thumbnail. If I use on the Hub itself or attached USB drive it will not show the thumbnail, mad.gif

I'm stumped....confused.gif

Are you talking about a thumbnail to represent the drive itself (the "root") or ALL movies on the drive?

No for a movie itself... But I think I narrowed it down... weird as it sounds it's a theme issue...When I was playing around l changed themes, on a different theme the thumbnail/cover art popped up. Went back and no thumbnail....

I'm using this until WD fixes the TMDB/ Get Content Info issue....

Otter I feel for you on this whole TMDB API issue. I dont use the internal scraper, but Thumbgen cannot get to the TMDB either at the moment which is killing me. As a work around I have been using blue-ray.com as my main collector in TG and it works reasonably well. It does scrape most of the data I have needed so far, but will always choose a blu-ray cover and on a few movies has not had the f1 fanart. I can easily find a cover and a correct sized backround pic on google images and download them, manually feed those into Thumbgen so it still works enough to make the linksheets I need for the Simplicity theme. Worth a shot till this thing gets fixed.

Would you mind saying which theme is causing your moviename.jpg issue on the local drives?

Yeah, that IS weird. Themes don't change the behavior of thumbnails for networked versus local movies... At least in no way I've ever heard of... Hmmm.

What I'm pissed about is TMDB gave plenty of notice that they were changing the API... I guess everyone missed the Memo!

It was the Simple theme.

Me either, but I switched from Simple theme. to Simple Updated, Simpilicity, to several others and the thumbnail/coverart displayed except on Simple. The theme my family all loves!
Yeah, there apparently was a lot of notice from what I can tell. They has a countdown to the API change from 2x to 3x, and were even tweeting that out consistently. Has to be more to it though since the internal scraper on the HUB is having issues, as well as Hubgen and Thumbgen. Seems no one adapted the new API into their programs.

Like WDFan1970 said, makes not sense to me on your thumbs issue. I don't code themes, but from what I can see in the XML files for most views (rv_gallery_browse_page.xml etc), all it does is point to the alignment of the thumb in gallery mode. It does appear that you can disable viewing the thumbnail, but then that would happen for all drives, not just the local ones. Very strange behavior.

If it all works with all the other themes, I would delete "simple" and re install it. I am assuming you are using XML files that work across multiple themes. I would toast the metathumbs as well and just keep the moviename.jpgs. A fresh start is at least a good place to begin from.

This behavior is pretty strange but at least you have narrowed it down to the theme.

BTW, I'll install "simple" when I get a chance this weekend and see what happens. I have a few movies on the local hub drive, and the other 99% on a file server so should be easy to see if I can replicate your problem.

Good Luck. Keep working it and let us know how you are progressing.

Sorry Otter0911, no info from my test. I did install "simple" on my Hub but did not come across the same issue as you. I was able to see my cover thumbs on the local drive, as well as network drives. All of my thumbnails are named "moviename".jpg and I have folder.jpgs as well that worked fine. I did not use any XMLs for metadata as everything I have is linksheets for Simplicity and Black Mamaba so no XMLs to try out. Anyways, all the cover thumbs showed up fine on both local and remote drives.

One suggestion to see if your XML files are calling the thumbnail (which can be done). How about moving all or at least some for a test of the XML files for your movies to a separate directory for a test and see if that has any effect on showing the thumbnails locally. I know it's kind of a shot in the dark, but by default, the WD Device should show you the covers regardless of theme or if you have any metadata for the movies. In my test above, I obviously did not have any metadata or info about the movies, just got see the thumbs

Good Luck

Thanks Pearl, I'm gonna try some of your suggestions and see what happens...Will keep you updated.

And over at WD Forums a user is reported that Get Content is working on the hub as long as you have the latest firmware. Waiting to hear more about that...

Did you try using WDTV Live Hub XML Editor with Simple?

@Otter0911 - I did not due to time constraint. Just installed theme to see if I could see m thumbs on the local and remote drive. I'll install and make a few XMLs with it and give it a test when I get a chance and let you know what happens.

Thanks MPearl

Okay, didn't realize how quick it would be to make the XMLs that way. Just did two, one for a movie on the Hubs disk and one for a movie on my File Server. Thumbs showed fine for both still, but the theme did not show any of the metadata that I have in the XML file. Not sure what I am doing wrong, and it;s been over a year since I made XMLs instead of linksheets, so probably something silly I am forgetting. I manually made the XML using that editor, drag and dropped the cover jpg on to the frame that it goes in for the program. It created the cover jpeg and the XML file. Not showing the metadata though, but is showing the covers created by this program on local and remote drives.

If you have any idea of what I am not doing correctly I am happy to give it a try as a test for you. I do have to ask why you would use this editor and manually fill in all the info and find the cover etc when Thumbgen will autofill all of this type of stuff. With TG, I can make linksheets for 100's of movies with the click of a button and walk away from the machine. Come back and they are done. This seems pretty user intensive unless I was missing something here.

Anyways, happy to test whatever you would like when time permits. If you are using a HUB, I would go with a linksheet theme. No reason to be using XMLs that need to pull up data every time.

Let me know what I can try next for you or how I can figure out why the XML files are not showing the metadata. For now, back to Simplicity on my HUB and my SMP for the evening's movies.
