Hey,I am still waiting on the sound proof doors to be installed. But it should not be long now.

Hi Dave

Just read your whole thread today and congrats on all that you have achieved and your appreciation of quality gear and what it brings.
I am in the throw of starting my first home theatre build in its own dedicated building and had a couple of questions.
My proposed dimensions are very similar to your room and i am trying to get a feel of room size to screen size to seating distance.

I saw your room dimensions and was wandering if the length 22' 3" (6.78m) is from the front of your baffle wall to the back wall?
Your screen size is 14' (4.2m) wide i gather, not diagonal? What height is your screen?
And is it correct that you have one row of seating at 12' (3.6m) from the screen?

cheers

Ian

As an owner of an eight driver sub system myself, I see that there's a plethora of over-the-top sub systems cropping up. However, Dave, your high displacement sub system is matched also in the level of integration and optimization.

Good lookin' out brotha cool.gif
Can't wait until I have the full 8 IB subs working!

Yes , the distance to the back wall from the baffle wall is approx 21'. Seating distance is at 10' 7" right now.

Should'nt that seating distance be at 8.474' (38%) from the back wall? The best results for sound with that size room! I'm not trying to be a pain! Just thinking.

Hear that! And how is the picture at that viewing distance? It's been some time since we seen any pictures of the room, never have with the seats in place. Please Dave post at least one photo!biggrin.gif. Thanks

Finnaly got the 3rd sound proof door installed. Hopefully this will stop the ULF getting into the bedrooms.

LOL !!! Let me clean the room first! It is a mess with PC parts from the several HTPC builds and Server build. Not only that I have been pulling my hair out trying to get these 4TB disks to register in the array on the server.

So they are coming for sure!

This is just a killer theater! Read the entire thread instead of working, was definately a slacker today. When I retire from Navy and buy a house (and stay for longer than 2 yrs) I am looking to do a full IB sub system. Yours is definately inspiring.

Heya JapanDave,

I just found your build thread because I too have a concrete bunker (10 inch grade 40 concrete all around including tops and bottoms). The sound is horrible with all the reveberations / echoes.

I noticed you hired Dennis to do your sound acoustics work. How much does it cost? PM me please if you get the time. And how's the sound quality after all your treatment work?

BTW: You have a truly awesome HT.. it's super beautiful. What projector are you using?

This is just one man's opinion, based on just one afternoon's listening, but being in Dave's room gives no telltale signs of being in a concrete bunker, except possibly the astonishing solidity of the bass and the total lack of sympathetic resonances clouding the result. Just superb. My post.

BTW: How does the new speakers compare to the catalysts?

They really take you to town with inspection fees, holding fees, more inspection fees, shipping to the inspection site fees, shipping back to the holding facility fees, then additional holding fees, fees to allow the goods back into the holding facility, docking fees, unloading fees and then fees to cover the fees. I am surprised they didn't ask for a lung...

What sort of air shipping company did you use? DHL? FedEx? I am trying to find the cheapest way to ship 1000lbs of speakers myself from the US.

Hey, thanks for the comments. You should shoot Dennis a PM and get a quote. Unfortunately I can not give you a price as every room is different and the costs for what you may need could be different.

But, as Roger has said in his posts before, the sound is very good. No signs that you are in a concrete room. The clarity of the system is excellent ,and even with the huge amount of energy in the lower octaves.

Really hard to do a comparison on my speakers now and the Catalysts.

If you are getting speakers from Mark Seaton, he should be able to get them to you quite cheaply shipping wise.

Hello Dave. Long time no speak. I just spent the last 20 min going through you build thread. You have quite an impressive system there. I am glad that the ear issue was figured out and taken care of. Your audio and video must be state of the art. If I missed them, can you post some more final pics of the room, or at least link to those pics. Those main speakers you look very impressive as well. So congrats on what has to be an awe inspiring system.
