Playing Digital music on sub-zone speakers

I am thinking of buying the Pioneer Elite VSX-31, but before I do I need to ensure it can play music from an HMDI connected digital source (my Mac mini playing Pandora, for instance) out to the patio speakers on a sub-zone.

The VSX-31 manual says that the input sources available for a sub-zone include, "DVD, TV/SAT, DVR/BDR, VIDEO, INTERNET RADIO, iPod/USB, CD, CD-R/TAPE, TUNER, ADAPTER PORT, SIRIUS (Outputs analog audio and composite video)".

As a novice AV Receiver user, I'm worried I may be missing something, since there's nothing here explicitly saying it supports music from a Mac mini connected via the HDMI port.

So my question is this - Will this receiver play HDMI connected, digitally sourced music from my Mac mini to the Zone 2 patio speakers?

Thanks!

Zone 2/3 in most receivers is a joke, as they can not be used for ANY digital source. Only few top level models can work with PCM, like Denon 4810 and 5308. Even then you need s/pdif connection, not HDMI.

Apparently not. As noted above, very few AVRs < $1000 will play other than analog to Zone 2 and only a few will play PCM 2.0. The new Yamaha RX-AXXXX models will play HDMI to Zone 2.
