sub $200 subwoofer

Hi all,

I'm now putting the finishing touches on my first home theater setup but am finding it a bit difficult to find the right sub. Many subs I searched on this forum have had mixed reviews and it is difficult for me to tell which will be a great fit for my purposes.

Polk 2 monitor60 fronts
Polk cs1 center
Polk 2 monitor30 backs
Yamaha RX-A700 receiver
and Samsung PN50C550

I use it mainly for movies and watching sports, but occasionally for music as well (mostly jazz, soft rock, and blues).

I do not listen to anything at high volumes and for that reason will prefer the sub to produce cleaner lows rather than be very powerful.

The room is 35'x15' and the budget as mentioned earlier is $200 or under.

Thank you!

I not sure you can even buy a sub for $200, and if you can probably not much good. You would most likely do better looking for used sub, but might have to still pay more than $200.
Another option would to buy either driver/plate amp from Parts Express, or their complete sub systems. Many under $200.

I think for your budget and room size, It would be best to look at purchasing a used subwoofer that might be of a little higher caliber.

If you can deal with not having a warranty, and it being previously owned.

An under $200 woofer, while not bad, is typically going to be limited on overall bass output. In that large room it might take a few of the lower cost woofers to really be noticed. So take into consideration having to add another one in the future possibly.

What's the height of the room? The area so far is pretty big, and if the ceilings are even average height, that's a pretty large volume a $200 sub might have problems with.

BIC F 12

Pionieer sw-8

Lava Sub 8 in ( you can send a tell to the guy who works for the company on the board and they will give you a 15% coupon )

though for your room size prob the BIC F12

For a room that large the only subwoofer I could recommend in your price range is the Bic F12

Anything smaller would struggle in a room that size

Thank you guys for the quick response.

The ceiling is rather low - about 6'6"

That's close to 3500 cubic feet, if my math is right. Yeah, Bic F12, I agree.

The Bic F12 is available at Parts Express for $215. And it has a BASH 475w amp. I'd say that is the one to get.

How long would it take to get it with Amazon's free shipping?

FWIW, Amazon price is currently (30 seconds ago) $204 with free shipping. Still a good deal if you don't want to wait.
