As I alluded to in my last article entitled 3 Reasons why Home Technology Integration is about to Ignite, Streaming Media is the number one reason that I predict a drastic shift spanning the next few years. The truth is that we're already in the beginning phases of this shift, though it may be hard to see that perspective from down in the trenches. Honestly, I believe that Netflix has been one of the bigger catalysts when it comes to the adoption of Streaming Media within the typical consumers' world. Today, you will find Netflix embedded on any number of Blu-ray players, TVs, game consoles, and more.

While Netflix has steadily built an empire from its streaming media, there have also been a number of hardware companies that have put together devices that aggregate, or combine, the plethora of channels (for lack of a better word) that exist beyond Netflix and that are available to anyone with a high-speed Internet connection

Great read. I can't help but get stuck on the price difference, though. Roku offers a pretty refined product for $60 and Logitech's first-gen box is $220. For those of us on a budget, it seems pretty logical to go with Roku now and wait until the inevitable kinks are ironed out of the Logitech product. By that time it'll probably be cheaper, too. For those not worried about spending the money right out of the gate, though, the Logitech looks interesting.

ditto the wait it out approach... heck... even the home integration advantage is a red herring for me, as I'd want that control remotely with or without the streaming capability and an ipod touch is cheaper and more refined for the HA. Given convergence was supposed to be such a major theme over the past few years, I sure am left hoping for a more 'converged' device (crosses fingers, hopes for a tablet device with IR, RF, front and rear camera and widi for streaming from the cloud or local NAS to any of the displays in my house).

I'm wondering this also. I'd like to have a player that can also stream hd videos from my NAS. It seems like the Roku may be very limited in this respect. How about the logitech?

I missed Nikita and Fringe Friday night because of an outage. I'm just wondering if having one of these would allow me to watch it via the net on my TV. I'm not really sure how these work.

Not sure about Nikita, but Fringe isn't on Hulu Plus on my Roku.
