Another great review Ralph! My wife and I both love these flicks and have the DVD version, so I think based on your review, I will rent them first.

Cheers,

Fantastic movies that I never tire of! Thanks for the review!

It should be noted that the NBC special was hosted by Leslie Nielsen. Not Leslie Lielsen.

Great review Ralph!

I agree with your assessment. All three films looks great on BD!

I know these movies are meant to just be enjoyed for what they are (Light hearted comedies featuring attempted rape and incest)......but bad Time Travel logic is a pet peeve of mine, and it just ruins these movies for me a little too much.
1 is kind of enjoyable, 2 is unwatchable (yet I loved it as a kid), 3 is still enjoyable and probably my favorite (I love westerns).

Actually, according to a physicist who's part of a bonus feature, he states they actually get the time travel right from a scientific point of view (about time being a river etc...). Not sure what you mean about the Time Travel Logic.

I think the time-travel logic in BttF is fine. Every time-travel movie I've ever seen has logical problems, even highly praised ones like 12 Monkeys and Primer; many seem to invite the viewer to analyze the situation, which makes it worse when you find that they've gotten it wrong. BttF doesn't take itself too seriously, so I'm willing to cut it some slack.

avoiding paradoxes

Lost did a very good (but not perfect) job with it.

Great review Ralph. Really looking forward to watching these movies. Pleased that they are going to look and sound great on Blu as well.

I don't post here often (long time lurker) but I wanted to compliment you Mr. Potts on an excellent review. Incredibly thorough and well explained. Thank you sir and keep up the great work!

How come that an old 2K-Scan, that has been treated with "plenty" DNR and EE got 88 points in the PQ-Department???

This has been my point as well. Compare it to the VQ in Rocky Horror Picture show (that received the same VQ rating), and one is CLEARLY better than the other

Greetings,

I am not sure how you define "plenty" in this case. Based upon your open ended question I think it is safe to assume that you haven't in fact seen these yet.

The answer to your question can be found in my review which speaks for itself. If you have reservations about the quality of these titles then by all means avoid them.

Asking me why I rated them as stated in my review seems redundant. Lastly if you want to vent/discuss the issue of DNR with respect to Back to the future there is a thread in the Blu-ray software section.

The Back to the Future trilogy is the greatest trilogy ever made! I may not think Part II is the best, but I and III are absolutely fantastic! Those are two of my favorite movies, and am glad that this movie is not just on Blu-ray now, but earns top honors just about everywhere!

Unfortunately, I do not have a Blu-ray player at this moment, but if I ever get one within the next five years or so, this box set (plus Home Alone and Beauty and the Beast) will be my first three Blu-ray choices!

UPS just dropped off my copy of BTTF so I'll watch this when i get home... as far as the complaints go:

I really cant tell the differnce bettween a movie that has been DNRed or EEed so makes no difference to me.. Those of you who complain about it are just too darn picky

I do however know that Fellowship of the Ring was a god awful transfer...

Can't wait to pick this one up in a week or two!

Great review, Ralph!

The packaging is utterly useless and horrendous. I've never seen such bad packaging before. I had no clue how to remove the discs and ended up brekaing one of the tabs. Even then I almost either scratched the disc or ended up breaking it in half.

Video quality is superb given the age of the films and the original releases as is the sound quality.

Wait till you receive your own copies to see how bad the packaging is for yourself. It will be universally hated.

Greetings,

Madness, it frustrated me as well which is why I included instructions on how to remove the discs in my review. I was hoping to save others from having a problem.

Great review Ralph! Received my copy yesterday, and today I struggle with the case..
Didn't watch the movie, but please tell the studio that their new case sucks big time....

Chris,

If it helps, I already sent an email complaining. Heck, Universal seems to be the king of poor packaging..."Heroes," "Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series," and now "Back to the Future." Maybe in the future, they should pick the packaging they like the least and I bet us consumers would be happier for it!

Greetings,

I sympathize Chris. I included instructions on removal of the discs in my review. If you continue to struggle give me a call.

Our covers over here in Australia Ralph must be different as they pop out very easily.
Thanks Dave and Ralph!

After breaking one of the little plastic springs, I learn how to take them out... Hopefully today I will start watching them...
just put your finger in the center of the disk, pull it down, and it pops right out..getting it back IN on the other hand...

Anyone have any problems playing these discs in their Blu-ray player? I have a Samsung BD-P1600 with the firmware that came with it when I purchased last year.

Watched the first last night, fantastic.
