Anyone with the new 8700ub or 8350 please help

I've been asking in both forums and no one is willing to help. I feel the posts keep getting berried and not seen.

Can anyone with an 8700ub or 8350 please remove there lamp and take photos of it for us all. The previous owners of the 8500ub (me) and many others that have the 8100, 6500ub, 6100, 7500ub and so forth. This is also important for future/current 8700ub and 8350 owners.

I would like to find out if the bulb is any different than whats in the previous models. The bulb issues have only been with old models since the new ones are to new. Wouldn't an owner of the newer ones like to know that the bulb has actually changed from the previous ones that way you can feel confident you can get more bulb life. The part number is the same, but I'm hoping epson just found a new better manufacture that is making better quality bulbs. If there exactly the same and made from the same country then the new 8350 8700ub owners wont be happy either.

So please if someone can post of photos of there lamp and where its made, like china or japan or what ever is says on it.

Thanks!!!!

You worry to much.

why dont you go epson website and compare the two lamps? just compare the model numbers.

I doubt too many are willing to mess with a bulb that already doesn't have the best reputation out there. I'm not touching mine.

Like i mentioned before I did my research, here is what I found

The 8500ub replacement lamp V13H010L49 1600 lumens
The 9500ub replacement lamp V13H010L49 1600 lumens
The 6500ub replacement lamp V13H010L49 1600 lumens
The 7500ub replacement lamp V13H010L49 1600 lumens
The 8700ub replacement lamp V13H010L49 1600 lumens
The 9700ub replacement lamp V13H010L49 1600 lumens
the 8350 replacement lamp V13H010L49 2000 lumens
the 8100 replacement lamp V13H010L49 1800 lumens
the 6100 replacement lamp V13H010L49 1800 lumens

Do you see a trend here! they all use the same V13H010L49 Lamp! So yes even the newer units will have lamp failure if the lamp hasn't been addressed and fixed in the manufacturing process. What I find strange is the fact that all the projectors use the same lamp yet some say they produce more lumens! If epson hasnt fixed there manufacturing process then the new 8700 and 8350's which are rated at 4000hours as well will have a hard time hitting it like ever other pj.

I made this thread to help work together to see if epson is actually doing anything to fix the issue, if epsons way of fixing it is to replace lamps if they blow then the projectors become costly after warranty expires. It would be a piece of mind to know epson is actually trying to fix this issue by making the manufacturing process different or having somewhere else do it.

Not everyone would be willing to mess with it, but there are some who are willing to help contribute to a cause. all units have a 2 year warranty and a 90 day lamp warranty and as we all know epson replaces lamps with no questions asked so the likely hood of opening your projector to take photos and re seating it would not pop your lamp. If that was the case you wouldn't ever get a new lamp because the lamp would be destroyed by the shipping company to tosses the box around like candy. There more durable than that.

You could buy an Epson 8350 yourself, check out the lamp, and put a few thousand hours on it, and do a service to all on the forum and monitor the lamp life and report on the Epson's image as the lamp ages........

Why would I do that when I already have an 8500ub, It would be cheaper to buy a new bulb to compare it, but then why would i do that since I can get a new one from epson for free when it goes.

I dont know why this is such a big deal, and why people are wining about it. Its not like im asking people to take the lamps out and do something with them. I'm asking a simple task, but what ever when the new ones start failing those owners will be on here asking why, why does my bulb fail, why is epson doing this, and why must i have bulb issues. We'll they wont have answers because people just dont have any support for fellow members to collaborate and figure it out. Its a waste of money for me to buy an 8350 and use it, or buy it to look at the lamp. If i had the money to do that i wouldn't be worried about lamp life because then I would have the cash to replace it every 800 hours or so.

i understand. i hope someone answers your question. try contacting epson directly regarding the same.

I have and they just deny it. They would also ask if im having bulb issues and that if i am they can send a new one out. The honest guy that I am said no its working fine. I could have gotten a new one, but I'd rather it be justified when i really have the issue. I just wish epson could acknowledge it and tell us if its being addressed, but then again that would force a huge recall which could affect epson really bad, worse than sending free bulbs out.

We'll it looks like new information has come out

According to an article posted on Projector Central today, by Evan, Epson will replace the lamp anytime during the life of the projector's warranty, if you experience any problem with premature (4,000 hours?) lamp failure.

Quote: " ....premature lamp failure on any Epson 1080p projector will be covered for the entire duration of the projector's warranty, not the lamp's warranty."
" If you encounter an early lamp failure on any Epson 1080p model, Epson asks that you contact them directly at 800-637-7661 (use your PIN on PrivateLine Support Card)."

So there has to be someone who will take some photos now, the warranty covers the whole life of the unit and replaces bulbs if they need to be replaced!

If this is true than it gives you your answer. Sounds obvious that Epson knows their lamps aren't too sturdy and are using the same ones they've been using in previous years.

Perhaps they're aware of issues and are simply trying to get rid of old stock before they design a new bulb (or they designed a new one already and are waiting to deplete inventory before using them). Either way, it sounds like they're admitting they know there's a problem with them. I'm cool with the warranty, though.

Why wouldn't you be?? Think about it, when the warranty expires which is 2 years from now, you'll be SOL. So then you have to pay $300 for every bulb that pops. That's just a temperately fix, epson needs to work on the long-term fix.

You don't have to be 3 to want your projectors bulb to last more than 2k hours once your warranty expires. Which a lot of 6500ub and 8100, and 6100 users are going to have very soon if it hasn't already. My justification to finding out if epson is doing anything or not is still just. Epson just made sure that for 2 years i can be worry free, but not after.

Well I don't know if your still in need but my 8350 was purchased in Nov. and now has 420hrs and the bulb blew tonight after dimming quickly this week. I'm very concerened about this bulb issue and also want to know from others about Bulb life in the 8350 so I will take picks of what I take out and what they send me to replace and I will ask what they intend to do to address this before the warranty ends.

I'm happy to report that after owning my 6500UB for 2 years less 3 days, my lamp decided to die. A quick call to Epson and they agreed to replace the lamp in my projector with only 2300 hours on it. Yeah!! Thankfully the lamp dies BEFORE my two-year warranty was up.

I'm a very happy customer. Thank you Epson!!

Timely-but-old thread: my 8350UB - purchased 21-12-2010 - just had its bulb die. Not much warning AFAIK. I don't know how many hours were logged since, well, the bulb is dead.

Obviously this projector is just a tad over 2 years old. Are Epson Good Guys, or will they stick to the warranty? Certainly in their rights to do so, of course.

Anyway, I ordered what was labeled an Epson-made bulb but the dealer canceled my order - no reason specified. To get up and going I just ordered a PureGlare replacement through Sears; I've read various reviews from "love them" to "piece of junk that may explode". Any advice on the ones specifically made for the 8350? My thought is that it's cheap enough that I can use it for a backup and I'll order a "real" bulb for hopefully longer-term use.

Still a bit disappointing that this particular consumable is both expensive and fraught with early failure. Any news on alternative replacement lamps that do better than the Epson OEM?

Thanks!

I would also like to know. ^^

My picture is getting a tad dim on my 8350 and it's at 2300 hours approx.. I'm about to order an OEM replacement...I haven't heard anything good about 3rd party replacements.
