Sony KDL-32L5000 Display Issue

Having an issue that seems to "ghost" & scroll the image on the screen.

Issue affects menu also when no signal is being input.

Picture shows snapshot of what's happening (weird angle, sorry).

Thoughts as to what the problem is?

Any help would be great. I was thinking T-Con, but I don't know really anything about this stuff...

If the menus are affected as well - it is most likely T-CON board. I am not familiar with that TV; the T-CON could be integral part of the whole LCD panel... if you are not experienced with “that stuff” – call Sony and ask for authorised service centre closest to where you live. If you know someone who knows something about that stuff, cleaning contacts between AV processor board and T-CON board (as well as other contacts) + checking voltage rails, doing visual inspection and spraying a bit of freeze spray is always a good starting point...

Good luck, I hope it's not the panel...

Unfortunately, I can take one look at either the model number or the set and know what the problem is as I have seen many of these in our shop. This set has a bad panel. I wouldn't even bother taking it in. They will charge you just to have a tech look at it and tell you the same thing. I am pretty sure that there are no more panels available for this set. There may be substitute panels in which case, you would have to have an alternate main board, LVDS cable, and inverter cable. In other words, a new tv.
I hope that you do contact Sony customer relations about this. I believe they should step up and offer at least some concession ($$$) on these models as all have or will have the same costly defect. Sony will probably tell you to take it to an authorised service center for diagnosis but as I said, I would not do so unless they agree to pay for it.
If you do call Sony on this, please post back on what they say.
Sorry for the bad news and good luck with Sony!

I was given this TV (it's out of warranty), so I really don't want to put much into it--as I'm sure Sony service would cost $200-300+

I figured the T-Con only cost about 30-40 on the used market, so it's not an expensive shot at fixing it... the panel, however, I may just part the TV out for the boards I know work.

Thanks!

The T-con is not part of the panel on this model.

I don't know how many of these you have had in your shop, but that is deffinatly a T-con issue. I have yet to have to replace a panel for that, unless the T-con was not available. Now if it was only effecting part of the display then yes I would agree with you, because that would be a Tab issue.

Well, we'll find out soon enough. Replacement T-Con should be here tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed...

T-Con swapout didn't work... :-\\

Is it at all possible it's the main board? Or are you guys fairly sure it's more the screen?

Hey darstr, you seem to be pretty good at looking up part numbers. Almost as good as my trained monkey!

Sorry it didn't work out mgitlin. Like I mentioned before, I wouldn't put any more time or money into this set. It needs a panel.
