Does anyone know how I get the 'Collection Number" field to appear in the MyMovies index (on the Title screen)? The tag eg 1234 appears in the MyMovies.xml file in the folder containing the movie and I want to use that info in the dune customizable My Movies Default.xml file (The file the generates the Title info screen in the index). If I substitute say ProductionYear with the CollectionNumber tag, just as a test, that doesnt work (the ProductionYear just disappears), so obviously the CollectionNumber data is not available to the template. Anyone know how to get it to be available for use in the template or is that part of the system that is outside of user customizatioin?

Excuse me because this is probably a really dumb question but, does MM require a PC to be running or does it load on the server? I don't have a Cat5 connected computer in my house. I will connect my laptop temporarily to load all my media. My other computer (also wi-fi connected) is in one of my HTs and is too load to remain on during movie watching. I am just jumping into the streaming world. I have placed an order for a Synology DS1511+ w/five 3tb drives and a Dune D1. I am trying to figure out some kind of interface for the system and it looks like MM is really cool. Thanks.

I don't believe MM will work on a Synology. The server install they have is for Windows Home Server

MM runs on a Windows PC but for Dune, it does not need to be running all the time. It creates the index files which the Dune browses, and those index files can go on any kind of file server that the Dune can access. You run MM again whenever you update your library and it will update the index files.

I finally updated MyMovies to 3.18 (from 3.17). It scanned through all my library. I manually deleted the old Dune index ("My Movies" dir) and forced an update.

Ten minutes later it was done, but the "All Titles" directory only has about 25 of my 200+ movies. What happened to the rest?

The .DuneTitles directory has a subdirectory for each of my movies. The ones that appear in "All Titles" have the expected TitleStructure and PlaybackFolder directories. The ones that are not in "All Titles" do not have either of those.

There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason about which of the movies work and which ones don't.

Anybody else seen this? Suggested solutions?

Update to 3.19.PR4 and try again. All versions before this one were buggy with Dune folder creation.

BTW... do a database back-up before you upgrade so in case you want to go back you can. Updating will kill the database to previous versions.

I have a database backup that I made with 3.17.

I attempted to revert from 3.18 back to 3.17 via WinXP System Restore, but that failed for unspecifed reasons. I also restored my "C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\My Movies" directory from a backup taken when running 3.17.

I reinstalled 3.17, but it won't launch at all, says my database is from a newer version. True -- but I can't get to the menu to restore the old database from the backup! Argh! This is a design flaw.

So I installed 3.19PR4, but it just locks up when I launch it. Gets past the splash screen, opens a blank window and freezes up. I suspect it's related to my half-screwed-up installs and restores described above.

I had to install "SQL Server Management Studio Express" and manually delete the database, then reinstall 3.17.

Finally I am back up and running with 3.17.

Moral of the story: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Perhaps I will try 3.19PR4 again now that I'm an expert at undoing it.

I am thinking about running MM Collection Manager for a synology.
do the titles need to have a specific naming format or will the collection manager recognize them based on the size of the files?

also is there such a thing as an automatic disk copier for the collection manager or is that for WHS only?

There are several ways to add new titles to Collection Manager, but by filename is not one of them. You can enter the barcode from the box, put the disc in your drive to identify it, or manually key in the title. After that you'll have to identify the movie's file/folder in a file browser window. Repeat for each title.

Pretty sure that is WHS only.

Well, in fairness you can have it scan your folders and it will do it's best to identify them based on the name.

having some issues with MM Collection Manager and Dune H1 and would appreciate any help.

my setup:
rip movies from a PC to a Synology 1511. keep the index file on the synology.
under Dune index location, i used X drive, which is where my PC mapped the synology
under path configuration, it does not allow me to configure for an SMB or NFS share, only allows me to configure for networked drive

i can see the MM file on my dune, when i click on a movie cover it says that it cannot open the share ///smb/se7en/se7en.iso is an example of what the error message says, so not going into my synology it looks like.

however if i go into the file with the movie itself, the iso plays fine

also there are a couple extra files in the folders that dont appear like they belong

Don't map to the X drive, but instead the UNC path. From the Dune's standpoint the X drive means nothing. SO for example, your path should be:

\\\\SynologyServer\\Videos (or whatever your path is)

Thats a pretty limiting feature if it does not do it by filename?!

I have hundreds of movies ripped. It would take days if not weeks if i had to do barcodes or manual entry of titles.

I can't remember if CM looks at the filename or foldername. Whenever I copy movies over to my server CM has no issues picking them up correctly without any need for manually inputting anything. Why do you need filename though, with MyMovies each movie needs to be in its own folder, so wouldn't your folder name be the correct movie name?

My bad, I forgot about folder monitoring. I guess it does look at filenames that way.

in MyMovies you need to set the share path for every place where you have movies. Iirc it's under Tools Options Metadata Dune.

My folder and file name are typically exactly the same so i'm covered.

Damian - with the upcoming TV coverage, would you now say MyMovies is a better option than Zappiti?

On the movie description page that MM generates, there is an icon for aspect ratio.

Why does the 1.78:1 aspect ratio icon show small black bars on the left and right, and the 1.85:1 aspect ratio icon shows no black bars?

Widescreen TVs are 16:9 which is 1.78:1. The 1.78:1 icon should have no black bars, and the 1.85:1 icon should have small black bars at the top and bottom.

First thing worth mentioning, TV Show support for the Dune won't be available in MyMovies until most likely the public release at the end of this month (so it is not available in the current Pre Release). Until this is released for the Dune it is hard to make any comparisons against Zappiti (since I would need to actually use MyMovies w/ TV Show support on the Dune first).

TV Show Support for Dune should hopefully be available at the public release later this month

UGH!!! No Dune support yet?!?! I upgraded to 2,500 points just so I could beta test it thinking that Dune support would be on it from day one.

That is what I get for assuming that.
Since I no longer use MCE at all and after looking at some of the limitations and bug list I think I will keep using 3.19PR4 until they have a version that supports TV episodes on the Dune. According to Brian it may or may not show up during the pre-release or it may wait till it reaches 4.10.

Hi guys,

I decided to give MyMovies another try. One issue that I'm having is that the aspect ratio shows up in the collection management software correct - e.g. 2.35:1 but all movies show up as 1.78:1 on the database created by MyMovies that the Dune accesses. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to remedy this?

Also, it seems to identify all my Blu-Ray ISOs as DVDs when I import a folder. When I go in to individually fix them it picks up the blu-ray correctly but when I import a folder it treats everything as a DVD. Is there a setting that I've missed?

Okay guys,

Since I read this entire thread, and still have not Idea how to make MM do what I want, I figure I'll ask for help. I Installed MM for WMC and loaded a bunch of movies onto a 3TB WD drive located in the dune. The index is located on the drive attached to the dune, and everything works fine.

NOW, since the #Tb drive cannot fit all of my movies, I have a PC with another 3Tb drive that has the rest of my movies. I am one of the unlucky people with Win7 that cannot get the Dune player to recognize the PC using the SMB browser, but when I create a network folder using the dune, I am able to access the contents of the folder (located on my PC) just fine.

My question, is how do I configure MM to monitor both the 3TB drive in the dune player as well as the 3TB drive on the PC at the same time? I need to know where the index should be located, as well as how the path needs to be configured to the network folder(s). I know I may sound like an idiot, but I would really appreciate it if someone would take the time to try and walk me through this. Thanks, guys!

I don't use folder monitoring, so I'll let someone else answer that part of your question.

You can put the MM-generated index anywhere. I recommend you keep it on the Dune HDD because browsing a local HDD is faster than browsing over network.

Once the movies are in the MM database, go to MM's Dune metadata config screen. You should see two paths listed. Each will have either a green checkbox or a red X. I assume the path to your Dune HDD has already been correctly set.

Click first on the path to your PC's drive. Then click the "Configure Path" button. Enter the URL that the Dune uses to access this drive. Something like:
Code:
smb://servername/sharename/
The servername and sharename are the same values you entered on the Dune when you set up the manual network folder.

[Hmm... I'm not certain this will work. I don't store any movies on the same PC that I run MM on, so I'm not sure how it deals with local disks. Wouldn't it somehow need to know the path of the share?]

Well, it seems my celebration was a little premature. I'm still having the same issue. Basically I can select the movie details for 6-10 movies before it stops working. Let me explain again. The index is on a thumb drive on the back of my D1. I can access it and navigate the thumbnail view without fail. All submenus (genre, year, etc.) work. When I click on a thumbnail I get to the movie detail page and can then launch the movie without issue. The problem is when I'm going back and forth between the movie detail view and the thumbnail view, like when I'm trying to pick something I want to watch. After I've viewed the movie details of 6-10 movies, I can no longer access the movie detail view. Rather, clicking on a thumbnail takes me to the blank blue Dune background. Clicking the back button gets me back into the thumbnail view, but I can only go back and forth between the thumbnail view and the Dune background at that point. I cannot view any movie details or launch any movies. Setting the D1 to standby and back fixes the issue, which returns after another 6-10 title selections.

I have just over 900 movies in my collection. But I haven't heard of this issue before and surely there are people with many more movies than I have. Any thoughts?

I'm running one of the IP firmware editions, have to check which one when I get home. Not sure if this was an issue with the stock firmware, but I hope that's not the problem because I'm loving Dune remote and I am anxiously awaiting the ability to launch movies from the My Movies iPhone app. Thanks for any ideas.

The latest stable firmware (dated Feb 25 I think?) has IP control. You might want to try it to see if it's been fixed. I haven't heard of this problem.

Okay, that's good news. I really didn't want to give up IP control. I'll try it and get back to you.

Can anyone with a movie library over 900 confirm that they do not have a similar problem?

The MyMovies iPad app updated today and added Dune Remote control support. I am not sure if it has the capability to launch a movie directly from your collection yet. Does anyone know? I am getting the following message when I hit Play on any movie from my Collection.

I already asked him the same question on the MyMovies forum so we are waiting for a response from Brian.
