I am noticing that when I stop a movie with the iPad app and start to play it again it does not start from the last place. Also is there a way to use bookmarks with the dune? I can start and stop with the dune remote and it will start up from the last place. Just not the iPad app. Also is there a way to add another icon to the my movies screen? I want to make one up for 3D movies?

I believe that feature is lost when IP control is used. If I start a movie from the MyMovies GUI screen on the Dunes then resume feature is there but when I start a movie from any IP controlled GUI then the resume feature is gone....must be some sort of memory feature only available to on-screen GUI.

No the problem was solved in the post above yours. Adding a 3D icon to the screen would be considered an improvement.

I wonder if this is something that can be fixed with FW update as Dune is saying they are going to do a little more with my movies!

dune is saying they are going to do something with MyMovies ? where did you see that ?

When I was at CES this year (setup/tear out) where I picked up my dune, Mike the US rep told me this. In fact he introduced me to the guy behind my movies!

You met Brian?

FYI - I have heard the same thing about Dune and My movies

Yes it was a quick meet when he stopped over at the dune booth, I was over there on lunch break. He was talking to a few other people.

Cool, sounds like you had quite a Dune CES trip!!!

I have spoken to Brian periodically via IM, he's a good guy.

hoho...

and suddenly they decide to open a new sub-forum for dune users.

I hope something nice is going to happen. MM as an enormous potential for dune, but the lack of support from the team (mainly because they have other priorities) made it a N°3 after Yadis and Zappiti while they could easily be N°1 if they really take care about dune.

Completely agreed. Will have to keep an eye out on that sub forum

that's really strange, because when you listen to CHristophe from HDLAND/Zappiti he always says that HDI wants to use zappiti as a key selling point for their media player. May be the latest zappiti fiasco and the downward spiral in terms of stability made HDI look for another software. Obviously, being on the market for quite a long time, with a very good internal DB, and also having real technical resources (the MM guys are real pros) might have been a key factor for HDI to look into a new partner.

Who knows, MM might be Dune HD Pro embedded ? (doesn't sound so stupid if you think about their Disc ID tracking system...)

What sub-forum? And when I first met Mike one of the questions was does dune have a jukebox? At that time I had not owned or even used a dune! He said he uses my movies and that dune was going to be doing some great stuff with Brian. This is supposed to be something in 2012 and I'm sure it's going to start with the pro! I talked a friend of mine into getting the HiMedia 900. Which suit his needs right now....but I can't stop talking about the dune. It's like a Honda civic vs a Porsche 911

they just opened this week-end a dedicated sub-forum for dune on the official MM forums :

In general MM is much more polished from its user community, servers, and App. Also, don't forget that MM supports both Android and iOS (All HDLand would say about Android is that they will wait and see how the iOS App does first). I think MM and Dune make a natural fit (whether it be a MM embedded UI or if somehow the MM metadata is allowed to be used by a supported 3rd party to develop/integrate into the Dune).

Ahhh yes I remember some one suggesting this on the my movies forum! Cool! Also Brian's sticky post states since Dune's integration is moving forward they set up the sub forum

metadatas can already be accessed by third party soft through the MM API. They already opened it to xbmc users (didn't we talked about xbmc in the next sigma chipset generation ?). That's a 2500 points feature or 25$ for a lifetime use with unlimited scrap.

Correct, 2500 points. I set it up when I was testing XBMC but haven't really looked at closer. Previously you wouldn't even need to go this route, just make a jukebox read the locally stored metadata/art that MM saves. However, on the metadata front you can't do this anymore since mymovies.xml is encrypted.

I also think it becomes an interesting debate if you have a jukebox integrated into a media player that requires some form of payment to use fully
post #711 of 939
well, if it's to be integrated in a dune Pro, I think HDI can afford to "offer" the 25$ access to the API when you are going to buy a +1500$ player (and it might even cost less than 25$ for system builders...)

I would definitely hope.

I know some people are hoping for an integrated jukebox for the Dune Smarts as well (you know, most of us who won't spend $2k plus on a media player lol). I honestly have mixed feeling about an integrated jukebox. It is not a bad option to have but if a company is going to do it, do it right from the start (i.e I would say Boxee Box was the best example and PCH via NMJ was the worst, but a start nonetheless)

Hey, I need some advice from you guys that are experienced. We are planning on using MyMovies and several Dune players as part of our whole-house audio/video distribution system. We are planning on a shared library for the media files which will serve the Dune players, and the library will be good-sized, perhaps 20 TB. What kind of file server system should we use?
Thanks - this may have been answered somewhere else but I couldn't figure out the right keywords to use in the search!

For your server do you basically want a plug n play or something that you can build yourself? For plug n play I would recommend Synology which from the people I know who use they always have great things to say.

I currently have a DIY Windows Home Server (26TB) which streams to 2 Dunes, 2 PCHs, HTCPs, etc... in my house. However, the new version of WHS I wouldn't recommend, so on the DIY front you may want to look at UnRAID

I would assume at that size you would want to have some sort of fault tolerance.

We will build our own... and it appears the files are served via the network. Are there any multiple controller esata farms?

For my Windows Home Server I have to SATA controller cards and one eSATA controller card. The two SATA controller cards connect to 16 hard drives (8 each) in my case. The eSATA card I haven't needed to use yet but if I needed to expand I would connect an external eSATA enclosure (such as a Sans Digital TR8M). Given that USB 3.0 seems to be gaining some traction I would probably be more likely to look at USB 3.0 instead of eSATA (since you can find motherboards with USB 3.0 but most motherboards that have eSATA are not port multiplier aware)

Lots of us use UnRaid.

I was thinking more along the lines of something like the Dell PowerVault disk farm that allows multiple computers to connect to the same disk farm (disks) by installing an additional communicator card for each computer wanting to talk to the farm. So if I had four Dunes... I could attach the farm to each dune viathe eSATA port on the back... and each Dune sees it like it were it's own drive set.

IP/ethernet file serving from one computer (like a WHS) to other computers is ok for smaller systems, but does have it's problems as the data volume grows (eg latency).
OH YES! Positive on the RAID/ fault tolerance BTW!!!. We don't want to lose our whole collection to save a few cents. We currently have a MS Small Business Server set up with RAID for our house/ business (we are an MS OEM) and it works flawlessly...

eSata has a maximum cable length of 2 meters. Ethernet is designed for this kind of distribution and it works fine with multiple Dunes, provided the server can keep up.

I'm not an enterprise file server expert but the kind of thing you're talking about sounds like severe overkill for sending video to four Dunes. From an enterprise perspective, this is a smaller system. (Very small, even.)
