Need to be confirmed but the esata connector on the dune is proprietary and reserved for the extensions. You can't use it to connect something else.

Agreed. Why make it more difficult then it needs to be? You have a server which connects to your Dunes via ethernet (and you probably have a switch in there as well).

Yeah you are making this way too hard. Good nas solution (unread, whs, whatever) and cat5e or cat6 everywhere. Works fine.

By the way, this discussion doesn't have anything to do with MyMovies so doesn't belong on this thread. I recommend HardForum where they would drool over themselves to discuss this kind of system!

(And P.S.: RAID is not backup!)

I'm good with that answer as long as we don't get $$$ into basic IP file serving/ server and find out the file server can't keep up.

You're right, it shouldn't be this hard.

You might want to try Cygwin+rsync command-line. If you can get that installed I can help you much more than I can with DeltaCopy.

Okay, here's where I am. I have installed the .dll file you provided onto one of my D1s successfully. I have installed Cygwin on my Vista based server along with what I think is the rsync package. I've launched Cygwin on my server desktop and the blinking cursor that's staring back at me was expecting to be greeted by someone more prepared to tell it what to do next. Sadly, I have no idea what to do at the command line, but I'm hoping you can fill in the blanks.

I'm totally committed to getting this to work.

You will need to refer to the rsync man page, which unfortunately is not the most accessible document. Also I've recently updated my Updating Dune Index page.

First, make sure rsync is installed properly on both the PC and the Dune by using it to list the Dune storage:
Code:
rsync rsync://192.168.1.94/
Substitute the Dune's actual IP address, of course. This should list all the storage devices that are attached to the Dune,

Second, you should try rsyncing to a local directory. The first time, it will copy the entire index to a new location. Then change something in one movie in MyMovies, and rerun rsync. It should copy only a few files. Get this all working on a local directory before you use it on the Dune index. (Especially since a typo can easily lead to the entire index being deleted.)

Code:
rsync --verbose --recursive --delete --times "My Movies/" mmcopy
Once it's all working to your satisfaction, replace mmcopy with the rsync:// url.

Back to the dune integration of MM it would be nice to be able to configure the button on the remote with the dune symbol to just start MM!

Well, I'm going to keep at this publically on the chance that other people are following along and trying to do the same thing. First, from the command prompt, I was able to successfully test the first step above. It does, in fact, return the only attached storage on my test D1. So next, I attempted to copy the index to a local folder as above. Copying the above code into the command prompt gives me the error "rsync: change_dir "/home/Travis//My Movies" failed: No such file ore directory (2) (plus some other stuff). Clearly there's more too it, so I read over your updated index page which had some good new information and I laughed at the rsync main page because I remembered trying to read that about 6 months ago and I'm no closer to understanding it now than I was then. After a full hour of trying to create a folder called mmcopy (for lack of a better name anyway) and trying to put a copy of the index somwhere usable, I've seen a dozen other error messages but no success. So, after you've removed your palm from your face as you realize the level of programming knowledge I bring to the table, I'm hoping you'll fill in just a few more baby steps. I really appreciate your help with this.

Lets say I have a copy of the MM index on my desktop. And I have a folder called mmcopy on my desktop. And I'm trying to get the contents of MMindex over to mmcopy. What would the command line look like? Or another way to ask it, if I input:
Code:
rsync --verbose --recursive --delete --times "My Movies/" mmcopy
where is it looking for My Movies and mmcopy?

Any command prompt will always have the notion of a current directory. In this case it's /home/travis (to Cygwin, at least...). Use 'cd' to change directory to wherever your MyMovies directory is. It might be as simple as:

Code:
cd Desktop
And then run rsync. You should not need to manually create the mmcopy directory; rsync will create it the first time it (successfully) runs.

It might be best to take this to PM and post a followup here once you get everything working.

Well, understanding the directory it was looking for helped a lot. Though I haven't yet been successful at changing the directory to where the My Movies index was, I was able to move the index to the default directory and run rsync. In this case, it created a whole new folder mmcopy that was an exact duplicate. I'm now updating the My Movies index after adding a movie, and then I'll run rsync again and see what happens. If it works, I'll point it to the D1 and post an update, good or bad. Thanks again!

I added another drive to my Dune Duo, my question is I have the index setup on the first HDD when I start adding movies to the other HDD do I need to put an index on that drive too? Or can I just point to the new HDD?

Just point your new movies to your new drive. This will add a new path to configure in your dune metadata config window.

I'm using My Movies on the DUNE and while I can filter out watched movies using CM I don't see anywhere on the DUNE to pickup this filter. Hopefully I'm just missing something?

The Dunes does not have this feature since the GUI is static and not dynamic (meaning it cannot be changed via the GUI itself.)

Killroy,

It doesn't necessarily have to be dynamic although that would be better.

I have marked all the watched movies using CM or with the Android App. What I need is for the index to contain this bit of meta-data and provide a filter or group that I can select for unwatched movies. That can't be all that difficult. I've only got a couple of hundred movies on my server but most have been watched.

I don't know how those of you with thousands of films keep this filtered but I'd see that as a nightmare.

That would work on the app itself since the app can deal with the metadata and the status change...but if you want this to happen in the Dune's GUI it would have to change the graphic on the GUI which would require an actual file deletion or file change that has to be done via the network.

MyMovie's Brian already discussed this on the MM forum and said that the way the Dune's GUI is developed it would require and extensive amount of work to develop this and there is no way that he could see this happening on the on-screen GUI for the Dune. On the app it is something completely different but it also requires some dynamic work that he was not sure it could be done.

I got the distinct feeling that he pretty much was saying forget about a "Watched" status for the Dune.

Yeah, got the same impression.

I think with the PCH there is a Watched Indicator type App, but it only works if you are using attached storage. Hopefully as these chips progress and get more powerful/capable, we an finally get more dynamic players. I am also interested to see what W8 ARM brings to the table.

Will as Mike indicated Dune is supposed to be doing a little more integration with MM. Hopefully this happens!

So is this more of a DUNE limitation or a My Movies limitation? Is this an issue with all the other Video Jukeboxs?

I can only attest to the Dunes and yes it is a Dune software (firmware) limitation. Not sure about the other players.

Dune limitation, not My Movies.

Scott, thanks again for all your rsync instructions. I got it up and working tonight although not quite how I intended. I have 2 USB sticks. The first one I set up as the system storage. I thought I would be able to dump the files there, but when I run rsync the only storage I can see is the second USB stick which is just a FAT formatted 2GB stick. Ultimately that worked but I would prefer to only have to use 1 USB stick . Any advice? Also the name of the USB storage is bizzare...

U2G_X806_3c7a_2ded Dune storage named U2G_X806_3c7a_2ded

Correct, system storage will not show up. Since the Dune can't browse system storage files through its GUI it wouldn't make sense to put your index there.

If you have a stick that is over 2GB then you can partition it into 2GB system storage and the remainder for the index. See dune_service_af_make_sstorage_and_ext3_on_pen.dsf.

As for the name of the storage, it's indeed bizarre unless you put a storage_name=Foo in the root dune_folder.txt. If this storage is going to be only for the MyMovies index, you can edit the "My Movies Defaults.xml" (iirc) file to add this to the root dune_folder.txt that it creates.

I changed the folder.text for the new HDD to storage=HDD2 so now on the home screen I have HDD1 and HDD2

I just try to setup mymovie OSX version with Dune HD! I just found a guide for the windows Version.

Question: Is this option only available for the Windows Version? If yes, is it planed to port this to the OSX version.

I only want to use the iPad application and start movies from iPad. Maybe somebody can help me in regards this.??

Thanks
Cheers
Shepardos

OSX version doesn't include the dune export system. It's on the roadmap but without a date...Currently OSX version is only for collection management purpose.
