I gave it praises too soon.
I had taken others's input that the Dune would auto switch frame rates and that they could change the mode on the fly. I'm not seeing that.
I tried a DVD tonight, standard rip, VIDEO_TS folder. The Dune did NOT do what it should. It output 1080i, so it was up-scaling at least. My Lumagen can definitely do a better job on up-scaling 480i content.
So I tried to coax it to 480i. Figured to press "Mode , 3". But when playing a DVD, the Mode command didn't work. Made it popup a deinterlace and field order(?) option toggle instead.
I exited back to the meta screen and tried a mode command there. That made it start the movie. Not good.
I exited all the way back to a covers screen, pressed "mode" mode there and I got the mode pop-up, selected 480i. Started playing the DVD. VP reported 480i which I thought was good, even though it took a lot to get it there.
But alas, the DVD image was letter boxed (had a vertical squeeze applied). Which means it is a) broken, and b) going through the Dune's scaler anyway.
I thought the Dune was supposed to auto switch frame rates? I have 1080p24, 1080i60, and 480i sources. It's definitely not switching between those. And 480i output appears to be broken. Damn damn damn. So close.Edited by GetGray - 9/18/12 at 8:49pm
