We just got the upgrade the other day in Morris County NJ. Not bad! Not Tivo but not bad so far.

I am planning a 2tb add-on and I'll let you know how it goes...

Not gr8 either! The only real benefits are the capacity to hook-up an eSATA & the "Native Pass-Through" feature, other than that, the guide color scheme is wack! And the info bar is too big, of course a quick depress of the 'exit' does away with that.

The new color scheme, mainly powder blue / white, is terrible, there's no contrast with this, big time eye strain. now 'royal' blue or any darker blue would've been better, but not light blue / white...................

I know this unit has 2 independent tuners. Will they allow me to switch between them and watch 2 shows independently and in real time, like Tivo? If so, how?

Yes, tune in one station, then the other. To switch between them, just press the "Last" button on the remote (middle , right side)

No 1.9 hasn't rolled out in our area yet. VHO4 = Northern VA, MoCo, HoCo, PGCo, etc. We are last to get 1.9. Last, like always.

And how do you know this? Is it written somewhere?

What does last mean? Sometime in 2012 (which would really stink)?

I asked in an earlier thread if this STB can emulate the TIVO 2 tuner functionality and was told that I should just hit "last" to go to the other tuner.

But the two tuners DO NOT function truly independent of each other. Each channel change also changes what channel is on the other tuner and changes the "last" channel. There is NO SEPERATE channel surfing in each tuner.

CAN these two tuners function independently like a Tivo or no?
If nothing is recording hitting "Last" swaps between both tuners.

I promised to report when I added an external drive.

I had a relatively new 1tb WD "My Book" with esata that I was storing Blu-Ray's on so I cleared it and pluged it in. All it did was reboot the STB every 5 minutes. I know that it is the Intellipark energy saving setup but I didn't feel like going through the DOS prompt with WDIDLE3 to get rid of it.

I didn't want another WD drive because of that so I bought the Seagate 2TB at Best Buy for $90. I loaded it into a Vantec enclosure and plugged it in.

It worked flawlessly.

But if you don't want to bother with all that, just get the WD Video Extender that is VZ certified. It is 1tb for about $120 and it is simple plug and play.

So, 2TB works. Anyone want to try the 3TB?

ALSO, the two tuners on this unit DO NOT operate independently like the TIVO. Hitting the "last" button gives you just that. NO seperate and equal tuner. Anyone know differently?

You certainly can record two different programs at the same time.
Huh?

1. Pause Live TV
2. Hit last
3. Pause Live TV
4. Hit Last
5. Hit Last
6. Hit Last

Last swaps between both tuners and you will see them both paused.

No. You're not getting it.

For Tivo, each tuner operates independent and each can surf on their own without interacting/interfearing with the other tuner.

So if I'm on tuner 1 on channel 705, it stays on 705 even when I go to the second tuner and surf multiple channels on tuner 2. I can hit "last" on tuner 2 and it will go to the last channel tuned on tuner 2 without changing anything on tuner 1.

When I then go to tuner 1, it is still on channel 705 and I can surf independently without interfereing with what is going on on tuner 2.

With the VZ/MOT box, if you change any channel, and hit "last", you go to the last station tuned and the "other tuner" changes to that station. It DOES NOT operate independently. Each time I hit "last" I go to "last" on EITHER tuner

I'm sure TIVO calls it something proprietary but I'm hoping that the VZ box knows how to do this!!!

I am trying to get a Seagate 3TB within an Antec MX-1 esata enclosure to work with no luck. This is the only drive I've tried so far. It works when plugged into an esata port on a Win7 computer.

When I selected "enable storage" the STB reboots and gives a message upon boot that I can accept or reject the new drive and all data will be erased. Once i select accept, nothing else happens and there is no indications in the menus or when recording that the external drive is there. Not sure what to do next...

Fios support says to try a recommended drive....

Update
I had a Hitachi 2TB drive sitting around so I decided to try it in my MX-1 enclosure. It worked like a charm. So, either my particular Seagate drive is not compatible OR the 7232 cannot accept > 2 TB.
3tb's are tricky I think.

Go to "Recorder Status". You should see tabs for two drives; "Local Drive" and "External Drive". If you do, you're golden.
I see what you mean. I will report this as it should work as you are saying but it clearly it is not.

When you say, it should work, do you mean as of 1.9?

Unless it is a feature they added in 1.9, the FiOS DVR doesn't work that way. We had this discussion at length here and on DSLReports when the ability to buffer two stations was implemented. The IMG, unless changed as part of the latest update, only supports swapping between 2 channels, 1 on each tuner so that both of which are buffered assuming nothing is recording. The last button swaps between the 2 channels. You don't get a "last" on each tuner, which would give you the ability to in essence swap between 4 channels, 2 of which would be buffered (1 on each tuner).

Seems like it would take another button though--a SWAP button. Then you would swap between tuners and use the last button to access the last channel on THAT tuner.

I would love to see this implemented.

This is speaking for the Moto box. I don't have a Cisco box. Maybe IMG operates like this on those boxes?

It used to work under 1.7 as desired. 1.8 and or 1.9 for certain has changed the way Last functions.

I have sent this on the the IMG team. We'll see what happens.

On Tivo it is called the "Live TV" button.

I'm glad that you finally got it!

Now, if you have the "juice", lets see you get it fixed!
Not sure whom you are referring to since you don't quoute... But if it is me. I doubt it.

I was told it never worked the way we want it to even in 1.7. With all the issues in 1.9 I suppose it is a back burner one.

I had verizon fios since 2005. Until recently all I had was cable cards to work with my tivos. I recently switched to the whole house dvr and was given a 7232 and 2 7100s. I actually picked them up at the retail store in oxnard california. A dreadful place but at least had them in stock and gave them to me no questions asked. I have an esata hard drive that I use to use on my tivo attached and get plenty of room for recordings. That is nice to have but the boxes themselves are no honeymoon. As with all other STBs they have their drawbacks. IMG 1.9 makes them pretty but I would like them better except for the frequent pixelation and audio hiccups.
Interesting. I'm getting pixelation with QIP7232 and I have a 2tb external drive.

? pixelation can happen either way, with or without an external hard drive, of which the capacity of hd has nothing to do with it whatsoever......

Has anyone in the greater Washington DC area (DC/VA/MD) received 1.9 yet? I'm in No. VA and haven't gotten it yet, unfortunately.

I just got an email yesterday announcing the changes and referring to channel 131 that described them. Coincidentally, also yesterday as I was talking to Verizon about my bill before having seen the email I asked them if they knew when 1.9 would hit the DC area. After the rep checked with several people, he said they really have no way of knowing when it will happen.

So one arm of the organization sends out emails about it, the other arm has no clue an email was even sent or is eminent! Not surprising!

But clearly, since they did sent the email out just yesterday, I would expect the change to occur very soon.

Has anyone else in the DC area received an email about 1.9 coming soon? I have not received an email about it, but I'm hopeful that it won't be too much longer. I'm already hoping to get a good deal on a 2TB external hard drive with eSATA on Black Friday.
