You do know that you cant go CIH in 3D with these first generation projectors, right? It will work in 2D fine, but there are no re-sizing controls when a 3D source is detected.

You can mount the lens/slide in front of the PJ directly to the ceiling/shelf, or you can use the attachment plate that Panamorph sells. The plate will set you back $500-$600 IIRC, so it depends on how elegant of a solution you want. However as long as you align the lens with the projector lens properly, there's generally no need for an attachment plate.


If he has a Lumagen XE he will be able to But even barring CIH capability in 3D, there's not a lot of 'scope stuff out there in 3D, and even less that's worth watching. The 3D thing would certainly not be enough to dissuade me from going CIH.

I would strongly suggest mounting the UH480 lens to the ceiling separately from the projector. The lens is heavy, and significantly changes the center of gravity of the projector such that, in my case, it became far more sensitive to the vibrations of family members walking about above my theater room.

This is not an accurate statement. I've seen it repeated over in the RS40 thread and it's simply not true.

Of the current 3D BD titles ~50% are scope (2.35 or 2.40), the next 25% are 1.85 and the remainder are 1.78.

Actually, according to IMDB, we're both wrong. The 3D version was released in IMAX digital at 2.00:1, only the 2D version was released in scope.


Again, the only 3D releases were IMAX (1.44:1) and 1.85:1. IMDB mentions nothing about 'scope 3D. Only 2D was 'scope.

Before anyone gets butthurt over me stating the obvious, I'm certainly not insinuating that 3D is the beginning of the end for 'scope (or anything else equallly ridiculous). I am pointing out that, although an anamorphic stretch feature is not included in any low- or mid-priced 3D projectors this generation, it's not really that big of a deal since most 3D material isn't in 'scope. If it IS that big of a deal to you, you can always get a Lumagen Radiance XE or XS, which will be able to perform all of its video processing functions (including anamorphic stretch) on all current 3D signals.

I saw both Monsters Vs Aliens (Dolby 3D) and How To Train Your Dragon (Real D) at the cinema. Both were scope, though neither used an anamorphic lens.

Although IMDB is reporting the 3D AR at 1.85:1, Blu-Ray.com is showing that both BD releases are 2.35:1. Original post has been edited.

I only give IMAX one line as it's unfair to count all of their releases - just like NatGeo will be dumping titles on the market soon - IMHO. I think this is a fairer representation, but to each his own. I didn't get into HT for watching nature movies.

No one ever said anything about theatrical releases - even you said "BD titles" in your original post. I think it's laughable that you'll include crap like Piranha and Friday the 13th Pt 3, but not any of the decent IMAX titles. I didn't get into HT to watch poor content for the sake of experiencing the novelty of 3D.
