I have an older, cheap (excellent bang per buck) system composed of an Oppo 970HD and a Panasonic XR55. Unfortunately, the Panny just bit the dust and while shopping around for receivers, the ones I am leaning towards (1120k for instance) do not have multi-channel inputs. My question is this: What is the state of the world in regards to playing my multi-channel stuff via HDMI? What do I need to look for? When I looked into it years ago, it either wasn't at all possible or my Oppo just couldn't do it. That's why I didn't concern myself with getting an HDMI receiver originally. Fast forward to now and I definitely see the benefit to single cable connections. Would I need a different player or is it still not possible? From reading on here, it appears possible, but I am not certain. What are the key words I need to look for on the spec sheets?
Thanks for any help.
