Scientific atlanta Explorer 8300hd Hacks and Mods Possibilities

See, its all well and good that people who have cable service use the 8300hd, upgrade it and all sorts of other good things to it,
What if you have box lying around, and you had no cable service,
the box cost around 700 bucks when it came out.
how can i hack it, or mod it to become a stand alone media player.

for example..

is it possible to put Linux or and other OS on it?

is it possible for the box to play regular formats like : mp3, DivX, and other goodies people download over the net.

is it possible to connect a external drive and browse materials on it, and play multiple different formats.

Help kindly...
thank you.

You can't hack or mod it.

Some cableco's allow an 8300 to use an external drive, but none of them can play multiple formats. Read this topic for details: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=471859
