New Build Problems win7

2 probs... 1st one i think is the easier fix.
my foxconn nt330i wtih atom 330, nvidia ION, 4gig DDR2, 500gig wd hd (running win7 pro x64) is giving me a coprocessor driver error. ...so i checked and apparently it doesn't have a driver.
i imagine that the reason that 720p video is playing very choppy.
i was obviously very frustrated after deciding to build a nettop in place of the popcorn hour and have everything networked over cat6 and skip and jump in a field of flowers... and then it didn't work. i know it's a process but i'm up for it.

second prob is that the desktop is too large for the tv screen. i've connected via hdmi and dvi and i can't find anything on my tv to shrink the image on the screen and i can't find anything in windows that will do it either. besides changing the resolution which obviously doesn't do that, i don't know what else to do. am i missing something?
i'm playing it on a samsung LNS4092DX.

thanks for looking.

Go to Nvidia control panel. The first thing to do would be try a different resolution. It might have autoselected the wrong one. But there's also an adjust size and position link in the control panel.

BTW, I assume you downloaded the Nvidia drivers. If not, go to Windows update and do so. If you haven't you don't have the Nvidia control panel.

For the ION series, it's best to go to nVidia and download the drivers. It's also a good idea to go to the manufacturer's website (Foxconn) to get any specific drivers.

Make sure 16:9 mode on the TV is deactivated. You want "just scan" or "screen fit".

I prefer to use Windows Update drivers because they've gone through more stability testing, especially compared to ATI's monthly drivers.

But I'm also the type that doesn't update video drivers very often. If my system is working and Windows Update indicates there's a new driver, I don't typically install it on any of my machines. I've never heard of a video driver being a security issue. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

For the ION series, the nVidia drivers are the reference drivers. ION board manufacturers don't provide any unique motherboard or video drivers - the only have drivers for onboard items that are not supported by nVidia. They are stable and have Microsoft certs; Microsoft doesn't do any additional stability testing, that's up to the manufacturer.

I don't know if Windows Update has ION drivers, but I find it extremely hard to believe that Microsoft doesn't test every driver issued through Windows Update.

Drivers only become WHQL certified after passing certification by Microsoft. Usually this is done by the manufacturer running tests and submitting the log results to Microsoft. If they choose, then then run additional tests on a bunch of different hardware. However, we the end users do not know if they approved the drivers based on the logs alone, or if they did additional testing.

For me, when it comes to motherboard and video drivers, I go to the manufacturer for the most stable versions. They are WHQL certified. Microsoft isn't always on the forefront when it comes to the best drivers.

the win update worked and the video is centered. but the coprocessor problem is still there and 720p is very choppy still. foxconn"s site wasn't all that helpful- maybe i didn't see the driver there.
has anyone had or heard of this prob?

Go here:

Download the chipset driver. Or, just click on the link below...

What is this content and what player?

On my Zotac 8200 mobo, Media Center is choppy. But the same .wtv recordings played back through the latest Media Player Classic - Home Cinema are perfect. So the choppy playback seems to be a software/codec issue in MC, rather than a driver or hardware issue. You might want to do a similar test.

I also have an nVidia 8100 mobo that plays .wtv in MC smoothly. But that system has a much more powerful dual-core CPU. It's almost as if the problem is that Media Center is not using GPU hardware acceleration.

i've tried that one and it won't let me because it's x32. i'm running x64. what can i do?
btw-i use VLC. it should handle everything. it does on my other builds.
Does VLC support hardware acceleration now? If not, that's probably the source of your problems when playing HD files. Try switching to a player that supports hardware acceleration such as MPC HomeCinema.

The Atom is pretty anemic and and it's not really the best option if you plan on going with software decoding. Either Athlon II X2 or Celeron/Pentium Wolfdale would be much better options.

I would try different settings, like Aero on and off (probably on) and using Nvidia or application settings on things like color, etc. (for me it's using application settings).

Edit: Not sure if you can run Aero with an Atom processor.
