Black spot on Samsung DLP (HL-S5087W)

Had this TV for 4 years with no problem other than replacing the bulb a few months ago. The other day a black spot appeared on the right side of the the size of a baseball. It's not completly black as you can kinda make out the picture through the spot if the image is fairly bright. Does anyone know what this might be? I've read somewhere that this kinda thing may be dust but not sure how to clean that off if it is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just had a similar problem pop up out of nowhere on my DLP. My issue is a light GREY spot at the top of the screen. I am thinking that it is just a dust bunny or perhaps a small bug or something. Problem is the same as yours as i cannot seem to find instructions on how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

I seriously think it's dust. I've seen the spot move when I first turn the TV on and it's actually gotten smaller today. I've got a service tech coming out next week to take a look. I may just open it up and try and look for lenses to clean with compressed air. If you can hold out I can get back to you after I or the service tech fixes it. May save you a 95 buck service call.

Tech came out and said it was the dmd board I believe. Part is 650 and another 250 in labor. Looks like I'll be upgrading my TV. I guess 5 years out of the set isn't too bad. Still kinda sucks. Wish I could do it myself.

Hard to believe it's the dmd board. I say take it apart. Find a service manual first on the internet.

If it was the dmd board the edge of the blob would be sharp, imho, and maybe even pixellated. I say critter.
