The NEW Gaming Headset/Headphone Topic! (REQUEST STICKY PLZ) - Page 52

i notice a difference (albeit not huge) on my LCD (47", 1080p)....

but i'm with SAL.... VGA is either the best, or near identical to HDMI, both of which look slightly better than component.

I can't tell. I switched them alot also. But my eyes might not be as finally tuned. But you are asking about both hdmi and componet over 720p? I see a difference on 720p and 1080p on movies. But my xbox is set to 720p via componet cuz that didn't prove any different to me.

The 2310 has component input so you can run the component video and optical audio to the receiver and then optical out to the mix amp. Problem solved unless there is some mysterious need to use HDMI only...

Well, I prefer less cables, but the main issue is I'd have to buy a 20ft optical and extensions for the component, because my 360 is that far from my receiver. I have a 20ft HDMI cable from monoprice connecting it right now.

Could somebody please explain to me how the hell FOUR major sites can be sold out of this goddamn headset all at once!?!?

Yeah guess I thought you had the xbox close like alot of ppl. Why not try that mod and use an optical to the Xbox?? Or is that not possible??

I'm debating doing this myself, I don't need the optical passthrough with my current setup but if I moved the 5.8 mixamp to the projector room I'd need it, that receiver doesn't accept hdmi.

Did reaper ever get his TX unit back to confirm it has been 'fixed'? I'm not going to contact Astro until someone confirms they have changed it.

Formula and I talked about this...I don't understand why Astro can't just release a firmware update via USB to turn this feature off if you want to. I mean it's gotta be flash ROM with the operating instructions in the TX unit. Why would you possibly have to change the hardware to tell the TX unit not to turn itself off after 30 minutes if no RX unit is detected?

My Mixamp 5.8 came with a basic optical cable.

Just got a response from Astro....for anyone with a 2010 Mixamp 5.8 wireless who wants the new TX...

Quote:

If you already have the MixAmp 5.8, and would like to have the TX unit exchanged for one with the fix to the optical pass-through issue, we can do so. If you are looking to get the 2011 version of the headset, you can either wait for the upgrade kits to come out:

http://www.astrogaming.com/products/...1-Upgrade-Kit/

Or, if you are still within the 15 day return period, you can return the headset and place an order for the 2011 version.

In the event that we do need to ship you any replacements or begin the warranty process, we will need you to confirm a few pieces of information as we do not have this email address associated with a purchase through any of the ASTRO Gaming websites. We will need your order and/or invoice numbers from the email confirmation you received at the time of your online purchase in order to assist you. If you purchased the headset at an event or through another online retailer, please reference that event/website with your receipt or order number. We will also need to know if there have been any changes to your shipping address since your original purchase.

Because I want a NEW one, made by MS or monoprice. Nobody sells the MS ones. I ordered that used one for now, since it was only like $5 total. Annoys me that guy's idea of "expedited" shipping is first class though. I want bloody priority mail.

Bah. Now I gotta make sure that order at audioheadstore.com gets canceled. I emailed last night and I'm still waiting for a response. I tried the 800 number and they want you to leave a message. What kind of **** is that? For a Sennheiser authorized dealer, they seem like *******s. Anyone got experience with the place? If I don't hear anything by Monday, I'll probably just call my credit card company and block the charge.

Please excuse the noob questions, but this is a ridiculously long thread:

1. What the heck is a mixamp for?
2. Do you need a mixamp with the sennheiser pc360 headset?

Did you read the first post? Admittedly, I haven't read it for a long time but I'd think this information would be in there.

Apparently, you need the Mixamp if you want the pc360 to work with consoles like Xbox360.

There are a lot of reviews of headsets in the first post, but nothing about mixamps or what they are for. As far as I can tell they are just to balance the game audio with voice audio, which seems a bit ridiculous for a $100 piece of equipment.

Reading the reviews on amazon, it seems like there are people who plug it right into their 360 and it works.

It is a Dolby Headphone processor, input switcher, and mic/voice audio mixer. You run digital audio to it and it decodes using Dolby Headphone to regular stereo headphones, which most agree are a LOT better than those "surround" headphones with multiple drivers built into the cans. You can also daisy chain multiple ones together for private voice chat in a LAN party, which some of the pro gamers rely on...

Dumb question - read the first post -

Not sure if I can hookup the TB HPX to the Tritton Ax720 decoder or only the Astro Mixamp?

It appears they use similar 9 pin connectors....

Please advise -

I've decided to sell my PC 360 headset and keep my K702 mic mod set up. If you are interested PM me.

ATB:

But seriously, it all depends on what you want. No mistake that the K702 is definitely superior to the PC360 on pretty much all counts, except the lack of permanent mic and volume control, which is just pure convenience anyway. You probably would have chosen the HD598 over the PC360 too.
