The PC360 does not need the E9. The Mixamp is enough.

Do you feel the PC 360's would be a nice replacement? Plus, you can't beat having the mic right there. I see the new A40's are creating quite a buzz as well. So, I'll do a search on those as well. I haven't really had a need to utilize the wireless feature of my mixamp, so I've been thinking about getting a wired version to pickup any increase in quality, if any. So, I'm basically thinking about starting all over.

If I went with the PC 360's would the E9, be needed as much? I only got it, because I know it's hard to push the DT-880's (600ohm).

Bigger soundstage -> Check
More in your face dynamic -> No

Those are usually two contrasting qualities, i.e., the bigger the soundstage, the less in your face it will be and vice a versa. Also the PC360 is a little flatter/more neutral sounding, but the DT880 has sparklier treble and (according to my memory) more bass which you could attribute to a more dynamic sound.

The positioning may be better with the PC360s, as some people have issues with the DT880 rear cues. The PC360 is solid with positioning in all directions.

If your someone who uses a mic a lot, definitely consider the Sennheisers, as they're damn convenient in that regard. I would hold on to your DT880s though and A-B them with whatever you get to compare.

<--- I am what they would call a professional lurker.

On topic again, as for people still negative against the A40's please try the 2011 edition before you give opinions

Some people have and hated them, saying that it adds fuller bass, but taking away from the midrange. That is a trade off that is very hard to swallow. Its hard enough for me, which is why I need at least one headphone of each type.

Everyones hearing is different. I think the upgrade makes the A40 sound alot better. I don't notice any difference in the midrange. But my hearing may not be as acute as some. JMO

I'm sure that the 2011 would sound good to me for music, movies, and social gaming, but would disappoint me for competitive gaming. I just don't wanna hear any emphasis in bass when playing competitively.

I'm sure theres alot of better cans out there for the price. I thought the pre 2011 A40 sounded okay but not for the $$. Better than other headsets I've tried but not better than similar priced headphones. I couldn't use them for movies because the old one have very little bass. And pretty much sounded awful for movies and music for that matter. But for gaming there was alot of detail to me. With the upgrade there more bass which it needed. Theres not lot of bass and I still hear the detail. But thats my ears. The $30 upgrade was worth it for me. If someone was buying new right now I would be interesed in the PC 360 cuz all the "likes" jmo

For the hassle/effort/extra cost I decided a mixamp + HD598 or PC360 was probably not worth the effort and ordered a full A40 wireless system last night.

The reviews of the 2011 A40 have been pretty favourable across the board and akaTrent even went so far as to say the SQ is much the same between them and the PC360.

I will let you know my thoughts once I have received them and had a chance to listen/play with them a bit.

Thanks again for all the tips/advice.

I take akaTrent's info with a grain of salt. Regardless, hope it goes well and you enjoy them! FWIW their packaging is top notch.

Im using the syberia v2 headset and i just got the razer onza controle. The razer onza doesn't have the the same 3 hole mic puck thing a regular controle has, so i can't use my steel series adapter anymore with my headset. I bought a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female cable and pluged in the mic part then to my controle, and sadly it didn't work. Is it because it only has two rings or because its a crappy cable that costed me 2$? Is there anyways i can use my headset with this controle to get chat and still be able to get game sound? Im using the dss btw.

I think you have to convert the signal to mono somehow. You could try adding a stereo to mono adapter into the chain for it to work. So it would look like:

Siberia Mic plug (stereo) > Stereo to mono adapter > 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable

I'm not sure though, its kind of confusing. I would try and get one from radioshack and test to make sure it works.

Hmm ok so by the stereo to mono adapter you mean this :

Any one else think this might work? Or anyone else have their own theory?
I think so.

It should be stereo on the female end, and mono on the male end.

Siberia Mic plug (stereo) > Stereo to mono adapter > 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable
or? Im i going to have to buy another cable?

Just received my A40s.

Initial impressions are good. They are pretty comfy and the sound is excellent to my ears, however I have nothing to compare them to.

Quick question, are the foam inserts supposed to be pushed all the way onto the pegs of the tags or just "rest" around the metal portion?

Hey guys, I've been reading a ton and I wanted to get you guys' opinions. I'm looking for a headset setup for 360 and PS3 gameplay and movie watching. My wife scorns me when I wake her up while blasting bad guys at night.

What is important to me:
-Positional sound. I want to head bullets whiz by and footsteps behind me. From what I am reading you don't necessarily need a true surround headset to get that?
-Comfort. I have a fat head.

My setup currently:
YAMAHA RX-V565 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver
XBOX 360 and the PS3 connected and switched through the Yamaha.

I already have the Audio Technica AD700 headphones so I was thinking I would buy the Astro mixamp and use it with those. I just need a mic solution for voice chat on 360 and PS3. Then, when I can afford it I will upgrade my headset to the Sennheiser PC360s or other higher-end headset. Also, is there a way to hook this up so I don't have to switch back and forth the cables for 360 to PS3?

Either that or I could buy something like the PX5 or Tritton AXPro sets or something like that. What think?

Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks.

I owned them for 10 days. They sounded muffled w/o any detail so
I don't recommend them.

A40 may not be best bang for the buck. Sound the best. But ime they don't sound muffled and do have some detail. May not be the best in comparisons. But the muffled sound and no detail at all makes no sense?

I've had my A40s for a couple of days now and overall I am still happy with them.

Just a question/observation though to those that have A40s + Mixamp (5.8):

In Black Ops, when reloading a gun the sound has a weird signature/sound-field that I only notice when the mixamp is in "surround" mode.

It's difficult to describe but in stereo mode it sounds "flat" with no depth, in Dolby mode (red light on the Tx unit lit) it sounds like it has depth but it's kinda weird...it has a weird metallic echo about it...

I noticed the same in Crysis 2...

Is this normal?

EDIT:

This could of course be "right" as the weapons/magazines are of course made of metal!

I also have heard this with both my wired, and wireless mixamp. I think it's a product of the Dolby Headphone surround. I've also used multiple headphones, but still hear the same effect.

I can't believe people are still using cables in this day and age.

I have a pair of Turtle Beach PX5's and they are a beast. Worth the $250 I paid. I watched Aliens last night with the PX5's and they sounded great. Play Socom and Mortal Kombat with them all the time. I would rather listen to those than the Surround Sound.

I also have them connected to my PC and Crysis 2 has Never sounded so good. Music comes thru in 5.1. I can also answer my HTC EVO while playing Socom ( now that's AWESOME). I use them to watch movies and listen to music on my Xoom. I have 4 Sanyo Eneloops and when one pair go out, I just put the other pair in and charge up the pair that have no juice. I Always have a pair to go.

I have 4 port Toslink switch to change between PS3 and PC. I still use my TB X41'S FOR MY Xbox, even thou I used the PX5 on the Xbox and they worked perfectly. No hiss or 2.4ghz interference issues like the X41's. PX5'S are the BEST for me.
I looked into the PX5s but after seeing the X41s (which are very similar to the PX5) and a couple of other TB products I didn't think the build quality would be up to much so decided to pass.
Alot of times I game on my PS3 and chat with my friends through Mumble so we can have next to no latency issues. Which Headsets would allow this? Would this be possible through the AX720 or Astro Mixamp? Would the PX5 be able to do this? How about any cheaper options? This will be my first headset, so I'm leaning towards the AX720's since I have a decent amount of credit at Bestbuy.com. Let me know which which of these devices will allow this kind of setup plz! Thanks in advance!

The build quality is just fine. Dropped mine i few times with NO issues at all. They are GREAT WIRELESS devices and the PX5 juts uped the ANte on the X41

Fair enough, I'm pretty happy with the Astros but I will concede that the wires are a bit of a PITA.

That being said for XBox the PX5 still needs the talk-back cable at the moment, though I did hear that there was a wireless "puck" coming to resolve this issue. I assume it will work over Bluetooth.

One thing I do like about the Astros is that I have the option of using any headphones I like with the mixamp. It's nice to have that flexibility.

Overall though, I am very happy with the Astros...

"Footstep focus"...interesting indeed. Can't wait to see some reviews on that.

My standard Xbox 360 headset is on the fritz and it's looking like I'll need a replacement. Now, I don't need some blingy $100 awesome audio headset, I need something for voice chat. Since I seem to be blowing through MS headsets, has anyone tried the Plantronics X10 headset? Looks decent, it's got good reviews.

Thoughts??
