i've used my deltas with ipad/iphone/razr/pc with bluetooth. if it's got bluetooth, optical, or regular red/white audio plugs it can worth with px5/xp500/deltas

limitless possibilities for wireless gaming/movies/music/whatever!

if you are needing audio from a 3.5mm source you can use a 3.5mm to the rca audio cable to the wireless receiver. i use that for my laptop when traveling so i have ventrilo recieve/transmit through bluetooth and game sound through the rca to wireless base for headset

I've read through most of this thread and there is quite a bit of information here, so I thought I would ask a direct question of the headset experts.

I currently game mainly on my Xbox 360, but I also use my PS3 and occassionally my Wii. My tv is a 67" Samsung LED DLP. My AVR is the Denon 4311CI. I have a 7.1 speaker setup in my family room consisting of Klipsch RF82II L/R, RC-64II C, RS-62II LS/RS, and CDT-5650-C SBL/SBR. Current Sub is a leftover crappy Yamah HTIB I had from my first system and haven't had time to build my own yet. That being said, I am quite pleased with my current environment for gaming and movies, however, Modern Warfare 3 has thrown a huge wrench in my ability to enjoy the system. It's not that I don't enjoy playing it in 7.1 using Dolby PLIIX to matrix the last 2 channels, but my wife has an issue with the constant gunfire and explosions from when I play online multiplayer (first game ever to really annoy her and I used to play a lot of Rock Band with the ion drum set (that she bought for me) and playing mostly heavy metal and black metal, i.e. Arch Enemy, DevilDriver, MachineHead, with the occassional classic rock or song for the keyboard accessorry). It doesn't annoy her if I play once she goes to bed (as she can just barely hear the bass from an explosion or an EMP), but it drives her batty if she is downstairs while I play.

That being said, I now have 2 options. I can play with the sound completely attenuated, or I can buy a good headset. I have looked at the different options here and am thinking I would like to get the TB MW3 Deltas (cheaper than the XP500 right now with price match from Amazon). I need a wireless setup (3 crazy dogs and plan on having kids in the near future), so I was thinking either the Astro A40 wireless setup, the Astro Mixamp 5.8 with Sennheiser PC360, or the SoundBlaster Recon3d Omega. Problem with the Soundblaster is that it appears to only work with an optical input (which means I would not be able to use any other source than the xbox or PS3). My problem with the Astro setup is the dangling wires, so I can either get the TB PX5/XP500/MW3 Delta for the full wireless. I also want to be able to use the headphone out from my AVR so I can listen to my music (such as Amon Amarth) without giving my dogs or wife anxiety.

I read the reviews on the different options, and while the SoundBlaster would seem to be the best if it had the RCA Inputs or line in from 3.5mm, it doesn't so I need to exclude it. I don't want multiple dangling wires for the Astro mixamp, and I don't want to wait for Warheads (as I also use my PS3). Does anyone with experience with both the Sennheiser PC360 or A40 and the TB XP500/PX5/MW# Delta have any input that would make my decision easier? I would greatly appreciate it.

for simplicity and having bluetooth, optical, and rca. I vote for px5/xp500s/deltas. I use deltas and even last night I was sitting in bed watching college football bowl games with my deltas on while wife slept. I use them all over the house and I can have them as loud as I want it.

Hello and Happy New Year.

I have the same problem as TheWolf in that I need a good headset for late night gaming so the wife can get her beauty sleep. After some research I am settled on the PC 360.
I plan on ordering an Astro mix amp as well. I'm a noob in this area and not sure which to get. This set up will be strictly for gaming. I know the 5.8 is wireless, which I really have no need for as close as i sit to my display. Other than that, is there any advantage getting the 5.8 over the Pro and vice versa?

I also should mention this is for a PS3. Any and all suggestion, recommendations or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you sit next to the display, get the Pro. It has less noise/hiss, more inputs and versatility.
Thanks for the reply, mix amp ordered.

Anyone familiar with razordog deals and are they a credible dealer?

Great site to get Senns. Most of us got ours from there. Maybe someone will know the best deal and hook you up. Saying you are a member of AVS may be enough.

You can, as stated, use a 3.5mm to RCA converter cable, but then you can only stray as far as the 2.4 signal will allow as the RCA jacks are on the base station. If you use them with bluetooth, you should be able to use them anywhere because the bluetooth receiver is in the headset. Hence the confusion over being "mobile".

I know the Turtle Beach X12 headset is considered low end for you guys but if you're looking it, Amazon has it on sale for $36.43 now. Toys R Us is also selling it for $30. But I still ended up getting it from Amazon because for free shipping at TRU, I'd have to buy a lot more stuff and they wanted almost $7 for shipping and then I had to also pay state sales tax.

great reviews and compatible with the turtle beach dss for dolby surround.

Just got my ax720s today. Very comfortable and sound is great. I'd almost say they are a bit bass heavy when a lot of action is going on in mw3. I let my wife wear them for a bit playing Alan Wake and she was really impressed.
First time I've heard anyone consider them bass heavy, though the new AX720 may very well sound different.

Well I just recently purchased and returned the Tritton Primer wireless headset, But not because it was bad actually. I usually use my Senn hd555 or previously dt990/880 with a mic attached to a mixamp pro, but I have been looking to go wireless due to both my children 6 and 3 just making it hazardous to have wires everywhere in the front room.

I was seriously pretty surprised with them. They are very sleek looking, and the sound quality was better than I expected. I previously have used turtle beach x31 and 41s and had nothing but hiss and audio drop outs. I live in the city so everyone has a wireless signal around here and that is what i attributed it to. Anyways these new Trittons use the 5.8ghz wireless and there is some low level noise, but it was much much less noticeable than the turtle beach and with even a small amount of sound was pretty much nonexistant. I ran optical into my mixamp then from there to the Tritton wireless base station so I could still have dolby headphone. Like i said sound was better than I was expecting but not near the soundfield of the higher end phones i had.

Finally they are supra aural phones which i didnt even realize till i opened them up. They are comfortable but i prefer circum aural for longer play sessions due to wearing glasses at night. Also they are closed. I am waiting to try the Devastators that are supposedly coming out the 16th so i'll report back about those.

This thread is just massive! Has anyone had any experience with the Sony DR-GA500's?

My initial impression is that the provided box (amp? sound processor? not sure what to call it) is mostly a gimmick with its "gaming" modes. They make everything sound echoy and terrible and worst of all incredibly hard to pinpoint positionally. When I turn the effects to OFF I get way better positional audio (the box and OS are still set to 7.1 sound).

I am actually wondering if anyone has tried just these headphones using Dolby Headphone? One of the original couple of posts had a guy who tried a ton of headsets and gave his impression on them and I feel like the headset itself is very good but maybe I need Dolby Headphone to really set it off. Is it best to get something like the Mixamp or simply get a soundcard that will do Dolby Headphone?
With Mixamp 5.8 and the PC 360, does the chat feature work seamlessly, like with the a40? I am currently using the a40s, but I am curious if the PC 360 will improve my sound. I have a real nice sounding system when I am not using a headset and am somewhat spoiled.
