Will they work with the next gen console? If I'm going to pay $250 for cans, only to have a new XB come out next year and they don't work...that would blow!
For all we know, the nextbox could have integrated surround processing - Dolby, THX or proprietary...just plug in some usb cans or use a mic/stereo adapter of some kind. Maybe even BT wireless streaming.
Highly unlikely,...but possible.
On the flip side of that coin, in theory as long as the next box supports 5.1 audio over optical any of the current generation heasets will still work...at least for virtual surround sound.
The giant nextbox question mark is whether Microsoft will still go with a proprietary chat implemention, or go with a more open implementation like Sony did for the PS3.
I'm with bd on this; at least for chat I think it's safe to say that the warhead will not be compatible with the next console generation.
