The NEW Gaming Headset/Headphone Topic! (REQUEST STICKY PLZ) - Page 143

Zath, I just bought a PX5. Pretty impressed so far. And they have Bluetooth, so they work with either console. Plus you can use the Bluetooth to stream music or use your phone with the headset. And the audio customization is unreal. Just my non-audiophile .02

Still waiting to replace my X41's w/ the Warhead. If you can hold out...

What cans should I get next???

I mostly only play MW3 and it will be paired with the mixamp. I do want something that can rock hard if I want them to play music. I love my 2011 A40s but wouldnt mind trying something new. My choices...

beyerdynamic 990 pro
audiotechnica ad 700
seinheiser pc 360
something else?

Thanks

Curious, anyone know why mixamp 5.8 (also 5.8 RX) is not available at Astro anymore.
It causes cancer.

No idea...

Jerry, out of those, the DT990 Pro is the one with the biggest difference from the Astros. The others would be competing for the same uses with your Astros.

Hmmm, either they are getting ready to launch something new or they are just out of stock.

I'm leaning more towards low stock since they are still selling the 5.8 in a wireless bundle with the A40s/A30s

The HD598 smokes the A40s overall, but they aren't exactly fun for me. They are well balanced and analytical for me, not much of fun factor like the DT990s.

I'm looking for a simple headset with mic for the Xbox 360. I have a Yamaha RX-V867 receiver and am considering buying the TB X12 headset. I'm trying to stay away from any wireless solution due to the charging and interference issues as I have a bunch of devices that use the 2.4 and 5 gHz spectrum.

If I do go with the X12s, should I connect them to my receiver or directly to the 360? Thanks!

Thanks. Just noticed there's a new lineup of headphones coming out a month from now. I might just wait till then. The new lineup has a wireless bluetooth adapter that goes into the 360 controller, which would be so niiiice.

They make that Bluetooth adapter for the PX5, I have one on the way from Amazon...I'll let you know how it works out. Totally wireless will be very nice!
Astro needs to make an adapter that plugs into the controller, and one on the Mixamp's 2.5mm input (yes, it'd be weird, but it would allow complete freedom from the controller).

Surely, someone has thought of this already.

Got it thanks, Patton. The Triton looks good but I'd prefer PS3 and even PC compatibility. I figure why not, right? .

Peg, lmk about the bluetooth!

The "new" PX5 is the XP500. You can also get the MW3 branded Ear Force Delta, which is usually cheaper than the XP500 and includes the blutooth adapter. Right now it's $190 on Amazon, where the XP500 is $240.

I considered that one, it looks pretty nice. The Warhead however, is 5.8 instead of 2.4, and it uses MS proprietary signal. I figured if I'm gonna replace my X41's after just 2yrs, do it right.

That's assuming they ever get released.

Hi slyderulz, thanks for the respond. It appear the reason is not about being "low stock" as its offer in the UK .

PLEASE NOTE - THE MIXAMP 5.8 IS CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE BUNDLED WITH AN A40 OR A30 HEADSET. STANDALONE MIXAMP 5.8's ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE UK.

Plus this was tweeted by Warblade

So it looks like the MixAmp 5.8 cannot be purchase .

Wow, glad I bought mine when they were still available for individual purchase. Interesting marketing move by Astro, they are obviously trying to move headsets.

Feb. 17, Tritton's Twitter: "The earliest the Warheads should start to become available will be the tail end of Spring, beginning of Summer." For cryin' out loud, that means late August.

Anyone have any idea when seinnheiser would release a new flagship headset to replace the pc 360?

As far as positional ques and overall competitiveness how would you guys rank hd 598 vs beyer dt 990 vs 2011 a40s? And is there really a night and day diff or just kinda slight?

I really think my a40s are all I need for a gaming headset but would like something more fun or really just something new to waste money on! lol

I can't speak for the others you mentioned, but I have used the a40 and senn pc360, and I prefer, the 360. The only thing I liked better was the more flexible mic boom on the a40. Midrange, imaging, nice bass all were presented with the 360.
Short review of the sennheiser hd555

So I purchased the senn hd555 and the first thing I did was to play music with some nice bass and it was so- so. So the next thing I did was the 595 mod and this mod completely transforms the senns to a new set of headphones, the soundstage is out of this world great, the bass is 10x better the highs and mids sound very crisp , compared to other headsets ive heard/owned I couldn't imagine it could get better. When gaming (I've been completely addicted to infected) when an enemy is behind you, you hear exactly that there behind you which is what i wanted in a headset so if there is anyone undecided about what headset to get this is the one, think no more. I have the headset attached to the labtech lva-7330 mic which works good, and everything wired to the ax720 amp, this setup makes for a gaming orgazim...

Have they answered the big question yet?

Will they work with the next gen console? If I'm going to pay $250 for cans, only to have a new XB come out next year and they don't work...that would blow!

Seeing how much MS likes to gouge on accessories, I'd say no way.

That won't be a question they'll answer right now. If you're really concerned about that, buy something like the XP500 or Astro setup.

For all we know, the nextbox could have integrated surround processing - Dolby, THX or proprietary...just plug in some usb cans or use a mic/stereo adapter of some kind. Maybe even BT wireless streaming.

Highly unlikely,...but possible.

On the flip side of that coin, in theory as long as the next box supports 5.1 audio over optical any of the current generation heasets will still work...at least for virtual surround sound.

The giant nextbox question mark is whether Microsoft will still go with a proprietary chat implemention, or go with a more open implementation like Sony did for the PS3.

I'm with bd on this; at least for chat I think it's safe to say that the warhead will not be compatible with the next console generation.

And that's the reason I just ordered replacement headphones for my x41 rather than shelling out $250 for new ones
