So...good and bad here. It's completely an utterly wireless. Which is absolutely liberating. Its also much lighter and more comfortable than the trittons. I could wear these all day no problem, but the trittons were like having my head in a vise, and it actually still hurt my head for a while after I took them off. The ear holes are bigger, everything is softer, really good job on the comfort.
You still need a little dongle to connect the chat, which works fine. It interferes with the nyko charger I use, but I can deal with that. People said I sound clear to them, and they sound clear to me.
The star of the show is the surround processing. It's *very* good. Sounds natural, easy to localize rear sounds. Extra special mention for the selectable HRTFs - theyre technically virtual speaker positions, but functionally, since everyone hears differently, it allows you to pick one that most effectively allows you to localize rear sounds. Unlike Dolby headphone, there is no added reverb, so it doesn't always sound like you're in a bathroom. The only reverb you hear is from the game's sound engine. Best I've heard, period.
Now for the bad news....these just don't sound great. I don't understand how they can allow drivers like this in a $200+ headset. The bass is practically nonexistent. I didn't care for the overblown bass of the trittons, but this is kind of ridiculous. They honestly just sound....cheap. The EQ is pointless, the "bass boost" just accentuates the terrible low end. They're definitely more clear than the muddy trittons, but even the midrange and treble is merely adequate in terms of quality. To be honest...I probably prefer the trittons here. Both sound bad, but at least the trittons were involving, like if you can't do it right, at least do it wrong in a fun way. These just sound like cheap headphones.
Also, although I can't really fault TB on this...I need to basically buy an optical switch if I want to use more than one device.
Overall, the comfort, convenience and excellent surround processing make it the better headset....but I'm not really happy with them either. The sound is just unacceptable.
Are there any other fully wireless options? Preferably one that doesn't sound like garbage?
