I hadnt even heard of the warheads until today .... But I hear such mixed things about the XP400 many good things as well as bad..
Am I truly better off waiting? I have the PX21 right now and want to upgrade to wireless.
I disagree. The original Xbox controllers and headsets were not compatible with the 360. Given changes like smartglass and other improvements MSFT is envisioning, it stands to reason that existing 360 controllers will not be compatible with the next generation console. Now that I think about it, I can't think of a single console that has ever been released where the controllers from the previous generation were compatible.
My take is that anyone looking to buy the Warheads should be prepared to use them solely on the 360, and not expect them to work on the next gen console. Of course I may be wrong and the whole reason Tritton has delayed the Warhead's release is that they are working with MSFT to future-proof them. I just don't see that being the case.
Good point on the dual shock. This is quite unusual behavior for Sony. However, an important caveat here is that the dual shock controller was released after the PS2 was announced, so Sony probably felt compelled to make it compatible with both the PS2 and PS.
I maintain that if I were buying a third-party accessory like the warheads, I would not expect them to be compatible with a console that has not even been announced yet. It seems a bit optimistic to me.
Who knows, MSFT may support some form of bluetooth audio in its next console, in an attempt to adopt a more standards-friendly approach. Interestingly in that case, the current xbox 360 wireless headset would be compatible (since it doubles as a bluetooth headset) whereas the Tritton Warheads would not since it relies on the proprietary wireless signal.
