The PLYR has two usb ports. one to power the base, the other to charge the Plyr 1 (though the Plyr can be charged with other devices, and the usb port can charge other things). IF you want voice chat on PS3 (and I assume PS4), you MUST hook up the base the the PS3/4's usb port. As for Xbox 360, there is a controller cable that plugs from the headset to the controller (blame Microsoft, not Skullcandy). If you're not using voice chat, you can power the base off any USB port.
As for the wireless transmission, even Jude at Head-fi (the founder), has stated that the Plyr 1 has a wireless signal that bests even the most expensive wireless headphones. I would agree. there is absolutely NO audio cutting off, noise, etc. The ONLY time audio may cut off is when you're switching from one type of signal to another (PCM to Dolby Digital), like when navigating from the PS3's menus (which run in PCM), then starting a game (Dolby Digital).
On some occasions, this will cause the Plyr to lose the signal. All you have to do there is just go to the base and hit the DH button (twice to go back to Dolby Headphone). This will pick up the signal immediately. Turning the base on/off and then on again also works.
^That RARELY happens, and once you get the signal back, it never cuts off.
