ESPN HD/ESPN 2 HD Picture Quality Improving? (5/2011) - Page 16

I really didn't want to see the same team compete for a second year (and in full disclosure I am a Beaver fan). That being said with the craziness that happened tonight who knows what will happen to the championship picture.

Isn't that the truth. And the way the Ducks played with a lack of intensity and little sense of urgency until getting down big last night, they got what was coming to them and apparently didn't really deserve to be in the discussion anyway it seems.

One show that isn't going HD is Jim Rome is Burning.

He's leaving ESPN on the 27th.

Yay one less talking heads show. Amazing how much ESPN demands in carriage fees yet I swear they have more talking heads shows that show the SAME highlight clips then they do live events. I guess people love seeing clips of "Saint" Tebow being sacked over and over and over and over.

Don't know why Tebow takes a hit on this...if anything it gets old watching highlight clips of the losers Eagles/Cowboys and barely over .500 Giants.

I was hoping he'd been cancelled, but he's actually moving to CBS Sports Network.

Because Tebow is a very easy target. Oh and that ESPN has pretty much ballwashed Tebow for the past several months shoving him down our throats at every single opportunity.

That's what drives all this ESPN/SportsMedia engine. Sports journalist as a whole are the laziest of all the press industry. Tebow is a easy target b/c sport writers want others (coaches, players, agents, etc) to do their job for them. It's the worst kind of journalism produced by unimaginative,lazy people that couldn't make a living thinking on their own. DM's comment is a cheap shot and just as pathetic. I'm not overly religious or a Tebow/Bronco fan but I pull for the guy just to prove the point that it's so easy to 'target' people like him in herd mentality and then just say ESPN created this.

My guess is that CBS Sports Network helped pay for a new studio for him to continue his show....

That may be true, but the biggest reason for him leaving is all of the things that were said about him in the "unofficial" ESPN book that came out a little while ago.

I'm noticing a lot of video/audio glitches with ESPN HD lately...the video/audio freezes for a quick second...been happening more then usual during tonight's NBA game on ESPN...anyone else seeing this or is this a FiOS issue?

Noticed this too on Cablevision. Thought it was a CV issue. So, it seems to be coming in that way to the providers.

Out of curiosity, does ESPN no longer send out a 4:3 version of ESPN News? I have Dish Network, which doesn't have the HD version of ESPN News, and I noticed that my SD version of ESPN News now is 16:9 format squished into the 4:3 area.

Just checked on Comcast, and ESPN News SD is letterboxed. It is also significantly ahead of the HD version, so it would appear ESPN is still sending out separate feeds.

If that's the case, they need to get with times on the SportsCenter graphics and get some 16:9 framed graphics in there. I'm tired of two shots (both in HD) with pillarbars on the side just so it stays centered for ESPNEWS SD viewers.

SportsCenter is definitely due for a graphical refresh. The 4:3-safe stuff has got to go.

I believe within the last two weeks the ESPNews SD feed (Channel 402 on Comcast Sacramento) has become essentially the letterboxed SD version of the regular ESPNews HD feed (Channel 726 on my system).

ESPNEWS is letterboxed SD on FiOS.

When ESPN made the switch to new encoders at the content provider last year they kept the ESPNEWS SD full screen feed active.
I wondered when it would switch.

On FiOS ESPNEWS SD seems to have the most digital compression artifacts of all the ESPN SD Channels.

I was watching some Euro 2012 coverage and the main camera in the Euro 2012 studio is clearly edge enhanced.

Not sure what is going on with ESPN News on Dish Network right now. Dish doesn't have the HD version, but for the past couple of months, the SD version was a letterboxed version of the HD channel. But today I noticed they went back to 4:3 version, and there has been no bottom line on it all day.

Now only if ESPN can do away with the bottom line crap during live events. Really annoying to have that crap on the bottom of the screen when its not needed.

But I need the animated graphic telling me "SportsCenter" is on ESPNews every 8 seconds ;(

Even though the signal is coming in as 5.1, there is no audio coming our of the rear two channels via Comcast in Central IL

On FiOS the audio on the rear surrounds is very low.

The main CFB crew always has good PQ. Can't say the same about the crew that did the Sugar Bowl. That was really bad for something called HD.

Did the espn picture for the game last night seem different to anyone? I don't know how to describe it, but it just didn't seem 'normal' last night on my E7000.

Anyone else experiencing really bad lip sync on ESPN?

For my setup (DirecTV, Denon AVR => Sharp 80 inch LCD via HDMI,) the lips keep moving for about 1/2 second after the voice stops.

I've seen similar issues on the Daily Show where the studio voices are fine but the video clips are off.

Seems like some sync information is not present or wrong. I assume the TV sends delay info back down the HDMI to the AVR (but you know about assumptions...)

On a show like the BCS National Championship they have a lot of time to get it all dialed in. I was struck by the fact that there appeared to be a few banks of lights off at the stadium in the corners, which I thought was interesting. The stuff on the field though looked fine. But ESPN has consistently done nice work with the Nat'l Championships the last few years since they got it back (but I do seem to recall Texas/Alabama being a little dark at the Rose Bowl).

The K-State/Oklahoma game on FOX looked absolutely atrocious in comparison. Not sure what was up with that.

Perhaps those lights were left over from the years when the Marlins played there. Maybe the lighting configuration for baseball is different.
