Pretty much all of the Windows 8 games do that. A big part of the problem is that the login is not systematic, but instead per-app, so you have to wait until the app fully loads to the title screen before it even attempts to connect.
Something to keep in mind though is that I did read on the Zen Studios forums that they are planning on also releasing a general PC version too, which might have more settings and possibly better visual quality than the Windows 8 version. Unfortunately, tables purchased for the Windows 8 version will not carry over to that standalone PC version either.

We'll be releasing a general PC version that is not limited to the Windows 8 Metro environment. It should work on Windows 8, 7, and possibly other versions as well. Your table library won't carry over between this and the Windows 8 versions, so you should pick one and stick with it. The new version will be pretty similar to the Windows 8 version in terms of look, feel, and available content, but it will have global leaderboards and some other features like more extensive graphical options. It will also have offline play. We will add some features such as basic cab support after launch. We're still targeting Steam as the distribution channel, and the game should be out relatively soon.
