It wouldn't mean a damn WHO was playing, the Super Bowl would crush the baseball game.
That's why nobody programs against it (well, maybe Animal Planet with its Puppy Bowl) anymore. You've got pretty much a lock on America's attention when 100+ million people are watching.
This past year's game (Super Bowl XLIV) was an emotional catharsis for lots of folks, considering that the New Orleans Saints, with all the baggage of almost 5 years since Katrina hanging on their coattails, were involved.
Their opponent, the Indianapolis Colts, were the (supposedly) technical better team, but many people, whether involved or not with what happened in New Orleans, made the Saints a strong sentimental favorite.
Their win made Mardi Gras a bit sweeter (and a bit longer
) for the fans. Proved Drew Brees made the right decision not only to join the team, but move and live there full time.
