Coming July 2012 to a theater near you.

Big news from the Batman camp in today’s L.A. Times: Christopher Nolan has revealed the name of the third film in his Gotham City trilogy. In July 2012, we’ll be queuing for The Dark Knight Rises.

EDIT: Anyone who plans to reveal details of the film as it approaches, pleases use the [spoiler] tags. Thanks!

Yep! and the Riddler will not be the villain in this one as previously thought..so who? .
Kate Beckinsale as Catwoman pleeeeeeease!
Cool. I was hoping sometime soon after Inception came out we'd hear about the new Batman. Looking forward to the 3rd installment.

Funky title. I wasn't expecting it to be so similar to the last one.

Can't wait to hear who the villian will be.

I hope they keep it simple like they've been doing and don't try to stuff 5 villians into the mix as seems to be more and more common with superhero sequels.

I'm confident Christopher Nolan will be smarter than that.

Or Robin.

LOL

I'm sure both Nolan and Bale have a clause somewhere in their contracts against anything involving robin one way or another

Yeah, I also hate the title...sounds too much like either a cooking show or a porn movie. I'd have preferred something like GOTHAM KNIGHTS, GOTHAM CITY, or SHADOW OF THE BAT (which I think is a comic book title, but still better than RISES).

Wasn't Bale quoted as saying that, contractual obligation be damned, if they tried to put Robin in one of these movie's he'd chain himself to a pole and force them to shoot the movie around him? Something like that, I think. Sounds like something he'd do.

I know I would!

I won't be surprised at all if he's one of the next big celebrity mug shots we see.

“If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I’ll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work.”

...As long as a great actor(tress?) is that villain, I don't care who Batman is gonna have to fight this time.

Hmmm...villain and love interest in one character.

I was hoping the rumor about Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Riddler turned out to be true. Oh well. I still hope Nolan finds a role for JGL.

Saw the title and thought it was a porn take off.

Something about the title, combined with the ending of TDK, has me wondering if maybe we'll see the rise of Harvey Dent as Two-Face. I cant recall if it was definitive or not that he was dead at the end of TDK, can anyone else?

If not.. I'd like a realistic take on Mr. Freeze personally, something to erase the memory of Arnie as him.
hard to say, there are quite a few good villains to choose from- Could we see Poison Ivy or Bane?

Fenian
Agree with Fenian, and it would be about time too since we have yet to see those fruitfully in live action.

I can't wait for this, but I must say I'm not a fan of the title syntax, "The Dark Knight Rises". verb + noun sounds better than noun + verb for a movie title.

Rise of the Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Returns
Return of the Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Rebirths
Rebirth of the Dark Knight

I like the title well enough. I care more that the creative team gives us another phenomenon like TDK. Not sure how they can do it, but that's why I'm not part of their team...

Rise of the Dark Knight

The Dark Knight Returns
Return of the Dark Knight

time for a grammar lesson

none of those titles represent 'verb followed by noun'

I wonder how badly they want to do another film with the Joker, the vauge ending of what happens to the Joker when the SWAT time finds him dangling kind of left them open to have him escape again for another film.

Yeah, like the catastrophe that was Spiderman 3 where there was too much crammed into one movie.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Scarecrow return with a more prominent role. Cillian Murphy did a great job and is one of my favorite actors.
While the title may not be spectacular, it follows in the same line as the first two films...

Batman Begins x The Dark Knight = The Dark Knight + verb
post #27 of 1595
Since no 3D, the big question is, will he go all the way with IMAX or 70mm.
That would spectacular
Good call, buddywhite. I predict 100% IMAX shooting. He can convince WB to shell out the coin for that expense, based on the success of TDK.

Less a matter of expense and more an issue of practicality. Those cameras are as loud as chainsaws. The dialogue for the entire film would have to be ADR'd if they went that route. Not good from a performance aspect.
*laughs*

Is there a particular reason why IMAX cameras are so loud compared to 35mm camera systems? I remember hearing about how loud they were when the Dark Knight was in production.
