Lol, I was really suspending my disbelief till you laid it out like that. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Maybe he ejected in the smoke/debris of that first building the Batwing flew through/collided with as it exited the city. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Saw it again last night...

I believed in Christopher Nolan.

I can get through/around all the plot and story stuff.  Anything is possible if batman is possible.

However Bane's Voice repeatedly and consistently ruined my enjoyment.  His vocals did not realistically blend at all and were un-enjoyable.  They were more a distraction than an asset IMO.  How is a vocal sound like that even possible on an open crowded street or amidst other people talking normally.  It constantly reminded me that he was fake and so was the movie I was watching.

If the audience can't understand the dialog, then there is no need to write any.
Heck, having the character make pig grunting noises behind the mask would work just as well...and cut screenwriting costs to boot.
Incredibly stupid move by Nolan.rolleyes.gif

I get it...the character has the mask on so he can be fed copious amounts of pain-killer...
OK, fine, Bane needs his meds.
Why the hell not use oral or intravenous delivery systems so the audience can hear what he says?
Other comic book characters have had masks and we can make out the dialog just fine.

Did I say how f*cking idiotic Nolan is?
I don't know of a directer currently working who pulls more "look at me" stuff than this guy.

Had his dialogue been more "clear", you'd have people go "pffft it's not even realistic, dude's wearing a mask!" - either way it would have made the "top 50 reasons TDKR sucks" list.

Regarding Bane's dialog, FilmMixer touched on this in another thread and posted a link and some quotes from Nolan. It can be found in post #3919 of this thread.
Just to be clear, my issue is not with his muffled or difficult to hear voice due to the mask or his accent etc.

It was actually the contrary, the voice was recorded and mixed unnaturally loud and present. This was on purpose for effect or whatever, but when everyone else's dialog is "normal" an Bane's is 5-10db hot it sticks out. I cant say for sure but i also remember his voice being mixed more de-localized or omnipresent as to lend more emphasis on it.......

It was over the top for me, it detracted from my enjoyment, its my opinion, nothing more.

Despite my respect for Nolan's genius, I agree that Nolan made a big mistake in burdening Tom Hardy's Bane with a thick accent and then covering his mouth with a mask, a combination which resulted in making a large percentage of Bane's lines incomprehensible. I have no idea what Nolan was thinking when he decided to do this but the decision was a big mistake, it seems to me. That said, I still think that The Dark Knight Rises was a fine film. Although it was not as good as the earlier two films in Nolan's Batman Trilogy, I still gave it 8 Stars out of 10.

Except for a line or two, I had no problem with the dialogue. I watched it at the Arclight Cinerama Dome, which is not an IMAX. Perhaps the problem is with the IMAX mix?

Thanx for that.
Quoting from your link:

Movieweb actually deliver a direct quote from Nolan in which he suggests Bane is going to remain every bit as hard to hear once the full film is released. They asked:
Are we going to be able to understand anything Bane says?

Nolan replied:
Probably not. He has the mask on, the apparatus, and he has the accent

Like I said...a f*cking idiot.rolleyes.gif

Could be....I don't know.

Not sure, but another AVSer and I saw an early screening at the Universal IMAX and both of us had trouble understanding some of Bane's dialog.
I didn't hear a lot of Bane's dialog either and didn't see the IMAX version. I agree with what NicksHitachi says as well. It was peculiar. But in the theater where I saw it I didn't get a very good surround experience either. There were only maybe 2 or 3 times that I heard anything coming from behind me; I had a good seat, and the most noticeable time was when the bat was flying into a scene from over my right shoulder (don't remember exactly which scene). Anywho, I still enjoyed the movie and it will be added to my Blu ray collection when it's released. cool.gif

I saw the movie subtitled, that of course help alot, but I didnt find Banes dialouge anywere near as bad as what the IMAX crowd speaks of.

To me, Bane's voice was CLEARLY dubbed and likely to make him understandable. I got what he said about 80% of the time upon first viewing and 90% of the time upon my second viewing.

My wife said she barely understood him at all throughout and kept asking me what he said.
The IMAX version was sold out this weekend, so I watched the standard version. I didn't have any trouble understanding Bane's dialog, but it sounded like a weird Sean Connery impression to me.

And that should tip you off how stupid Nolan's sound design "aesthetic" really was....

Somebody needs to say it....unequivocally: Nolan screwed the pooch with TDKR and Bane.

Right Here is where we determine who is a CN fanboy, and who is objective.
I'll start 2 columns in a few days....
Well at least there wasn't any overdone lens flare effects. That would've been just horrible.

I am an unabashed Christopher Nolan fanboy but still agree with you that he didn't do a good job of handling the Bane character's dialog. Despite his (relatively minor) mistake here, I still think the guy is a genius.

Funny! That is exactly what I thought during the movie. Kind of distracted me, I kept picturing Sean Connery's, Bond face, saying the lines to Batman. Found myself cuckling in certain parts of the movie where one should not be chuckling...eek.gif

Yeah, really smile.gif.

Although I'm anxious to hear Bane's audio from the BR on my home system I'm more excited to hear the LFE.

LOL! That would be a great feature: Bane-only subtitles.

Yeah, I am looking forward to getting The Dark Knight Rises BD too. Subtitles should be a huge help and the film's soundtrack should sound great on a good HT audio system. I wonder if the BD will retain the OAR of the IMAX sequences? I saw the film in an IMAX theater and it seemed to me that it contained a lot of IMAX.
