Anton Chigurh was completely unpredictable, except that we knew he would keep on killing, sometimes for self-preservation, sometimes on a whim. Equally whimsically, Chigurh would occasionally let someone live based on the flip of a coin. As Carson Wells (Woody Harrelson) asked him, shortly before Chigurh killed Wells too, "Do you have any idea how crazy you are?" The answer was that Chigurh didn't know, which makes clear that we certainly don't know either. Chigurh's killing of the bird was no more and no less surprising, to me at least, than any of the many other killings we watched him commit.

That's probably a more plausible assessment of him
