Well I hope I can make sense of this and make it clear enough that I can get some help from you guys/girls.
I am very technically savvy as well as know what I am doing with wiring and electronic setup, however, this one has me stumped, so here we go...
I have a 50" Zenith Z50PJ240 Plasma TV capable of 5.1 surround when using the digital outputs (Optical, Digital, HDMI).
I have a Pioneer HTS-GS1, also capable of 5.1 Surround
I have an XBox Elite.
The Box was ran to the TV with an HDMI Cable, Then from the TV Optical out to the Optical in on the Pioneer HTS. Mute the TV, set the Pioneer to Auto and I should be good. Nope, Auto doesnt pick up on the dobly digital so it defaults it to stereo. I can set it to Dolby ProLogic II, but that in reality is only 4.1 surround. So I figured hmm, Ill hook up the optical from the xbox to the optical on the Pioneer HTS, set it to auto, and bam, I have True Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. Why is this???
Furthermore, the reason I hook up this way is rather than using the HTS as the switch for my audo, I use the TV which has more inputs, which then I only have to run (1) wire from the TV to the HTS and All my sound should transmit digital from the TV to the HTS. My HD channels, my Wii and my DVD player are also hooked up this way and the system will not pick up on Dolby Digital on Auto.
Is it my fiber optic cable im using with the TV? (its really thin)
Is it the TV?
Can the HTS just not decode the TV's Digital Signal?
I know its alot, but please, any help/advice would be great? Thanks
