1. Re-buffering. Please, figure this out ASAP as it distracts from the experience immensely. I am using a LAN connection, the movies I am watching are BD folders from a Samba share. I had zero problems with a Mac Mini using XBMC/Boxee 0.9 or a PopBox.

2. Ability to specify which "Shows" or "Movies" we see by just clicking the top level. I want to click and see my media, not all media by default. This should be an option. Yes I know I can delve a bit to get my media, but a configurable option makes it easier and customizable for people.

Aside from those two issues, everything else has been fine thus far.

Please try this - when you see the rebuffering, seek forward (press right on the remote). Does this solve the problem? (This is just for testing, not the proper way ofc).

When I go to hulu.com via the browser and login (I have a Hulu+ account) I can play videos but they're limited to 480p -- this was NOT the case during the past week (yes, I was a Box beta tester) -- I was getting 720p and it was GREAT. Today, not so much so, Boxee, hurry up and bring on the real Hulu+ stuff.

Thanks. Whats the screen resolution from Fancast?

Eli,
Is this the forum that users should post issues to?

http://forums.boxee.tv/

If not, could you link the correct one?

Is anyone else having trouble with the scraping? I have all of my movies in seperate folders in .vob format. Boxee software, media browser seem to be just fine with it. But with the BB, I only get 1 movie to show up. When I go back into scan the folder, I get a msg "Are you sure you want to do this, it was just scanned 59 minutes ago. 0 files identified, 0 files remaining"

any ideas?

You can upgrade from a USB stick as well. Please see the forum for instructions.

I saw on the post early in this thread the "Naming Conventions" for files. I would assume this is so it can go out to NetLand somewhere and find thumbs and descriptions?

This will be no problem for me for my MKV files, but what about DVDs of TV series?

Is it any good at getting data for what shows are on what disk?

Example, I am an ultimate trek-head. I have DVDs of every Trek show and movie ever made.

It's currently stored on a NAS like this:

\\\\NAS\\TV Shows\\Star Trek\\Star Trek The Next Generation\\Season 1\\Disk 1.iso

etc. Will it be able to get good information on stuff like that?

No one? Please?

Did you read the link on the first post? Here is the excerpt concerning TV Shows:

After setting up your media sources Boxee will start to retrieve artwork and information, based on how your media files are named.
There is a specific way you must name your movie files and your TV shows and episodes for the function to work correctly.

For correct names of Movies and TV shows, please refer to IMDB.com.

TV Shows

TV Shows' file names are usually consisted of the show's name, the season (usually indicated by the letter "S", or just the number), the episode (usually indicated by the letter "E", or just the number), the episode's title, and some more info regarding the quality and source of the file.

Boxee currently supports the following types of naming conventions for tv shows.

Show.Title.S##E##.info.extension (double digits are required: S#E# will not work.)
Examples:

* The.Sopranos.S02E01.avi
* Entourage.S05E01.avi

Show.Title.#x##.info.extension
Examples:

* How.I.Met.Your.Mother.1x01.Pilot.avi
* The.Office.02×02.stuff.avi

Please note: Adding the series' release year in the file will help resolve remakes and TV shows with similar names
(please refer to IMDB.com to find the correct release year of the show)

The same as free Hulu I think -- I believe Fancast is just a backdoor to Hulu

Yeah, that's the post I was referring to. However, my question is about Multi-episode DVDs. Like TV shows where 4 to 10 episodes are on one DVD.

How would one name that such that the scrape includes info on all 4 shows, so that I know which disk contains which episode?

sorry to be off topic but have you tried the new flash interface for the c-200?

Ok feeling dumb at the moment but how do you get Boxee Box to add your samba share. I see my PC name as a Samba share then it prompts for a Username and password. I assume that would be my Win 7 user login info which I entered. From there it just asks for my username and password again. I did reset the Boxee Box and am using the latest firmware. Also using Windows 7 Home Premium. Anyone else have this issue and corrected it.

Probably not what you want to hear, but have you considered ripping individual episodes to MKV, or similar? That way you have individual files to scrape on IMDB versus a disk?

May be OT but Damian's guide might help:

After my problem where I had audio but no video, the factory reset did the trick.....for about 15 minutes. Now I'm back to no video again.

Slates: Thx... I was afraid of that. Most of my stuff is ripped to MKV, but I like the iso format better since it has all the extras and (working) subtitles and all that... Oh, well!

Where on the forum is the firmware to download to a USB stick? My friend has his BB hooked up and after the starting Boxee Box animation the screen goes gray and just stays there. Doing a factory reset gives an error. Want to try and upgrade via USB.
Not only the 1.0 update didn't change anything to the inability to stream my 1080p files, but I find the new UI a step back from the previous version. I am really disappointed with the product and will return it. Boxee is a great software, but this box is way too buggy/slugish.

i couldn't find it either so i tried a 4th factory reset. this time i unplugged all cables and power from the box and let it sit for a few minutes.

the first 3 times i tried to factory reset it never even booted to v0.9 it just went straight to attempting to dl the update, which obviously failed 3 times with over 2 hours of waiting total. this 4th time it finally booted v0.9 and allowed me to login to my acct. i had to go manually get the update - it never prompted me and seemed perfectly content with running 0.9. maybe if i had waited a little longer it would have prompted me to update.

so i'm back up and running...

It only took a few minutes for mine to download AND update.

I have same issue, uncorrected. I'm assuming user error, but this as obvious as the Pentagon budget right now.

EDIT: I need to clarify.... I have followed the directions at

http://boxee.zendesk.com/entries/325...-media-sources

with the same result... The fields just keep popping up again and again.

I really want to get my hands on the update file so I can try via usb. My bbox would not even boot past the cube intro video since I got it, and when I try a factory restore I get error 0x314. Flashing via USB is the one thing I want to try before going through the amazon replacement process.

I've tried two MKVs now. AVatar with 5.1 DTS-HD MA and Kick Ass with 7.1 DTS-HD MA.
I watched around 15 minutes of Avatar and around 50 minutes of Kick Ass. Both 1080P and both over my network. The Boxee Box played them flawlessly. Skipping forward and backward is also very fast. The fastest I've seen any media player do it.

Although my problem is my media is in BD ISOs which so far I have not found one that would play on the Boxee Box out of around 25 I've tried so far.

EDIT: I just found one that played. the "9" BD ISO.
The scanning is pretty quick too when compared to how long it took my C200 to scan last night with it's new firmware. I only started it scanning my main BD ISO folder less than 10 minutes ago and it already has dozens of titles and cover art from it.

Hi burk3,

We will post instructions and the required files soon.

Well, got mine set up and running. Seems to be playing pretty much anything I throw at it. The only problem so far is a lot of my .m4v video files give me a black screen but I can hear the audio.

The fan is barely audible. If I wasn't really trying to listen for it I probably wouldn't even notice it.

Hi aaronwt,

Which software are you using to create those ISOs? Was the "9" ISO created with the same one?

Eli.
OK, just set up the Boxee Box. Very easy and only took a few minutes to upgrade.

- I confirmed what others have, DTS(MA) bitstreams, TrueHD comes out as PCM (I guess on the bright side that does mean that TrueHD is being decoded)
- tested a few mkvs and BR Folders. I only went maybe 10-30 seconds deep, a couple of stutters but cannot confirm that it isn't the Boxee Box being bogged down by the library scan going on in the background
- So far all my movies have been properly recognized

Trying to get comfortable with it, but there are a few things bugging me:

- No back button per se. For example if I am in the Files section and then from there go into my Movies, when I click back the toolbar just appears at the top of the screen, where I would expect to be taken back to the Files section.
- All those freakin online movies that show up (over 1,000). There has to be an option to disable them from even showing up. Right now I just want to see my local content, and for online content I can just head over to the Apps sections.
- Although not horrible, having to drill down once to get to my local content (Videos, Music, Photos) is an unnecessary extra step
- Not a huge deal but on the remote only one ALT button at bottom left (you hold down if entering numbers). Would have been nice to have one at bottom left and one at bottom right (i.e. awkward trying to hold the ALT button and press numbers on the left side)

Right now I am just letting the Boxee Box scan everything in before I do more testing. In many ways the UI is how I expected but there is just something not quite sitting right with me. The Boxee Box undoubtedly blows away the stock UI of any other player out there, but I am worried it is going to fee like a maze trying to navigate around
