I would think that it is a design flaw/bug if bb associates all the movie files in the sub-folders with the folder.jpg of the parent folder. Especially since the parent folder does not have any video files.

The Boxee Box doesn't seem to be able to play these files. I tried with, and without having the Dolby Digital Plus capable receiver box checked. Sometimes I get the "Failed to initalize Audio Device" error and sometimes the DD+ light on my receiver just blinks on and off and the sound never plays.

I get sound from the file while playing it in the newest XBMC release.

Here is a sample http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15258218/DDPlusSkip.mkv

Do you have the matched frame rate option checked? This can cause issues like you described. When I uncheck mine so it has 1080p 60 output it is fine for me.

EDIT: I'm not talking about those specific HD DVDs, just in general the MKVs I created from my HD DVDs

No, you can't do that. Each file has to be separate.

However, I fooled the BB by creating SYMLINKS.

Since the lion's share of my library is DVDs of TV shows, and each DVD has anywhere from 4 to 8 episodes per disk, this is what I did:

In this way, the Boxee THINKS it is seeing a different file per episode (37 episodes), but there's actually only 10 actual files being used.

Also note that this method requires VERY LITTLE space; about 48 bytes per link.

If your server allows for this, it might help you.

Yeah, that's what happens to most things. If it is important to you I suggest resubmitting once every month - eventually someone may want to implement it once the current rush is over.

Indeed, randomly picking categories and not showing material is really handy

Not sure if its a bug, but I'd certainly agree with you that its a design flaw.
The file is called FOLDER, so the way the WDTV does it by having it be the image for the FOLDER makes sense, whereas using it as image for a lot of files doesn't.

You sure about that? I don't have a Boxee Box to test, but if it's anything like XBMC and TheTVDB, you can do this:

Tv.Show.S01E01-E02.Name.of.the.Show.1.Name.of.the.Show.2

And it'll work just fine, it'll combine the descriptions and titles of the two episodes together and it'll look like one episode.

It's a Swedish company. It may be available outside nordic countries but I wouldnt know. Try emailing them...

I thought he was wanting one FILE to look like MULTIPLE episodes, not merge multiple show data into a single episode.

Thanks for the link. I checked the thread and couldn't find any mention of Shaun of the Dead. Van Helsing did return some results with regards to errors. Replies indicated that these were fixed though.

I have the matched frame rate option checked. I'll try unchecking it when I get home. The file did play fine in XBMC Dharma, although I was just playing it through my computer speakers and not my receiver.

Ya, now we know where all the returns are going. $150 or so is not really that great of a price. I expect that will be retail price on a new one before too long.
Only reason the prices are so high is because the seller has 1 bidder pushing up the prices on all his units. Think I'll pass on them

Yeah, that's what that does:

Tv.Show.S01E01-E02.Name.of.the.Show.1.Name.of.the.Show.2.avi

A single file, containing two episodes. This happens when TV Shows get released on DVD and what is actually two episodes (Production-wise and TVDB-wise) gets aired and burned to the DVD as a single double length episode. Friends, ER, Grey's Anatomy all do this, especially for season finales.

Regardless of whether this particular seller has an accomplice jacking prices up, I don't feel that a completed listing average price of $125-$135 is that unreasonable. That's an absolute steal considering the Popbox back up to $150 on Amazon, no?

That being said, from a moral standpoint, I was appalled, so i did sent the seller a note, essentially asking them to justify such behavior. The gist was that if they were looking for a minimum selling price, do it the organic way and set a reserve. Perhaps they are afraid that will drive away potential interest?

I feel the same way in that it is a pretty decent price but his actions are a bit shady. If he had buy it now for that price I would probably be all over it. He is trying to get the best of both worlds though, at least covering his cost and the potential to make more

Absolutely...Look, it's a business, and the guy has a right to make money. Is it proper behavior? Certainly not, although I guess if folks are biting while still perceiving a deal, then they're biting. I just wanted to make sure that someone called them out on it, obvious though it may be.

Because if you have letterboxed content, playing that on a widescreen TV, you will have something like this: http://www.photo-to-dvd.com/images/t...-pillarbox.jpg

Not the best example, but the only one I could find.

I actually asked Eli about this feature, but was told that because video is decoded on hardware this couldn't/wouldn't be done...

I'd gladly vote on it though, just need to know the JIRA link...

No, this is for multiple episodes that are released on DVDs as single episodes (or a "title"), either "downloaded" from scene releases or self-ripped by title instead of disc. In your case, symlinks are a good way to do accomplish what your setup is, a DVD ISO of a season containing about 4-5 episodes.

Yes, that's it exactly. I don't think most people understand the issue since DVD players typically handle this automatically in the hardware.

The link to the JIRA request is here;

I won two this weekend. I paid too much on my first one because I was in a hurry and not paying attention. The second one I got for much less.

One of their first auctions started around $155 with a Buy it Now price of $175. it didn't sell. Then their auctions started at one cent.

The way I see it, if they don't sell, they don't sell. That's the risk one takes on an auction site. I know there are myriad ways to game the system, and again, I know the guy is just looking to cover his business, but there are more honest ways of conducting the deal than to artificially raise prices.

That said, the price is still so enticing, i may end up with one yet. Just waiting until year's end, as I stated earlier.

eBay has a very strict policy about shilling on auctions, if there is a shilling pattern involved they will suspend the seller's account or take other action. However this only works if someone takes the time to report the auctions to eBay.

Well, the "jacker", if I might call them that, has placed over 60 bids on this guy's Boxee Boxes over the past 24 hours, with 98% of their bid activity over the past 30 days going to this seller. hopefully, ebay is getting notification.

he let the last one sell for $122. Not too shabby of a price with shipping only $10

I wonder where this seller got them all from as he has a ton for sale as open box

For the benefit of people searching:

Using folder.png for the WDTV LIVE does NOT appear to influence the Boxee Box in any way.

I re-formatted my JPGs as PNGs instead, and all of the problems I described above are GONE.

Again, jmpage2, ph8te, an others: Thanks for your patience and for guiding me down the road!
