I have two units and this morning neither will connect to my media files on my MAC. Nothing has been changed on the computer and they share files still show up on Boxee. Has anyone else had this problem?

They worked fine last night and don't work this morning.

Is this with ISO or MKV? If with MKV then when the file is ripped you need to make sure that forced subtitles are put into their own subtitle track and the "Forced" attribute is set.

MakeMKV by default now will put forced subtitles into their own subtitle track, but it does not set the forced attribute. You could then take the outputted MKV, put it into MKVMerge, and set the forced attribute for the forced subs there, and then re-output the file.

Once forced attribute is set on a subtitle track, boxee will respect this and play the forced subs automatically, which is a great feature.

If both units are behaving the same way, the problem is likely on your network or on the Mac itself.

i have tried like 30 apps and I just want want them to slow down my BB

Apps are only "installed" at runtime and are purged after reboot, or after the Boxee runs out of space for them.

You won't slow the box down with apps that I have observed.

Thanks I'll take a look.

Edit - Ok I found several instances of it and it looks good but how do you get it on a dlink boxee box?

Edit 2- This might do it

The "apps" are probably something like xml front-ends or whatever the correct term is. Like light web browsers I would assume, tailored for the specific site/content.

Is anyone using this device through Homeplugs? Does it cope with the reduced lan speed OK?

For example my XTreamer only plays 20-40mbps media via NFS, and not SMB... This may be due to my homeplugs!?

I hit the button on the bottom and enter my search criteria in the window that shows "Search or URL"
I know it will find any of my content that I have the Boxee Box set to scan. But also all my content is on my network. When I use an attached USB drive I go to the specific file to play it.

I tried the search or url,but the only thing is I did not set any of my drives for BB to scan.
so looks like for the search to work, need to add all of the hard drives to scan. will have to test it out....

I apologize for all my network questions but I continue to be baffled.

If I transfer a file from my network attached storage drive it transfers at 6-8 MB/s.

Unless I am mistaken, for an 8gb 100 minute 1080p video, this should be plenty of bandwidth for any device to play the file flawlessly. Yet, with the boxee box sitting in the same room, attached via the ethernet port to an Apple Airport Express that file occasionally stutters, especially in a few high bitrate scenes.

Now, I know it is to be expected for a high bitrate section to struggle, but if I'm getting 6MB/s capabilities from the storage device shouldn't the Boxee Box be able to handle just about anything that an 8gb 100 minute file can throw at it?

Thanks for the help.

I don't know anything about apple products but with my win 7 machine I had to change some registry settings to get consistent fast speed. Someone here will know the ansmwer.

What is the bitrate of the file? Remember its not the.size, but the bitrate that determines how much bandwidth you need. Also just because you can transfer at that doped doesn't mean its consistant. Streaming a movie is much less forgiving to interference.

Guys, is there a way to manually force an immediate scan. Boxee just seems to mark a folder for scanning and I'm not sure when it would start. I have the folders set for daily scan. Looks like there should be an option for run now as well.

When you go to browse and are in that folder. There are icons on the top right. The first icon there should initiate a scan.

Also if you go to file sources you can initiate a scan there too.

But you still have to pay use tax on your purchases from Amazon, so you're ultimately paying $4 more to have it next day than it costs to pick it up today in the store. The only states that are exempt are Alaska, New Hampshire, Montana, Oregon and Delaware. Might as well buy the box in the store if it's available.

Of course, that's assuming you're being truthful when you file your taxes.

In the file sources menu you can force a scan if you enter each source you have added, and there's an icon in the top right of every local file screen that will force a scan of all the sources. It seems the Box takes "scan now" pretty loosely, though, as you can force a scan and not have it run for hours. It seems to wait until it thinks it'll be idle or something, as far as I can tell.

It works for me. I either select the icon at the top or hit the rescan in the file sources area and it starts scanning right away for me. As long as it isn't already in the process of scanning something else. If it is then it needs to wait for the other source to finish scanning.

I've been doing this for the past couple of weeks since i ripped around ninety BD titles in that time period. It was working on both of my Boxes.

Lately I have been experiencing an issue where my BB will randomly drop its internet connection for a few minutes at a time . The box is hardwired straight to my router, and I have confirmed that the router is still sending out a valid signal even when the BB's connection goes out. Had anyone had this problem, and are there any common fixes in the network settings? I an on the latest RC firmware.

Ok will try that option. But there is a way to specify a time of the day when that scan occurs daily? Dont want to scan hourly for sure.
Also, does the scanning occur in sleep mode?

No, there is no way to specify a specific time for daily scanning. I believe by default it runs every night close to midnight. It does not hamper playback that I have seen. The box does not scan in sleep mode that I have seen.

The addition of hourly scanning was done to appease those who were angry about daily scanning not scanning often enough for them.

We need more scanning options, certainly.

There is no way to specify the time for daily scans. Hourly scans work nicely, but seem like a bit of overkill. In either case, the box will not scan when it is in "sleep" mode, even though when the device is in sleep mode the only thing that's powered down is the video output. Since it's there sucking power anyway you'd think they'd let it scan, but that's not the case.

What I would like is if it supported XBMC's external "Update Library" notification. This is a nice feature where you can trigger library scans externally and on-demand from another machine. Then you can cause scans to occur only when new items are added to the library. It's built into a number of download clients and I think even some NAS OSs.

the folders i have set for daily scanning seem to run based on when I first started it. I have some that do daily scanning at 8Am, 5Pm, 8PM, midnight etc.

When you have all 5 hard drives hooked up does the boxee see all 5 at the same time? When you go to your "movies" section and does it put all the movies on all 5 hard drives on one list?

How do you know when it's scanning. There's no msg about that correct? Unless you went into settings and happened to check it.
When you go into 'Settings', you'll see "Identifying..." next to the folder/share being scanned. What I wish Boxee would do is pick up any new folder.jpg's & movie NFO's I've just put it w/o having to complete erase the database/thumbs and initiate a full re-scan.
It also shows the time and date of the last time it was scanned.

Wow, does it really do that! No wonder all my movies did not show up for about an hour and I kept on troubleshooting where hey vanished. Re-setup the folder and they showed up again in an hour! What a silly process and one that I wouldn't have guessed. I wish that changes as well.

Got it up and running yesterday night. Thanks guys, looks like I've got a lot to learn on BB.

Coming from Popbox, I'm liking BB quite a lot. Looks far more stable but miss some common buttons on the remote. The keypad is very helpful though. Wish it were backlit though.

Real time scanning will not happen, as it was to process intensive for the BB. The comprimise is hourly scanning which does work most of the time. I know if I add something to the attached HDD, then it will be added without any interventio by myself at the next scheduled scan. Also, remember that if you are watching a movie\\video during the scheduled scan time then it will not scan for you, I believe it skips to the next hour.
