So they fixed the distorted audio issue that would cause your volume to spike unexpectedly and run the risk of damaging your speakers in the first 1.5 beta, broke it in the second beta, and what do they do for the production release they force to everyone? They break it again and since you can't avoid the update without jumping through hoops, the issue is now back and threatening to break my damn speakers at random. I swear it's either incompetence or not caring on team Boxee's part but either one is making me really hate this thing and the fact that there are no better options for an all in one solution.

When does this issue occur? I haven't run into it on any of my boxes.
Yeah, when I was using HDMI I never had this issue but since I moved the HDMI to the Dune D1 for no dropout playback of HD audio so the Boxee Box is connected by optical now. They fixed it in the first 1.5 beta, then it came back in the second 1.5 beta and they shockingly released it as the production version. If they can't regression test or figure out how to release non-buggy firmwares they need to make updates optional so people who have working boxes for what they want to use it for like I did on the first 1.5 beta can decline future updates.

This is interesting, just read your post this morning wondering what that is about. This evening while testing an old separate 2ch Amp via my receivers pre-outs I've experienced the same issue. I was watching a DTS encoded mkv and when I paused it my main speakers started a high pitched buzzing at very high volume. I panicked and unplugged the new amp, then started testing to find the problem being convinced that the problem was the amp. Turns out it only did it in pause mode as it switched to stereo, DTS was fine. Restarted the boxee and everything is fine again. Is this similar to what you were experiencing? I've never had this happen till now, could this be a coincidence?
After installing the new version I wanted to check out the Apps. While some do not populate the icon and I am scrolling down, the screen will go Black then the main menu will appear.
well that sucks,i just ordered one of these boxee for my brother.his old onkyo only has optical and coaxil for audio.the audio spikes happen on everything played with optical cable?
Well it was fixed in the previous beta then they broke it in the following beta and I guess released that as the production version so hopefully they will fix it soon.
mine came in today.just wanna say wow.i didnt think this was going to be something like xbmc.i mean i know the team behind it but i thought it was going to be different.to me it operates like xbmc.i like this.i did hear the distortion in audio on 2 files.hope it gets fixed.the guide runs smoother than my wdtv live streamer(bedroom) everything in menu looks smother than wdtv live streamer.how do u search for local files with keyboard? it only searches for online content.i noticed home videos recorded from camcorder looked way better on wdtv live plus than boxee.
Is there a fix for Blu Ray buffering from iso? My main streamer is my Popbox. I have NO issues whatsoever streaming ANY Blu Ray iso from my server (2008 R2,CAT6 1Gb LAN, RAID5 eSATA enclosure tested at 105MB/s Read Rate over SMB).
I just played Transformers 3 FLAWLESSLY on my Popbox. I unhooked the Popbox, plugged in the Boxee using the same Ethernet connection, played Transformers 3 and every 1-2 minutes, the movie would pause and I would get a white progress bar, then the movie would play again. This happened to Avatar as well. Once again, played FLAWLESSLY with my Popbox, same symptoms with the Boxee.
I have the latest firmware on the Boxee.
Is this typical? If so, it is going back TOMORROW!

I don't know if it's typical but it is a known issue for some people. It has been reported as fixed in jira on earlier firmwares but I still get buffering on some blu-ray iso files in all of the 1.5 firmwares. I have a Dune player and get no buffering on the same files using the same connection. I am using win server 2003 R2 and have tried a bunch of different brand nic cards and the built-in nic. Also have changed switches, routers, cables and settings. I had some network savvy friends over to check my settings but no luck. I can't recall which earlier version of the firmware it was, but before the SMB rewrite I had no buffering on the same files. Some of my hardware test changes made it worse but none stopped the buffering entirely. I ripped my blu-ray discs with anydvd hd and just a few buffer. Some here don't have any buffering at all and some claim it is an improperly configured network or bad rips. Don't know really. Seems like if an earlier firmware did not buffer the newer one shouldn't. Also don't know if they are even looking at this as an issue any more. Most of my files play fine, but a few that did play right won't play on the new firmware without buffering. I love this box, I wish it would get sorted out. By the way the same files play without buffering on an attached external drive so I think that rules out a bad rip. I ripped the same discs again but it didn't help.

It's a SMB issue if you're housing your videos on a windows box.
You can roll back to one of the June releases (ends in 19250) or use NFS (i've heard of a few problems with NFS, but Im not sure its related. My friends UnRaid server doesn't have the issues I do).

Neither my WHS or my unRAID has any buffering issues with my BD ISOs(Full rips) over SMB to my three Boxee Boxes. I know some people have had issues but I'm not seeing them on my boxes.
When I watch content on Vee HD through the Navi-X app, I get quite a bit of buffering. I have it hard wired via Cat6 to my router. This buffering drives me nuts! Anyone else experience this on Vee HD?

Can't access BB forums from work....just thought that someone here could check their BB and let me know...AVS has always been better than other forums....
