What is Fanart for movie? Can you explain a bit about video feed in main menu? I have Boxee plus installed earlier today and have not noticed the two features you mentioned. Thanks.
Ahhh...I missed the posts prior to mine. Any major gotcha's or issues with the port? Do you know if it improves Nav-x buffering issues? I find Navi-x is so much faster in XBMC on my laptop.

When you bring up a movie to play on the Boxee you get a thumbnail and a description of the movie. If you have a fanart.jpg pic in the movie's folder it will appear as a background for the movie's
metadata. These fanart pics are made by people to spice up the onscreen look and make the user experience more pleasurable. A typical fanart pic might be based off a poster or advertising
for the movie. You must manually, or by using some program like Ember Media Manager, insert fanart pic in each movie folder, Boxee won't do that automatically. It must be named fanart.jpg to
work.
The main menu enhancement can reflect your recently viewed content instead of the recommended home screen content Boxee recommends. Say you watch a few movies, they will show up on
the homepage in the lower panel featured section rather than the ones Boxee pushes. My experience is that these can take some time to load so if you scroll quickly from the home screen to another
screen they won't have time to load. When you've watched a few things and the box has been on a few minutes navigate back to the home screen and your recently viewed content should show up.
There is a new feature in the works that will boot the Boxee straight to your preferred screen, say movies or files or apps, etc.
The author is going to try and add a different and possibly configurable scrapper to the mix. I sure hope he can do it. Anything would be better than the current Boxee scrapper and we won't have worry about them
shutting down or maintaining their servers. Anyway, with a customizable scrapper you could download nfo, fanart, and whatever else you want in your metadata.
I thought the current one worked great? It picks up my NFOs, coverart and fan art with very few issues. I recently re-scanned my 1500+ BD ISOs and my Boxee Boxes only had three titles that I had to have it identify. No idea why I've always had an issue with those same titles though. Two of them are Doctor Who titles. But problems with only 3 titles out of 1500+ is very good.

That is certainly an impressive batting average but in essence you had already done the scrapping for it. My point was that on its own, it is less accurate than many other tools attempting the same task and is extremely slow. My gf's Boxee Box continually quits and has to be restarted when scraping or gets sluggish then simply locks up, mine less so. Aside from the minor issue with the good Doctor, apparently you have done a better job than we have of dotting all your i's and crossing all your t's. That has been one of the most frustrating things about the Boxee, the inconsistency of experience across the user base. One of my friends has almost no problems with his except the dreaded audio dropouts. We have noted that his runs consistently cooler than either of ours which are in well-ventilated spots. Perhaps a simple thing like some carelessly applied thermal paste may be behind some of the problems users have? Scrapping aside, as Boxee official support has dwindled it will be good to have an independent means of keeping our boxes up and running with new features and hopefully, a few bug fixes.
Installed the boxee plus and it seems to not be freezing anymore, which is great. I'll monitor it a couple more days.
It's funny - many have said that, but I've had the opposite experience. I rarely had freeze-ups before and I had several in the past few days since I installed the hack.
did you leave your box on 24/7 and rarely had freeze ups? Because that's what I'm referring to. My box has been on since I installed and it's been very snappy. Before, if on for more than a day it sometimes became completely unusable

the benefit is that it doesn't freeze as much. sleep isn't power saving mode. the box doesn't draw much power anyway, so power talks are moot.
I'm glad that's working out for you. What an unpredictable mess Boxee and D-link created with this thing. I never had any freezing issues back when I was using my Boxee Box regularly.
There's no real benefit to putting the Boxee Box in sleep mode - it draws just as much power in sleep mode as it does in normal operation.

Goes to sleep on its own after a while anyway. Like I said, I never had a problem with it freezing - maybe 5 times in the two years I've had it. And the freezing seems to have stopped with Boxee+ now for me.
Looking for some advice on how to improve my current setup and how to enhance it with future technologies. I am in Canada and have the following setup;A Boxee Box, An IMac, an Unblockus acct, an HD antenna (that gets a few channels) and a triple service gateway through my ISP.
I like the Boxee Box because;
The wife can manage it
Minimal configuration (I barely know what a default gateway is... much less how to manage the router and setup port forwarding!!)
the apps
Netfilx (becuase the kids have specific programming and the wife can easily navigate it)
The browser
I LOVED Navi-X (When it was available as an App and not freezing. IT is no longer an available app on my Boxee)
I dont like the Boxee Box because
it won't play online content from CityTv and other sites ABC, etc.
The freezing has been a minor issue but still an issue.
I would be 95% happy if I could access the major american and canadian network sites (online) to catch a few shows (that would make the wife happy too). I don't mind the commercials when viewing content online. I've followed all of the discussion about the future of Boxee and i'm just not seeing an alternative that meets the 'i like because' list. so it's a matter of the lesser of all evils... I've looked at XBMC but i'm just not sure how to get it from my IMac to the TV upstairs (can it be done through the boxee, I hate the idea of an Apple Tv because they charge for everything...)

lots of informative discussion here!

Hi There, Nav-X is still available, but you have to add this repository to get it back - dir.fuzzthed.com
The problem with CityTV etc is they upgraded their flash version for streaming. Boxee is still using an older version of Flash which hasn't been updated in some time. They have stated they are going to update Boxee Box with a maintenance update to bring Flash to a higher level, but who knows when they'll get around to doing that.
You may be able to get rid of the freezing problem, by doing a factory restore and re-applying the latest firmware. Some people have said applying Boxee+ has fixed stability problems.
