Guys how's it work as an OTA tuner, that's all I'm after. Program guide, channel lists etc?

Cheers

So i have had a total of 2 boxee's go bad to my bad judgement they were refurbs.

Im looking to move up to a PCH-A400

I use the boxee in file mode and find the movies i want using the text dont really ever use the juke box functions or movie art.
I am frustrated by the slow UI and the slow start times of the boxee. Will i be happy with the A400?

I'm not sure that going to a PCH is a "move up" from the Boxee Box. Does PCH even have an integrated jukebox that's worth a damn?

I use the PCH jukebox more than the Boxee Box. I can browse my titles from my FireHD tablets. Which is the main reason I'm using my A400s alot more and my Boxee Boxes alot less. On the tablets It has the cover art and fan art as well as a synopsis etc. And I can start playback from the tablets(there is also an IP remote you can use in the app) as well which has access to my multiple shares over my two unRAIDs and a WHS(you have this capability using NMJToobox2 when adding/editing to the databaase). You can also use the jukebox from the PCH400 directly, but I prefer using a tablet. Although when viewing the jukebox directly from the device, I definitely prefer my Boxee Boxes with the newest Boxee+ hacks that allow for fan art and carousel viewing.

Right now i am using a windows 7 pc and network shares to see all the movies my plan is to build a freenas server or WHS and share it from a dedicated source. Is boxee better than PC-a400? Im looking for reasons to stay with boxee but its getting hard.

I think your use case, as usual, is atypical from what most customers do. I rather doubt that most are going to use a tablet as the remote for their jukebox. I have a gorgeous interface to XBMC from my iPhone and iPad and still rarely use it when I can navigate with the remote control.

I think you should do an XBMC HTPC if you really want to be wowed with the experience (it does require more work if you want it to be as painless as a an appliance and of course it costs more). If you want a paid alternative to freenas then look into a Synology, QNAP or Netgear NAS box. WHS is deader than disco.

I don't use the tablet for the remote. I do initiate playback of the titles from the tablet, but that is on the screen with the title info, cover art, fanart, etc.. There is a button labeled "play" to start playback of any of the titles you are viewing.

I tried touch screen remotes in the early 2000's with the Phillips Pronto remotes. I found that I do not like full touchscreen remotes because you always need to look at the screen to use it. Years later, after trying numerous remotes, I got my first Harmony One remote. I finally found a remote that I felt was the best type of remote. One that has a combination of hard buttons as well as a touchscreen. Although I have not setup my A400's with my Harmony Ones yet. I'm still using the stock a400 remotes.

I've always been comfortable with the PCH remotes since I've been using the RF remote with my C200 for several years. I was afraid about going to an IR only PCH box but i found that the a400 has wider than normal usage area with the IR remote. So i don't need to point the remote directly at the A400 to use it.

EDIT: redface.gif I was thinking that this was the A400 thread. I see it's the Boxee Box thread.

That is another thing I like about my Boxee Boxes. It has a small RF remote. The only thing it's missing for me is backlighting.

aaronwt,

Would you be willing to throw up a short Vid on your set-up and how it works?

I think PCH already has a video showing how NMJ works on the tablets. I remember viewing it a few months ago before the A400 was released. Not sure where it is though, I'd have to look on the NMT forums.

EDIT: Here is a short video they released with the app on the iPAD.

Here is a longer one someone posted.

The tablet app is one of the things I really like with the PCHA400. But as I mentioned when viewing the jukebox directly from the device, I like the Boxee Box much better with carousel viewing and fanart from Boxee+.

The Boxee+ thread at the Boxee forums has pics of the jukebox pages that Boxee+ gives you.

I had a look and they're gone now...snapped up right away just like the other ones. If you're fast you can still find one right now on eBay for $89, brand new, open box though, just google eBay 321058891235. There's 3 hours or so left on the bid. Good luck.

You have to install Navi-X in your repositories in Boxee Box. Go to Apps on your main menu, then scroll down to Repositories, click on the + at the top right hand corner to add a repository. When asked to add repository URL put in: http://dir.fuzzthed.com click done and it will install. Once installed open Fuzzthed's Third Party Repository and scroll down till you find Navi-X. More info here: http://www.boxeeappreviews.com/navi-x/navi-x.html

Unfortunately PlayOn is not an option with a Mac.

Does HBO GO not work from the browser anymore? There used to be an app that essentially took you to the HBO Go website and you could log in and play from there. The App disappeared at some point, but you could still use HBO GO from the browser. This was well back last year some time tho, so things may have changed.

I'm kinda outta touch with the Boxee these days(although I do have Boxee+ loaded on the 2 boxes I have in service). I have them in the main bedroom and the guest bedroom now sorta collecting dust(they are hooked up but we do very little streaming from there) although I still use one for NHL Gamecenter.

I have my PCH A-210 on my main TV and a WD TV SMP on the secondary TV for movie viewing. For much of my streaming, I have found myself using my XBox 360 the most for things like NHL Gamecenter, Netflix, Amazon, Epix(I get a free subscription to Epix through Charter, my internet provider) and HBO GO.

Most premium content websites have become quite adept at detecting boxee boxes, google TVs and the like and blocking content from playing on them.

HBOGO never blocked Boxee Box , but since they consitantly update the version of Flash to be used, you will only ahve a short window if any to use the service...If you try the site now, youll get a screen saying you need to upgrade your flash player (at last check that is)...

Nope, definitely Boxee Box not Boxee TV! Looks like the same seller. He must have quite a few Boxees actually as he posts again as soon as they're sold, all brand new with free shipping in the U.S. Just checked and it's up again. Anyone interested Google 330870294932 on eBay or http://www.squidoo.com/best-internet-tv-streaming-live where I found it. There's 5 hours left on the bid at $99.

Anyone know how to choose the audio channel for a movie in Navi-X for Boxee Box? Some movies listed have dual audio 5.1 Hindi and English for example and I just want the English.

Just picked up a Boxee Box, not bad but when I click on some of the apps to see videos, I get in, the menu for that site shows, but says no videos found.

I can SEE and OPEN the app. It just doesn't display any content. The logo and all the buttons are there, just no thumbnails.

Also, when in the browser function, I can see some videos, but can't click on them. And the site looks very different than the site on a computer. Can a better browser be installed?

Welcome to the reality of working with an abandoned product. No, you can't install a different browser. The most you can do is install Boxee+ which is a hacks kit that provides minor improvements for a few things.

Thanks for letting me know, I guess I'm spoiled using a laptop connected to the TV, everything works.

Where is a safe place to download Boxee +?
