Well, the writing is on the wall folks, Boxee Forums has been shut down now for about two weeks and new FW is not forthcoming. If anyone has links to other active forums I will add them to the title post so that users who stick it out for a while with Boxees have a place to go to try to get answers or see what the latest is.

a few of the users at the old boxee forums have set up forums here:

http://avbox.es/forum/

and another user is trying to get the boxee subreddit up to speed with info:

WHY did Samsung buy it, and shut it down??

Do they have a competing product?

It is believed they were looking to improve their smart tv tech by acquiring Boxee. The Boxee servers are still
up and running. Last I heard there was no timetable as to its longevity. The forum is closed to new posts but
is still available for reading. If you check the new Boxee forums listed a few posts above you might find more
up to date details. Boxee+ hacks has been picked up and a new revision has been released. There is an
effort to get XBMC to run on the box. Apparently the initial progress looks promising. We'll see.

How do I know what version I'm running? I checked http://boxeeplus.com/ and the download does not say the version number (I downloaded it a few months ago)

You have an older version probably 1.4.7 the last one Solitude released. Assuming you have it installed you can find the revision number in the settings menu under
Boxee+Hacks, the general heading. The version number will on the last line with the option to check for a new version. Until you manually update to 1.4.8 or
1.4.9 (the current one) you won't be able to update online. Download the latest, it's not identified as 1.4.9 but that's what you'll get. It is still called Boxeehack-Master.zip.
Follow the instructions for using a USB thumb drive and you should be good to go. After getting the new version installed you will be able to update online when new
revisions are released. This worked fine for me although I find updating with a USB drive to be more reliable. Cigamit, the guy now writing this stuff has been working
on a more robust installer as a lot of people had trouble with the old one.

Sorry, I gave you a bum steer, go here instead : http://boxeed.in/
The page will look almost the same but the download will be different.
The correct download is 'install.zip' (not 'Boxeehack-master.zip')
Follow the directions on this site page.

For the latest XBMC Boxee Box builds http://devil-strike.com

Messing with XBMC again reminds me why I picked Boxee over XBMC.

They are not really that different Boxee is a fork of XBMC after all, if it's the UI your prefer there is an up to date Boxee skin for XBMC.

The XBMC BB version is still in very early days though, I don't think anyone should jump ship just yet.

FYI, for those of you who still rely on Boxee for the NHL Gamcenter app, it looks like you have been kicked to the curb for the upcoming season. Boxee is no longer listed on the NHL website in the (ever shrinking) list of supported devices. Luckily I kicked my Boxees to the curb a while ago, so I am good(XBox 360 and a Roku feed my Gamecenter).

Don't feel too bad tho, it seems the NHL is always dropping support for at least one device every year. Over the last couple years, they have dropped support for Samsung devices, as well as LG devices, now Boxee. Pretty soon, you probably will be forced back to the PC only.

Not sure why the NHL is so damn lazy when it comes to supporting devices. MLB.TV is popping up on MANY devices these days, while GC is DISAPPEARING from many devices these days. :\

Hi,

I have a problem that I think Boxee may be the solution for...

I have a HDTV tuner (Samsung H260f) but I don't still have any type of remote for it. I control all my HT stuff via IP using IOS devices.

I can add IR support to my remote control system but it will cost me over $100. Or, I could add a boxee from Walmart for less than $100 and that would have IP control.

I have no idea about Boxee though.... are they any good... are they broken now that they seem to be bought out to shut down?... What are the odds ebay will be flooded with $40 boxee boxes soon?

There is no more Boxee and even when they were around their products didn't quite work as they should.

So no, you should not buy a Boxee anything.

Well,... My walmart has them but I guess they don't work so I'll try to find another solution.

Thanks,

Brian

or how about you buy a $40 learning remote if $100 for an ir remote is too expensive?

Browser issue??

When my wife goes to an "educational" channel, xhamster. When you click on a video and go full screen, with Boxee there is a smaller video of an advertisement flickering in the corner (which on a computer it does not)

Any trick to getting that to work?

Or is the browser just not powerful enough to run that website?

I know about the Boxee skin, I'll stick with the real box.

The Walmart Boxee would be the BoxeeTV, which I won't get, but maybe still good as a Netflix player. I unplugged mine and don't even know if the OTA channel guide is updated still.

I've seen this even on PC browsers, you could check if 'Allow browser popups" is checked or not under System settings.

Hi all,

Just bought myself a new Macbook Air and now I’m struggling with adding a new source on the BB from the Mac.

I have enabled file sharing with both SMB and AFP on the Mac and given both write and read permissions to everyone for a couple of folders that I want to include in my BB’s library.
However when I try to add these folders as a new source on the Boxee Box it asks me for username and password which I don’t have?

Could someone please explain how to make this work (I’m completely new to OSX also).

Thank You!

You didn't state which OSX version you're using - in any case if it's using SMB2, check this out... http://eduo.info/apps/smbup

I updated right away to the newest OSX Mavericks.

Actually i found that link while browsing for an answer but did'nt really get what I should do :P
Was hoping there would be an easier way to fix this as I've never even used a Mac before.

Kind of scared that I might break it within a week of getting the damn thing smile.gif

Sorry, I won't be of much help, I'm not an ' i ' guy either - I've only seen it mentioned that SMBup should fix SMB issues with the newer OSX's

I'm sure someone will chime in here with some help... but from what I understand SMBup may be your best option

Good luck!

When does the Boxee scan for new media? Do you have to tell it to scan, or does it look automatically?

If you define the location of your media as a nice complicated address to a NFS address on a NAS, can you get to that address/location easily - ie: A couple of button presses?

So you can get to the location of a new file manually easily, rather than going through the scanned in library/jukebox approach?

I cant even add the folders as sources to scan to begin with so I cant even browse to the folders manually from the Boxee.
When I try to add the folder as a source it asks me for a username and password and I dont know what to type as I havent even set a password for anything?
