Using LG 55LE8500 Color Settings with AVSHD or Spears and Munsil

I have tried searching but can't find anything on this - apologies if it has been asked before.

My LG 55LE8500 supports two different methods of setting color - 2-point and 10-IRE. It also has an in-built color filters allowing Red, Green and Blue to be viewed independantly (without need for colored glasses/filters).

I have AVSHD and Spears and Munsil Disks - how would I use these discs to:

1. Set color with 2-point mehtod?
2. Set color with 10-IRE method?

I can set Red Contrast, Blue Contrast, Green Contrast, Red Brightness, Green Brightness and Blue Brightness. It also has color management settings - Red Color, Red Tint, Green Color, Green Tint, Blue Color, Blue Tint, Yellow Color, Yellow Tint, Magenta Color Magenta Tint.

I am starting with color Gamut BT709, Color Temp Warm and Gamma 2.2 (these seem to be recommended).

Which patterns should I start with and what do I adjust first?

I have set black level and white where I am pretty happy.

Thanks

The S&M disc is there to help you set the user controls ... contrast brightness color tint sharpness. It cannot help you with grayscale work which is the 2/10 point thing.

you need instrumentation and a software program to work here.

These are user controls easily accessible on the 55LE8500 - are you saying there is nothing I can do with either AVSHD or S&M and on-board color filters?

HD Nation did a segment that shows how to set color and tint. If your TV has a built in blue-mode then it would work like the demonstration from the segment at http://revision3.com/hdnation/calibrationpart3 The same video is also included in the newest AVCHD and HDMV versions added today. I'm not familiar with your TV to comment how well the other color controls might work. Like already commented, 2 & 10 point or the contrast and brightness items sound like grayscale controls.

Greetings

The closest choice would be to fashion a device called an optical comparator that you can use to compare it with the gray patterns on the avs disc.

A home fashioned comparator on the cheap would still cost you $60 for a proper light fixture and $20 for kodak graycards ... and then there is shipping.

I am sorry but I really have no idea what you are saying. Maybe I am naive - and maybe my expectations are wrong.

But I was hoping I could use S&M or AVSHD to make some more detailed color adjustments - for instance the AVSHD disc has 'Flashing Primary Colors' and 'Flashing Color Decoder' - my TV can set a color filter for red, green and blue during set uo - what is not clear is how to use the patterns with all the available color filters on my TV.

Thanks I looked at this - and downloaded the latest version of AVSHD. It explains how to use a Blue Filter- however I can also set a Red or Green filter on the TV - how do I use these when setting up the TV with the AVSHD patterns?

Since you have the new version, look at the Misc. Patterns area in the Patterns Manual download. The "B1 - Flashing Primary Colors" is a custom pattern for looking at how red, green, and blue compare with gray and the secondary colors. You may want to write down the initial values for the additional color and tint controls, but like I commented I'm not familiar with your TV. After looking at B1 you will probably also want to check the other color patterns (A4, A3, and possibly B2).
